Tony Levin, as always, has been amazing playing 4 & 6 string bass & 'Stick" on the current King Crimson Tour, and he has always blown my mind when seeing him iin the past with Peter Gabriel. He has played on something like 500 albums.
Last night, my Co-producer Stu Robins Aired an insightful Interview with Tony Levin on WBAI's 'Morning Dew'. Tune in to hear it, along with some great musical selections from Tony's varied and eclectic career.

I have met Tony on 2 separate occasions, and he has been very friendly in conversation. We shared parenting stories like we were just hanging out at a play date.
Oh, and his musicianship is outstanding!

Tony Levin is awesome.
Tony Levin is awesome. Unfortunately, I have only seen him once, with King Crimson, in Rochester, NY, November 1995. He is a monster bass player who ranks up there with Phil Lesh, Jack Casady, and Bill Sheehan, imo. He and Adrian Belew made such cool scary dinosaur blasts, my liquid mind was shattered into shards of glass and melted into pools of heat. I shook in my seat, hands crushing the armrests, and became the dinosaur. Thank you, Tony and Adrian, and of course Mr. Fripp. Marke provided the electric iced tea, and his brother Brian provided the tickets, if I remember correctly: second row in the middle of the loge at the Auditorium Theater.
Of course Tony went to music school at Eastman in Rochester, and I remember that he did something with some of the current students before the show. From what I hear, he's super generous with his time, and a great guy.
I did hear him live once more, actually, the year before at Woodstock. Although I was side stage for Peter Gabriel's set, and could see nothing of it, I could hear the show perfectly, and remember Tony's bass waves reaching me through the mud, as did Flea's bass waves the set just before. I kinda slept through some of it, drifting in and out of waking consciousness - though I was never fully asleep. RrG was somewhere around helping people. I didn't know her then, and don't think we came into contact, but who knows. She keeps telling me the name of the foot shit problem I had, and I always forget. But, no matter the name of the foot shit, I'm sure those bass waves helped. Thanks again, Tony Levin, and of course to all the medical personnel handing out blankets and helping out all the wounded, the hungry, and the tentless. Cheers!
