Thanks Zooey for making this link active. I don't mind admitting that I hadn't heard of this divide and conquer strategy until now. I need to look deeper into it, but if true it seems the author has some good insights into solving a seemingly unending struggle and human tragedy.
This is why Netanyahu should be tried and then exiled to live out his days in Gaza. He has for the last 20 years pursued a policy of strengthening ties with the Sunni Arab world while giving nothing to the Palestinians all the while giving a huge middle finger to the American left. October 7th is 100% the results of his policies. I really can't believe that Israel lets him continue to represent them in the media.
Fucking guy "won" with a whopping 23% of the votes. He chose to court the religious right parties to form his coalition government. Those parties come in 2 forms:
1. The ultra-orthodox, who demand tons of money from the State, but give nothing back. Their government funded schools are just Torah schools that barely teach real subjects. They demand sabbath laws, and also do not have to serve in the military.
2. The militaristic and hard-line orthodox. The kids go to military schools and hold high positions in the military. These are the douchebags that you hear calling all Palestinians "animals," and shit like that.
Bibi is getting absolutely roasted by Israeli media for being asleep at the the wheel on October 7. He is as reviled almost as much as Hamas is. Recently polling has him with about a 4% approval rating and over 90% of Israelies say he is at least partially responsible for what happened.
