2020 Democratic Primary

Forums:

They are off to the races with Kamala Harris, Jay Inslee, Julian Castro, and Tulsi Gabbard making it official (or basically official).

My current prediction is that the Dems will go with everyone's favorite old white dude, Joe Biden, with the others vying for cabinet positions (Harris for AG, Inslee for EPA chief, etc,).

Dunno if she's official yet, but Warren is def. running. She's out there making speeches and appearances.

Warren has been official for at least a week or so.  She has a big war chest and large, well organized campaign.  Don't see her doing well though.  Her ship sailed in 2016 and she pretty much shot herself in the foot by kicking off her 2020 run with that stupid DNA stunt.

What Pdx ken said^^^^

I am stoked to vote for Tulsi. The big ? is will Sanders be her running mate, or endorse her and her running mate. If she and Warren teamed up, and Sanders endorsed them, they'd absolutely destroy the competition together. The pantsuits and Bernie Bros would pretty much have to team up with Sanders endorsing that particular ticket. Without Gabbard, Warren's toast, otoh Gabbard could still tap Turner, Merkley, or any number of progressive running mates and still kill it. Let's hope some forces for good join up.

>>>>My current prediction is that the Dems will go with everyone's favorite old white dude, Joe Biden

His family chose old white man over Hillary.

TRUMP IS BEYOND BURNT TOAST comet o papa

I've got the a - I got the apolitical blues
Apolitical blues -- the meanest blues of all
I don't care if it's the unholy four, John Wayne and Dorothy Lamour
I just don't wanna talk to him now

Who gives a shit who the Finnegan family from Pennsylvania voted for...my favorite old white man is and always will be...Bernie Sanders..

“We live in a difficult and dangerous world, and there are no easy or magical solutions…America must defend freedom at home and abroad, but we must seek diplomatic solutions before resorting to military action. While force must always be an option, war must be a last resort, not the first option.

As a member of Congress, I have supported the use of force only when it was a last resort and America’s vital interests were at stake. I opposed the first Gulf War, as did many other Members of Congress, because I believed that there was a way to achieve our goals without bloodshed, through sanctions and concerted diplomatic action. I supported the use of force to stop the ethnic cleansing in the Balkans. And, in the wake of the attacks on September 11, 2001, I supported the use of force in Afghanistan to hunt down the terrorists who attacked us. I regret that President Bush did not use that authority properly, and that American combat troops remained there too long. I voted against the war in Iraq, and knew it was the right vote then, and most people recognize it was the right vote today. The only mission President Bush and his neo-conservative friends accomplished was to destabilize an entire region, and create the environment for al-Qaeda and ISIS to flourish.

While we must be relentless in combating terrorists who would do us harm, we cannot and should not be policeman of the world, nor bear the burden of fighting terrorism alone. The United States should be part of an international coalition, led and sustained by nations in the region that have the means to protect themselves. That is the only way to defeat ISIS and to begin the process of creating the conditions for a lasting peace in the region.”

– Sen. Bernie Sanders

This is what scares me about the Demos.

They're good at snatching defeat from the jaws of victory as they try to please the various factions under the tent. Let's hope it doesn't turn into a circular firing squad.

While old, Biden's reputation is pretty good and his foreign policy acumen could be seen as essential to repairing our relationships around the world.

Dise, it will be interesting to see if the the comments Tulsi made years ago that were just rehashed will doom her with the demos.

https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/tulsi-gabbard-homophobic-remarks_us...

From the story -

In one instance in February 2004, Gabbard, at the time a 22-year-old state representative, was testifying against a bill aimed at legalizing same-sex civil unions.

“To try to act as if there is a difference between ‘civil unions’ and same-sex marriage is dishonest, cowardly and extremely disrespectful to the people of Hawaii,” she said. “As Democrats, we should be representing the views of the people, not a small number of homosexual extremists.”

Six months later, Gabbard spoke more candidly while replying to an email originally sent to her father, Mike Gabbard, who was a Republican city councilman in Honolulu running for Congress.

“I smell a skunk,” Gabbard told Honolulu Magazine. She was responding to an email that was originally addressed to her father asking about his ties to the leader of a Hare Krishna movement in Hawaii, according to the magazine.

“It’s clear to me that you’re acting as a conduit for The Honolulu Weekly and other homosexual extremist supporters of Ed Case [Mike Gabbard’s opponent],” she wrote.

Sanders is pure baggage, I hope he stays far away from the campaign.

If those are the only candidates the send have this shit is gonna be a fucking landslide. Biden is only person who can take down trump. These no name ass motherfuckers can’t beat trump.

