OITNB vs Wentworth

I admit, I'm a Netflix junkie and binge watch more than I should (I guess that's better than binge eating, right? ;-) ).. Anyway, I was hooked on Orange is the New Black for a while and when I binged through a season 2 summers ago, I was looking for something else to watch. A friend recommended Wentworth. It is an Austrailian verson of OITNB but much darker and 10 times better. They just released the newest season (5) on Netflix and I just finished this morning. Unlike OITNB (which I can't even sit through this season), this show gets better each season.

Anywho, no real reason for this thread other than a Saturday morning wake and bake followed by finishing the last (leaving my jaw wide open) episode..

Great thread - I was going to start a very similar one because we just started season 2 of Wentworth. I'm totally hooked.

On the face, Wentworth is like OITNB, but that's really as far as it goes. It's much more like Oz. OITNB is pretty soft.

The cool thing about Wentworth is that there are no good guys and bad guys. Everyone is fucked up and does shitty things, guards and prisoners alike. For instance, when the new Governor came in at the beginning of season 2, she used exactly the same tactics to control people as did Jax and Frankie. Get dirt on people and hold it over them, sell favors, etc.

I'm almost ready for it to storm all day so I can binge watch the rest of the season.

Oh just wait!! It gets soooo good! You are right - everyone is fucked up and you find yourself rooting for the most messed up shit.. It's one of those rare shows where the story line truly gets better and better..

Everyone is fucked up....thats why i like Shameless so much....but, i only watched a lil over one season so far....(reminds me so much of my family...lol)...

 

Ill have to check out wentworth...i only made it about 3 episodes into orange

To my liking, Wentworth is the best show on TV, by miles. The acting and writing are just outstanding. It's truly "binge-worthy." You don't see anything coming.

Fergusen may be the most deranged character ever dreamed up and acted.
