Terrible interview, not a single word about his cats or if they really tour with him. It also doesn't mention when I called him Fake Jerry and he got pissed off.
I love to watch John, I was shroomed up talking to Jay Lane at a local show and he walked by saying it was time. I blurted it out and Jay and I got a huge chuckle out of it. He went out and melted it that night.
So I hit a new low, opening my mouth, what the fuck else is new.
That was a good interview. The reporter knew what he was talking about and asked good questions and JK (aka FJ) gave straight up answers without sugar coating things.
I don't know if this proves or disproves JK's point about how he reacted when Weir collapsed. From my perspective JK was non-reactive. JR looked aghast and Phil kept on playing. I was a little slow on the shutter, I missed the initial fall and only started shooting again after my friend poked me and said shoot, Weir is down.
Willow sky, whoa, I walk and wonder why
They say love your brother but you will catch it when you try
Roll you down the line boy, drop you for a loss
Ride out on a cold railroad and nail you to a cross
Now that Dead and Co. are ending, do you see a scenario where there could be more Furthur — or at least more chances for you to play with Bob or Phil?
I don’t know. I wouldn’t be opposed. I don’t know that that’s in the works or not. But I am trying to figure out some sort of project that would be a tribute to Furthur where we could reinhabit the original songs.
a tribute...to a tribute band? is he gonna reinhabit mully gully?
Curious as to what the Fare Thee Well comment is all about. He was caught on camera doing something he shouldn't have been doing? Seems like an odd thing to bring up and then backtrack on the details.

Probably no different from what any DH did when they were out seeing shows and their significant other was home holding down the fort. Tongues wagged. There was no whatever happens on the road stays on the road.
I don't know Andy Greene, but his statement, "started reading hippie writers like Carlos Castaneda and Alan Watts" is very strange. That kind of writing bugs me. Those guys are hippie writers? I don't think so. Did they know that?
Timmy, it wasn't clear to me that it was all of them.
Maybe he meant authors popular with hippies? By that criteria, Herman Hesse, J.R.R. Tolkien, Jack Kerouac, Kurt Vonnegut, Norman Mailer, and Hunter S.Thompson, among others, would be "hippie writers" (they're not).
Apparently, John K apologized and begged Rob Eaton to be let back in DSO after Furthur disbanded but was told to scram. After this 2nd falling out, his behavior became more erratic, and rumors had it he used to sit outside the homes of different DSO members in his Hyundai Sonata eating Subway and chain smoking clove cigarettes.
I agree with you, Rusty. And not because JK's a good musician, but because it doesn't make sense to me that people here are carrying so much enmity about someone as benign as him. Now, if they had the same kind of bitterness toward Putin or some other warmonger it would make sense to me.
Furthur had it's highs and lows but JK certainly wasn't the primary contributor to the lows. In retrospect the band and experience now seems otherworldly in comparison the money train DeadBro cacophony that followed.
I don't get all the negativity towards JK either. I chalk it up to a bit of jealousy. He started DSO and had vision for what it would become so he deserves credit for that and his point about it all falling on his shoulders makes sense. Then to think that Phil and Bob ask him to join their band and he would get play along side two founder members of the GD and creating great music is surreal, how could anyone say no to that. Sure DSO probably felt a bit burned and there may have been some business considerations like who owns the name etc. they had to deal with. But who wouldn't accept the call up to the majors if given the opportunity.
As far as the BW show where he went down, I was there with Tatters, only person to blame is BW. Who knows what Bobby was saying to the others on the stage. He clearly wanted to stay out there.
The coup de grâce was when he fell off the chair, after the crew spent 30 minutes trying to persuade him to sit down. All the while Bobby pushing them away like an angry drunk uncle.
You gotta be pretty twisted-up when even sitting in a chair is considered too vertical. Too bad there wasn't a chaise lounge back stage...it may have saved Ace that evening.

I was surprised to learn that Phil supposedly cannot sleep in a moving vehicle. Yea, that may surely put a damper on touring life.
That aside, Furthur was a good band that I enjoyed seeing and I don't think I ever paid more than $50 to see them either.