>If she and Warren teamed up, and Sanders endorsed them, they'd absolutely destroy the competition together. <

Warren destroyed her credibility.  She has no shot in the general election.

>This is what scares me about the Demos.

... it will be interesting to see if the the comments Tulsi made years ago that were just rehashed will doom her with the demos<

Yep, the progressive litmus test will leave many candidates hamstrung.  Similar to what the tea party did with Republicans.

>>> Dise, it will be interesting to see if the the comments Tulsi made years ago that were just rehashed will doom her with the demos.<<<

Tulsi Gabbard's is an Assad apologist and literally known as "Putin's Congresswoman".

>>> Sanders is pure baggage, I hope he stays far away from the campaign. <<<

Bernie Sanders is connected to Tad Devine, if you don't know who Tad Devine is...

I suggest you look him up before you make your decision.

Here's just a lil bit about Tad Devine, he was Bernie Sanders campaign manager who was a former business partner of Paul Manafort

in the Ukraine and helped Pro- Putin Victor Yanukovych get elected as President.

Viktor Fedorovych Yanukovych (Ukrainian: Ві́ктор Фе́дорович Януко́вич, listen (help·info); born 9 July 1950) is a Ukrainian politician who was elected as the fourth President of Ukraine on 7 February 2010.[5] He served as President from February 2010 until his removal from power in February 2014 as a result of the 2014 Ukrainian revolution. He is currently in exile in Russia and wanted by Ukraine for high treason.[6]

I think all we can say for sure at this point is that the primary will be a great time to be on the Zone

If you think that comments from Tulsi Gabbard in 2004 aren't enough and want to keep your head buried in the sand?

Don't bother reading any further...

Tulsi Gabbard is the Tom Cotton of Jill Steins.

She's been endorsed/praised by:

David Duke

Richard Spencer

Steve Bannon

>>>>>>>Tulsi Gabbard's is an Assad apologist and literally known as "Putin's Congresswoman”

She’s terrible but she is not known as “Putin’s Congresswoman”.

Maybe you’re thinking of Dana Roarbacher in drag.

>>> She’s terrible but she is not known as “Putin’s Congresswoman"

You're right about Roarbacher.

Tulsi Gabbard, Slammed for Backing Assad in Syria, Says She'll Run for U.S. President in 2020

lol.

Timmy who OWNS Assad?

>>>> literally known as "Putin's Congresswoman".

"literally" not known as "putin's congresswoman"

if everyone's so concerned about putin & russia, why in god's name was obama re-elected in 2012? because he could have more flexibility to "negotiate" w/russia? thought that was a bad thing? no?

You are literally the only person to call her Putin’s Congresswoman.  Deflect all you want it doesn’t change reality.  I agree she’s terrible but am just trying to keep the conversation fact based.  Apparently that’s not important to you.  You said she’s “literally known as "Putin's Congresswoman””.  Cite one person besides yourself who has called her Putin’s Congresswoman.

Lol.

You got hung up on the word "literaly".

lit·er·al·ly

/ˈlidərəlē,ˈlitrəlē/

adverb

in a literal manner or sense; exactly.

"the driver took it literally when asked to go straight across the traffic circle"

synonyms:verbatim, word for word, line for line, letter for letter, to the letter; More

INFORMAL

used for emphasis or to express strong feeling while not being literally true.

"I was literally blown away by the response I got"

Lol. Literally.

She literaly is Putin's Congresswoman.

Hey more deflection.  Guess Google didn’t turn up anyone calling her Putin’s Congresswoman huh?  Seriously, one person besides you (or your wife) that has called her that.  I mean if that’s what she’s known as it should be super easy.

Fuck people who use that informal use of literally.

They sound dumb

Literally dumb.

<TOD furiously googling search terms Gabbard Putin Congresswoman>

"Honey! Those fascists on the zone are making me ang-ray again!"

"That's great, Todd. Just great."

>>> You are literally the only person to call her Putin’s Congresswoman.  Deflect all you want it doesn’t change reality.

>>>  Hey more deflection.  Guess Google didn’t turn up anyone calling her Putin’s Congresswoman huh?  Seriously, one person besides you (or your wife) that has called her that.  I mean if that’s what she’s known as it should be super easy.

Does this literal nobody count?

IMG_1452.PNG

He called her Putin’s favorite Congresswoman not Putin’s Congresswoman as you alleged she’s known.  So no that doesn’t count.  Keep searching TOD.  Maybe check Hannitys Twitter feed next.

>>>Literally dumb

it's literally the opposite of what the word means.

i have a coworker who does it all the time.

use a different word for emphasis, Kelly!

Fucking Kelly.

Timmy an lil Mark, take a lap.

