my aunt was a special person and deserving of a poem on her day of rest. From the summer of 2019.
Emerald Light
Heart abundant in love.
Guided by her Lord above.
A radiant smile to illuminate your soul.
A laugh that danced & tripped around the maypole.
Rare was the harsh turn of a phrase,
never one to cast shade,
Nancy’s tone was that of praise,
of the finest God had made.
Anne Catharine Patricia McMonagle,
fortunate to be born on St. Patrick’s Day,
Irish through & through,
and proud to put it on display.
A fan of football & the University of Notre Dame,
Nancy & friends adventured to many a Fightin’ Irish gridiron game.
When summer arrived, we knew where Nancy would be,
Just a short stroll down the beach, towards a pachyderm named Lucy.
Nancy was a daughter, sister, aunt, friend, and one other,
Caring for you, you were loved by another mother.
Your absence may leave our hearts dim and somewhat hollow,
Yet our memories will reflect a soul aglow and a life-light to follow
