Nelson at the Fairfax Pavilion Nov 8 & 9

Shecky?

this is interesting

long over due...

Sless would be my preferred Cage-Garcia

Shecky. lulz.

Death and Destruction

kind of a sleeper nerps tune, in my opinion one of their very best

buddy just peeling layer after layer

I'm surprised Michael Falzarano isn't involved and instead there's a true lead guitar in the group, and is Jackie going to play keys or will there be three guitars and pedal steel at times?

I always liked the late era NRPS with Falzarano. A good, layered sound that allowed Cage to really be the ripping lead instrument.

This one's a bit far for me these days, and the Sweetwater chat level will be going strong I'm sure, but this will likely be a good show.

Much closer to home for me, I will check out the 11/8 show....

I'll be there on the 9th.  Robby's birthday.

ME Too !! yes

Please, it's Marmasheck.

>> Please, it's Marmasheck.

Ooooh, that's a good one.

Where do you by tickets for this? I looked at both sites.

Thanks. I'm considering.

Recommend a hotel , please. Flights are very affordable.

Would be great if you came out Jaz.  Someone else that lives closer would be more help with the hotel recommendation.

These are going to be great shows!  Many tunes not heard in many yrs.  With Jackie and Garret, they will be phenomenal shows. And Nelson is healthier than he has been in a long time.

I am going to see Todd Snider on the 7th, so I will not be there on the 8th but will be for sure on the 9th. (getting too old for 3 shows in a row.  Don't usually do 2 even).

There is a Marriott in downtown San Rafael that costs about $200 a night with taxes and is only a few miles away.Alternatively there is the San Anselo Inn, a small ;little boutique place that costs about the same.

San Anselmo Inn, right Woz?

LOL, yes! Another Woz typo!

The 2 nights will feature some 40-45 songs with no repeats on Sunday, so if it works for you, plan on seeing both shows. They will be epic!

Judit, is there a way to change the title to read Fairfax Pavilion?

... and it's now the 8th and 9th.

Have fun, y'all

Thanks Judit!

Woz, thanks for the hotel recs. I'm going to make this. Both shows. Staying at the Mariot you suggested. Mark , it's about time I met you. Hope to hang with some zoners. I'm slightly acquainted with Jerry the drummer.

Looking forward.yes

I meant woz. Thanks for the hotel rec. I have never been to San Rafael.

Well except that one time back in the 80s when we crossed the bridge then turned around.

Thanks, Judit.

You're welcome! If the weather is nice make sure to go up to the roof bar/restaurant and take in the sunset before heading to Fairfax.

Well except that one time back in the 80s when we crossed the bridge then turned around.

LOLOL!

I just picked up tickets for the 8th. Psyched

See you there the 8th Woz. Smiles devil

Why not both nights???  My nephew and I are going both nights.  Reconsider.

Will be great to finally meet you Jaz.

Looking forward to this. Gonna be great. And  is shaping up to be a nice Zoner gathering.

Never been in this venue, so the first night pick a place to meet up the second night, OK?

Why not both nights???

I'm taking my son to the 49ers game on Sunday 11/9. I may pop into the show if we don't get home too late.

Will do , Mark.

I did a little Googling. Nave's Bar and Grill looks like a cool dive bar with a patio. 486.5 feet from the venue.

>>>Never been in this venue<<<

Didn't the David Nelson Band play one or two shows there once? The place and location look very familiar to me. I recollect that there was a birthday celebration, possibly a zoners, at the show I went to.

Or is it possible Mark that you actually MISSED a DNB show???

Naaah.

Either I'm mistaken or Mark isn't remembering.

Could be either. Or both.

I did not miss a show in Cal or Oregon for many yrs (2005 - @2020?), but I don't remember a show there. Maybe I will when I get there.

DNB played the Fairfax Pavillion in 2014. Nave's is OK, but if you just want beer, Gestalt Haus has a huge selection of beers and make great  brats ($9) and sandwiches (reubens etc)  just a few doors up from Nave's. That's my go too place.

the sound in the  Pavilion is horrendous....

Ha

harvest shows

Mara's tye-dye bday cake!

It poured that nite

someone left the cake out in the rain>rainmaker

we hope to make a show

I do remember her birthday/cake, but not the venue. Prolly will when I get there.

It's an old school barn/gym type building.up on a hill. Lots of wood and metal which is why the sound can be challenging.

Garcia played there (with Phil on bass) in 1981.

