there are always tempting bands, but the high sierra lineup is always a bit to lukewarm to inspire me to make the trip. bummed i never caught that darkwave project with medeski a year or two ago. would have liked to see lineups go more in that direction...experimental party jazz.
after seeing SCI twice i have decided ill only go if its free and close - in the grand scheme of things they are a shitty band but they can be pretty fun to dance to.
SCI strikes me as a 3rd rate Phish, with similar guitar tones and grooves, but kind of empty.
They are apparently also a bunch of prima donnas behind the scenes. So demanding, that the promoter at Element Fest in BC last year had to have 2 radios on hand - one for SCI, and one for everything else. Sheesh.
If it wasn't so freaking hot, I'd go to that fest. Been a couple times and had fun, but spent extra money getting a pool pass to hang at the public pool in Quincy basically all day. Too hot, man.
Redneck go to the feather river and it's ice cold water fuck that nasty ass pool. Short ride maybe 5 minutes. Beach near camp Oakland is popular with high sierra peeps. Rope swing in the lagoon area to. Will post pics of river and lagoon tomorrow it's a beautiful place. A game changer for me when attending HSMF