Hope you learned something about Tulsi Gabbard.

I learned that she’s not known as Putin’s Congresswoman.

She is not known as Putin's Congresswoman.

Literally.

Figuratively, this thread is a trainwreck.

Favorite.

You guys get it, for sure.

Good thing you didn't miss the forest for the trees.

Good job!

My understanding is that TOD is figuratively on very thin ice with the administrators of vivalazone.

Stay on topic Cuckcakes.

Did you learn something about Tulsi Gabbard today?

No, TOD. We on the Junior Admin tag your posts with "uninformed," "emasculated," and "slightly unhinged," so, that's gonna be a big negative.

Did you learn something today about how to be more accurate when using the word "literally?"

Shadow admin....

Lol.

The “L” in lol should not be capitalized.  Literally.

You never answered my question Timmy, who owns Assad?

Where is Assad located on your conspiracy board, TOD?

In the middle, or towards the top?

I’m not here to answer your stupid questions.  I’m in agreement that she’s a terrible choice for president who’s global views do somewhat align with pro Russian movements.  But she is not known as Putin’s congresswoman.

It’s frustrating because I’m on your side in this argument till you start saying bullshit like “she’s known as Putin’s Congresswoman”.  It makes your factual statements harder to accept and your argumentative tone is off putting, cheapens the discussion, and makes it hard to take you serious.

Literally.

Well, I googled Putin's Congresswoman and this came up:

Democratic Rep. Tulsi Gabbard Is Running for President in 2020 ...https://www.rollingstone.com/politics/politics.../tulsi-gabbard-presiden... day ago - Democratic Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard Is Running for President in ... approach to foreign policy and praise Russian leader Vladimir Putin.

Yeah, like I said she has views that are considered pro Russian but nobody calls her Putin’s Congresswoman.  Dana Rohbacher was known as Putin’s Congressman but try as TOD might it doesn’t change anything about Tulsi Gabbard.

>>> It’s frustrating because I’m on your side in this argument till you start saying bullshit like “she’s known as Putin’s Congresswoman”.  It makes your factual statements harder to accept and your argumentative tone is off putting, cheapens the discussion, and makes it hard to take you serious

Deal breaker huh,

That was a great point Timmy, that was the same argument that was being made about Trump/Russia during the 2016 campaign.

Shoot the messenger for being off putting all the while missing the forest for the trees.

Look, I don't give a shit if we are cool with one another ever.

Im gonna say what I'm gonna say.

Maybe you should get past your delicate sensibilities?!

TOD, you’re Trump in this situation.  Telling lies and half truths.  I’m not offended.  I’m just right.

What candidate is going to increase housing for the working class in the communities that they work in?

I just received my second email from a concerned zoner regarding TOD making them feel unwelcome. I don't come around her much, but want to let the group know that you aren't the only ones if you feel that way.

TOD is literally known as the Thom of the left.

^What candidate is going to increase housing for the working class in the communities that they work in?

probably have a better shot of Gavin Newsom doing something about it.

Kamala Harris for president!

>>>>TOD is literally known as the Thom of the left

THOD

I wonder how many times THOD had to remind his wife that beating ass isn’t the kynd heady way today?

Thod, man, literally means it's real, or by the letter, if you will. It never means figuratively. Only idiots who have no idea what the word means use it to mean the opposite. Learn your language if you don't want to be seen as an idiot.

>>> Thod, man, literally means it's real, or by the letter, if you will. It never means figuratively. Only idiots who have no idea what the word means use it to mean the opposite. Learn your language if you don't want to be seen as an idiot.

Yeah, people who get hung up on a word while missing the point completely...

Just want to be noticed.

Thanks Flop, everything is much clearer now.

>>> Kamala Harris for president!

Kamala definitely has a bright future.

I just got an alert on my phone that there was an uninformed, emasculated, and slightly unhinged post made in this thread within the last thirty minutes.

>>>>>Yeah, people who get hung up on a word while missing the point completely...

Yeah, that can happen if you use the wrong word.

Tripling down doesn’t seem to be going well for THOD.

I believe that surf.

Obviously Timmy brought that up because he's frustrated and cares.

"One word to rule them all"

>>>>>>Obviously Timmy brought that up because he's frustrated and cares.

Derp.  It was your first post this morning.  You brought it up again, not me. I think you might be projecting.  Did you talk about it with your wife?

Can you demonstrate some humility and admit you were wrong here, THOD?

>>> Derp.  It was your first post this morning.  You brought it up again, not me. I think you might be projecting.  Did you talk about it with your wife?

Look Tim, first post this am? Thanks for noticing...

Was responding to the Flop across the pond did you notice that?