Video message from David on Insta! It should work even if you don't have an account.

lots of kimock shows...

Mark , I'll tell you the story about crossing the bridge into San Rafael then turning around when I see you. . It involves large amounts of lsd.

those kinds of stories always do...

Have fun, jaz!  Glad to read your heading out west.  Yall are lucky to meet jaz, he's a great guy!

Thanks, Joe. I appreciate that. Always a blast to see you.

I saw that fish. a Nelson/Del collab would be sweet. hope they do it!

We found out today we're getting a new roof on the day I'm flying out. I'm going to bolt a day early.

Can someone recommend a hotel in San Francisco for 24 hours in the city. I'm not familiar and will most likely just do a lot of walking and site seeing.

Thanks in advance.

So, you're still going to the shows, right?

Wasn't Nave's Phil's hangout during the "Heinekin years", and where he met Jill?

Absolutely, Mark.  Just arriving a day earlier.

Wasn't Nave's Phil's hangout during the "Heinekin years", and where he met Jill?

Yes, it was Phil's hangout during especially during the hiatus when he lived in Fairfax. He met Jill at an old diner called the Half Day Cafe. They had great breakfast.....

Can someone recommend a hotel in San Francisco for 24 hours in the city.

Jazfish, there are a zillion hotels, what part of the city o you want to stay in?

Got to walk the haight during the day and I'd like a safe walkable area in the evening with some cool friendly dive bars. I'm not sure what district.

Woz, thanks for you help.

Just saw Del a couple of nights ago. 86 and sounding good. He can forget some words now and then but once he gets singing... it's like "essence of bluegrass."

We saw hin in York, PA and it turns out the McCourys are from York County, so it was a homecoming of sorts. He even brought his brother out to play a number, so at one point there were 5 McCourys out there -- sons Rob (banjo) and Ronnie (mandolin), brother Jerry, Del, and grandson Heaven on guitar.

If you prefer Boutiques, there is a cool place called the Inn at Union Square. As you can tell by the name, it's right off of Union Square. You'll have to Uber to the Haight, but the upshot of this location is at night you can easily walk to North Beach which is where you will find a plethora of old school SF bars like the Saloon, Grant and Green, Gino and Carlo's and lots of Italian Food. It's also close to China Town which has amazing (mostly Hunan style) Chinese Food. You can also easily walk or take the cable car down California to the Embarcadero where you take in some amazing views of the SF Bay Bridge, the Golden Gat Alcatraz etc.. My Father in law stayed there once some years ago and it was nice inside and still gets 4.5 stars and is fairly priced. Friday night North Beach should be hopping with a blues band in the Saloon at 1232 Grant street and if you want an authentic SF dive bar, that's your place. It survived the 1906 Quake and I believe it remains the oldest and longest operating bar in SF. I also had the privilege of seeing John Cipollina, Nick Gravenites, Barry Melton and others perform there countless times way back when.....

IMO, if you have just one day, the above is a solid program.

Jaz, being landlocked, if you want to be close to the ocean (the only SF hotel this close), try the Seal Rock Inn. However, it is on the very edge of the City BUT there is good, safe public transportation to the Haight and downtown and many restaurants and bars in the Richmond district -- you are on a couple of major bus-lines. Great if you like scenery and being away from traffic.  Close to the GG Bridge for easy access to Marin.

I thought of that too Alan, but as you point it is located (literally) at Land's end. Staying downtown Jaz can walk to North Beach, China Town etc. The choices for going out at night in the Avenues are limited, but there is always Uber. And I agree, Seal Rovk is a cool hotel.

Thanks Wos and Alan. I booked the Inn. You have been extremely helpful.  I locked in.

Looking forward. Let's have some big time fun!

I figure you aren't renting a ca you can take BART from SFO right to downtown. Stop is Union Square/Market Street. Leaves you about 4 blocks from the Inn at Union Square.

Love it when a plan comes together.

^Yeah, Woz has good advice....do this >  "...old school SF bars like the Saloon, Grant and Green".....you might run into some decent blues...

(Speaking of which I recently saw this: "Harvey Mandel—better known as “The Snake” and revered as the Sustain King—returns to the Bay Area on Thursday, November 14 for an intimate night of music at Biscuits & Blues, San Francisco.")

Not my favorite venue (Biscuits & Blues) but I will 100% be there - been a long time since I've seen the Snake rip it up. Got Patti Smith the night before at the Masonic.

See ya'll there.  Thanks for tips Woz.
