ames Hetfield may be out touring the world with Metallica, but Sammy Hagar has found another capable partner to co-host his fifth annual Acoustic-4-A-Cure benefit concert. Fellow Marin resident and former Grateful Dead member Bob Weir is set to step in for the all-star show, which is scheduled to take place on May 15 at the Fillmore.

Blues icon Taj Mahal, guitarist Joe Satriani, Red Hot Chili Peppersdrummer Chad Smith, former Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony, REO Speedwagon vocalist Kevin Cronin, Eddie Money and guitarist Vic Johnson are also be on the bill for the show that supports the Pediatric Cancer Program at UCSF’s Benioff Children’s Hospital.

The night will double as a 75th birthday celebration for Mahal.

“I was a fan of Taj Mahal long before I had a record deal in Montrose 1973,” said Hagar in a statement. “He’s become a dear friend over the years and without a doubt, is one of the few living blues legend left on this planet.”
