One of those bands I regret missing.  Had a chance to see them with Meat Puppets and  Nirvana in Medford, Oregon in early 1994 on Nirvana's final U.S. tour.  Hadn't seen any of them then (seen Meat Puppets a bunch since).  Was just getting my feet on the ground after moving to Humboldt the previous Fall, and couldn't afford the trip or get away from my new job.  Told my friends who were going that I'd see them next time.  Woops.

We're seeing Gibby in Oakland this Tuesday. Last time we saw him was February 2019 at City Lights. Esau got to meet him and ask questions.

Fucking great live band, if a bit disturbing.

They would show constant videos of terrible violence on a big screen behind them, real clips of people being shot, heads & bodies being smashed, car crashes, plane crashes, etc. I found all that to be distracting, and ultimately tired, but it definitely set a tone.

First time I saw them was on the first Lollapalooza tour in '91. I didn't know anything about them, but they got my attention when the singer began blasting off a shotgun from the stage.

They were very severe and definitely not for everyone, but beyond the shtick they really were a great live rock 'n roll band, and were truly committed to what they were.

I was lucky to see them in the late Eighties in Chicago. We used to have parties at the house that my band lived in. Naperville IL and when we wanted to clear the party out, we would crank up the Buttholes. Great imagery lyrics like "I smoked Elvis Presley's toenails"
