The Parkland Suicides

Forums:

Just saw that a 2nd survivor of the Parkland School shootings has committed suicide in less than a week.

These kids seem to be struggling to cope with the routine of their previous lives.  I'm not sure what the answer is to restoring a sense of balance for them, but maybe some type of alternative education/service organization program that helps them cope with their fear and stress, and makes them feel they have something worthwhile to contribute to others and to experience for themselves?

There are no easy answers.

Love to all those who are in pain.

I heard there was an element of survivor guilt involved. Seriously powerful stuff.

New Zealand’s response to the recent massacre there Is so sensible and right on… we need to get rid of these sorts of guns. I know this is the big debate, well fuck the debate we just need to do it.

I'm with you.  Politicians beholden to the gun lobbies need to be voted out.

The reckless pursuit of money and power has left a trail of misery and despair.

We, as a people/nation, can do better.

Not sure this can all be put on Parkland.

On average, adjusted for age, the annual U.S. suicide rate increased 24% between 1999 and 2014, from 10.5 to 13.0 suicides per 100,000 people, the highest rate recorded in 28 years.

By far the number one killer among my friend group - nothing else even comes close.

I saw on the news this morning, that the Father of one of the Sandy Hook victims also took his life.

heartbreaking broken heart

Absolutely terrible.  One thing they’re not reporting on is how they committed suicide.  I’d bet good money that they used a gun.  We are decades overdue for some real gun regulations set at the federal level.  The gun situation in our country is a fucking joke.