You feel real secure behind the black screen talking about my wife, almost obsessively.

Keep talking shit.

Based on this nearly three day long ass-eating exhibition, I'm starting to think Thod didn't push back that hard against his wife's demands, after all.

Unfortunately I don't think the left can stop eating itself and I fear Trump has a pretty easy win in '20.

>>> Unfortunately I don't think the left can stop eating itself and I fear Trump has a pretty easy win in '20 <<<

Assuming he'll make it that long.

I hope they weed all the "don't have a chance" candidates out as soon as possible,

so all the ideas on today's issues are on the table early.

>>>Assuming he'll make it that long.

He'll make it.  He's made it this far despite everything.

Teflon Don nickname should be taken from Gotti and given to Trump.

I prefer Shit Weasel.

The Cheeto Bandito

## Keep talking shit

Oh don't worry, he will.

Tulsi has maintained a 100 positive rating from the LGBT community for years now. She's 37 now as opposed to 22, and her position has been solid for years now on the side of equality, gay marriage, and all that. I'll add her turnaround has been LONGER than Hillary, who just recently changed her position regarding gay marriage by contrast. That said, I doubt uninformed straight folk will give a fuck either way, and most gays I know keep better tabs on political records/ACTION than the average straight person that's struggling for high ground when they're grasping at straws.

https://www.tulsigabbard.org/tulsi-gabbard-on-lgbt

That said, if you're so sure she's awful, I can vote Green again, she'll still win my state if nominated laugh

Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand just announced she was setting up an "exploratory committee," which is pretty official at this stage of the race.   What's the 411 on her?

She’s a proverbial flash in the pan...

She's awful. There isn't any doubt about that.

It's America. Vote how you want.

Don't know much about her, other than she used to be more conservative than she claims to be now.

Please expand on her awfulness.

(talking Gillibrand here, not Tulsi)

She seems pretty basic.

Politico says she might have some donor backlash.

https://www.politico.com/story/2019/01/16/gillibrand-franken-scandal-202...

Stupid as it sounds, you need that cash.

Thod loves the money.

To feed that jones.

It's either complain about not having money or go get some.

I choose the latter.

YMMV

Anywhoo, I'm interested in hearing what she has to say.

Admin Judit shot me a warning email a few days ago suggesting I needed to be nice to THOD.

She actually asked you to be nice to TOD?

You know the drill, post the email or it never happened.

Are there any women left on the zone?

I’d answer that JR but admin also sent me an email asking that I don’t talk about other zoners or their wives.

Sure, THOD. Here's what she sent me:

St. Mark,

Please refrain from posting about zoners and/or their wives. Debate and discuss the topics, not the people.

Remember, leave the trolling, bullying and hazing at the door.
... don't belittle or berate someone on a personal level...

Again, please refrain. Thank you.

~ judit

Here's my interpretavive reading of Judit's email:

St. Fuckface,

Please refrain from posting hilarious shit about THOD and his wife (who he brings up, unprompted, on Viva constantly). YOU ARE BAD MAN. You give THOD the sadz, and Judit no like the sadz because N B and {{{{FEELZ}}}

Remember, my misguided censorship of a community I am completely unqualified to moderate is strictly enforced; and banning community members is the perfect expression of my latant authoritarianism.  I am your moral superior.

Again, do as you're told. Thank you.

~judit

Mark, I got one also but it didn't say anything about "and/ or their wives".

Wow, judging from your last post that shit hurt huh?

It really stung, THOD.

I actually curled up with my daughter's lovey and had a cry about it.

Just checked my "spam" folder. I got one also, but, oddly, it was timestamped "Tuesday, January 15 2020" and was signed "Herr Admin."

Judit's mustache is a quick trim away from looking exactly like Hitler's.

Just an observation.

Snark keepin' it classy as always.

im pretty disappointed in you st mark. judging by your behavior you have obviously not watched the new gillette ad and blossomed into the man you are now socially required to be. shame on you.

If it's so bad here, why don't you go somewhere else?  Make the rest of us happy.  If I was Judit, you would be gone.

Like a neutered dog or Tom cat.

There is a difference between light trolling and being out of line.

Is it time for a creekhead photo?

And now, a word from our sponsor

Usually would disregard the story, but it has been picked up by just about every media outlet, from the BBC to the Washington Examiner.

Tick tock.

The Buzz Feed story should be enough for the House committees to run with.  It will be interesting to see what they dig up, but hope its more than just Cohen blabbing and they find some corroborating witnesses.   If not, the trier of fact (which could end up being the US Senate if the House draws up articles of impeachment) can choose to simply disbelieve Cohen.   And even if there turns out to be other witnesses, the GOP run Senate can still choose to disbelieve that other testimony and evidence as well.  But if the evidence turns out to be really, really bad (way worse than Nixon bad), it could make turning a blind eye politically damaging for Senators who choose to ignore it.

