I tell ya, I was already thinking about dressing like her for Halloween. Will be pretty funny to see a person of color imitating her moves. I mean, it's all fair game at this point.
>Rachael “Raygun” Gunn is the Bill “Bojangles” Robinson of Olympic breakdancing.
Before she became the oldest dancer in the Olympics’ first-ever breaking competition, the 36-year-old b-girl was formally trained in white dances, including ballroom and ballet. With moves like the Caucasian kangaroo, the epileptic slide and — my favorite — the stupid shuffle, Raygun managed to befuddle Black Twitter and merge traditional breakdancing and the Outback Steakhouse version of b-boying. Her performance wasn’t disrespectful or offensive as much as it was cringe. Watching her caucastic convulsions earn zero points in the Olympics was like listening to an Iggy Azalea freestyle or watching a local weather reporter “bust a move.”..
...Raygun and her fellow breakdancers are as hip-hop as Vanilla Ice or Post Malone. They are classically trained dancers competing for medals as part of a show. They were simply mimicking something Black people used to do. They were pre-Bojangles buck dancers. They are masters of one small component of a culture that Blackness birthed. But their deficiencies have nothing to do with their ethnicity, nationality or cultural background. It has everything to do with ours...
Part of the challenge I had with the event was that it wasn't a choreographed routine that was well thought through. (sounds weird coming from a deadhead) Asking people to react to music live in these events leaves too much up to chance and what the DJ decides to play. The swimming, floor routines, and other events that had an artful quality to it are perfected over years but trying to make this in the moment xfactor happen just feel flat.
The second paragraph above is on point. Although I might take it one step further. It would be great if they were truly mimicking that talent but instead are underwhelming in their attempts. Raygun was just the lowest rung of the bar.

SNL is gonna have fun with this one
And thanks for the link - Raygun's 'breaking' isn't much different than the others, it's the kangaroo hop that sets her apart.
And while it's possible she's mocking the sport, I don't think the 'sport' needs any help in that department

Martin Short's classic synchronized swimming skit comes to mind
although men are now permitted to be part of the women's artistic swimming teams, none were present in this Olympics
