My happy place. Love the land.

WHat a hell hole. For top dollar too -

Yep, fully agree :)

you mean DisneyLINE in CARafornia? <<<

excellent.

Some of you may remember that I first went to Disneyland when I was six, the year it opened. The other time I went I was 19 (1968) and it was to experience it on acid. It was fun but I had a better time when I was six. I didn't ever want to  go back.

Never been.

No interest.

I'd rather see real stuff.

It was a very special place when I was a young kid. We would go down and stay with relatives and go every yr. As I grew up it was more of a pain waiting in lines and such. Then they priced it out of contention. Haven't been in probably 55 yrs.

remember when you could smoke?

place was a giant ash tray.

Trying to go on my 50th next year.

It's emblematic of what's wrong with the United States

Was not a big fan, took the kids once to all the parks, they enjoyed it.

Fighting with Desantis and the extreme right, Respect

Surfdead is wise. I moved to SoCal in 1997, and have never been to Disneyland, which is a couple of hours south of me. I'd rather drive north a couple of hours and be in the Sierras.

While Desanctamonious is off his rocker and deserves everything he gets, there's still something about Disney's RCID that rubs me the wrong way in terms of a municipal entity being relinquished to a corporate interest.

Reedy Creek as much as I hated it, was a signed deal with the State, Disney just has better lawyers than the state, and still does. Have you seen the size of those bass on Disney Grounds? Definitely something in the water

Desantis and his buddies just robbed UF of a ton of money.

go gators!

Grew up two hours from Disney World and my friends and I would go down there every other month, rent locker 666, turn it into a wet bar, and ride the rides all day.  If you wait until the Mainstreet Electrical Parade, all the crowds are down there and you can ride the popular rides like Space Mountain and Pirates of the Caribbean over and over with zero lines.

Dropped acid there during the Orlando GD run in 1991.   Was on the It's a Small World ride just as it was kicking in and the ride broke down, leaving me stuck surrounded by all this animatronic weirdness singing the same line over and over again.

As much as Desantis ought never be near the levers of power, the RCID should be dismantled immediately IM.  Governments have done lots of things that have been undone, and many that should be.  This is one of them.

While it might not necessarily be easy to replicate it moving forward, the potential of it being leveraged as a precedent still exists.  Corporate interests ought have no official standing in the structure of our government, IMO.

From 84 to 90 we found how to sneak into Disneyworld for free. 10-20 of us would go up on a weekend and take insane amounts of acid. Megadose shit. Because we were flying so high we were not hungry and would not succumb to their terrorist food prices. Possible an ice cream bar at dark.

There were so many fun rides and shows that I cannot even list them all. I am also sure a handful of employees that were on to us.

Mr Toads wild ride was renamed Mr Toads wild line. Zig zagging past the same people 12x before going on said ride while peaking.....Oh My

Can't wait to see Tiana's Bayou Adventure.

1975 Disneyworld - Senior year high school. Stopped there while driving through Florida with a high school buddy on winter break. Parked in Dopey. Pretty sure we split some purple barrels. Smoked a joint on the monorail thinking we were being discrete and there was some guy in some kind of mini booth up there in the air as we rounded a pole. They stopped the ride and busted us but didn't call the cops because we pleaded with them it was XMas day. Never went back.

1971? Disneyland - Junior high. Summer. Was there with a teen group touring across the States. We all got kicked out for wearing jeans and one couple was caught kissing. Turns out we had been shoplifting little souvenirs too but they didn't catch us for that. Never went back.

correction to story above, now that I remember: they wouldn't let us in with jeans and we had to change before we went in. When the teenage couple in our group got caught lap-sitting and making out, we all had to leave. Stolen goods were revealed later.

I don't think Disney could of done some of the cool stuff without having a Reedy Creek. The whole city underneath the Magic Kingdom would of never happened if government was involved. The engineering it must of took. The aqua fir is right there and the water table is probably only 8-12 ft. Down. I am sure there must be all kinds of pumps keepin the water from the tunnels. It is also true that they had rights to divert the water from possibly 3 counties in doing whatever it is has to be done to keep,it like that. I have seen the lakes in lake county run so low that boats were stuck on their lifts with no water underneath them for extended periods of time. I actually hated Disney more for keeping competing entertainment out of Orlando for ages.

It's the Unhappiest  Place on Earth

I remember the No Long Hair Days

Sea World had that too

In early 80's my buddy was busted in his car, in the parking, lot for smoking

Kicked out of both DW and DL. Alan!  That gets you a Lil' Outlaw trophy.

Dave, I was always more of a Felix the Cat tye guy.  Especially after Mickey became a narc.

Slacker, will you wear your mouse ears for your 50th?

Mine are glow in the dark tie dye but I might get some new light up ears that blink to the music.

Grew up with no desire to go there,

As Katrina evacuees we went to Disneyland for a day in late October 2005

Gov't Mule was playing that night in Anaheim which influenced our decision to go

No lines and had a blast.

Before Mule we had dinner in Downtown Disney on the balcony of a New Orleans themed restaurant. (got a discount by providing our  Nola id's).

Across the way was the concert venue and the marquee let us know DSO was playing the next night. So we bought tickets.

At the Mule show we somehow met Rob Koritz and when he heard our story said sell your tickets we'd be on the list.

Spent and extra day in the park with no lines. Like someone earlier said: Doing laps on Magic Mountain

DSO was great. Went to Vegoose next.....

For a family of four, the cost of a one-week trip to Disney can range from $6,463 to $15,559, not including flights or souvenirs, according to an analysis by NerdWallet, a personal finance site. Many families can’t afford the trip at all. Last week, Disney reported softening demand for its theme parks because families, after years of dealing with high inflation, have less money to spend on amusement.

Sounds like a great run Joy.

A week would probably run us about two grand.

first time my wife ( who'd been to Disney World @ least 300 x as a kid growing up in Fla ) took me, in like '90 or '91 i dropped a tab of some fresh shit and didn't tell her...years later we are going thru pics of that day we found and she says :   " you seemed pretty happy that day but Jesus look at how much you're sweating ". that is when i fessed up and then she says " THATS WHY you went on Space mountain like 5x in a row !! "....devil