Ironic thing is that negotiating with Russians on building a hotel is not a crime - even for a major party's presumptive nominee for US President.   If it ends up that Trump did suborn perjury, that would be another example of the cover up being worse than the crime.

People continue to suffer...

Curious reading George Will's opinion piece today;

"The shabbiest U.S. president ever is an inexpressibly sad specimen"

<<  Dislike of him should be tempered by this consideration: He is an almost inexpressibly sad specimen. It must be misery to awaken to another day of being Donald Trump. He seems to have as many friends as his pluperfect self-centeredness allows, and as he has earned in an entirely transactional life. His historical ignorance deprives him of the satisfaction of working in a house where much magnificent history has been made. His childlike ignorance — preserved by a lifetime of single-minded self-promotion — concerning governance and economics guarantees that whenever he must interact with experienced and accomplished people, he is as bewildered as a kindergartener at a seminar on string theory.

Which is why this fountain of self-refuting boasts (“I have a very good brain”) lies so much. He does so less to deceive anyone than to reassure himself. And as balm for his base, which remains oblivious to his likely contempt for them as sheep who can be effortlessly gulled by preposterous fictions. The tungsten strength of his supporters’ loyalty is as impressive as his indifference to expanding their numbers.   >>

Bernie 2020

F Bernie, he needs to stay far away lest he makes a needless mess of things. We need to nominate an actual Democrat, not a poser with tons of baggage.

Bernie can't run as a Democrat unless he changes party affiliation.

Why did he repeatedly vote against sanctions on Russia?

What about Tad Devine?

Why won't he release his taxes?

Vermont please help your senator find his way out to pasture.

YEAHHHHHHHHHHH....no.

Cory Booker throws his hat into the ring.

Hiya kids, I know you've all been waiting for me to weigh in.  I'm letting the field sort itself out.  Big change this year--CA votes early, so AT LAST we will finally have some say in the primary.  Unfortunately, that will most likely be wasted on Kamala Harris.  I don't hate her, but I don't like her either--although her coming out for single payer was pretty encouraging.  And she'd definitely be tough and competent (but everyone is competent compared to Trump).  However, I have a feeling that her thin veneer of progressiveness would get rubbed off in the White House.  Still, if she's the nominee, I'll vote for her.  Who am I kidding?  I am voting for the nominee.  And if Mitt runs against Trump I might even register GOP and vote for him in the primary.  Down With Trump, vote early, vote often.

Who do I like?  Warren, although I doubt she will win it.  Bernie, is he running?

Who do I want to know more about?  Sherrod Brown, is he running?  He sounded OK.

Who do I not like?  Gillibrand.  If there is a more cynical conservative pretending to be progressive I'm not aware.  Get the fuck out, skank.  I've got your number.

I looked into Tulsi.  While her anti-gayness was when she was 22, here's the thing.  She was a lot more anti-gay than just preferring civil unions to marriage.  She was ANTI-gay.  Her dad's fault, really.  And although is was 15 years ago, she grew up in the 90's, unlike Hillary and all the other old dinosaurs in America who took awhile to let go of our national position on marriage.  It is much weirder to me when young people who should know better have these prejudices.  On the other hand, people do change, and her voting record is OK, so if that's her only problem I can get past that. However, she is a big time hawk when it comes to Islam, and is against taking refugees from Syria, which is pretty concerning.  I don't like how she jumped on Hawaii Senator Mazie Hirono for asking perfectly appropriate questions of a judicial nominee about his membership in the Knights of Columbus, which has lobbied and donated hard for anti-gay and anti-abortion positions. Tulsi called it religious bigotry, which it was not.  But I get that Gabbard is sensitive about this because she is a Hare Krishna (actually, a small sect of Krishna-ism). I kind of like the Krishnas, but I should  educate myself on whether they have any particular political beliefs.  So, all that said, no way in hell she is getting the nomination anyway.

Biden -- nope.  I'd love to have some beers with him, but I can't go back to Bill Clinton's policies. Its time to move forward.

As for the rest, I have an open mind.   Or maybe I just don't know enough about them to love or hate them yet.

Oh on Schultz, I just have to laugh.  He has the brilliant idea that there should be a "centrist" on the ticket.  Like the democratic party doesn't have a fucking surplus of goldang centrists.  Jeeeeez, you mean you just want to save the democrats from democracy if they happen to run a fair primary and choose a more progressive candidate over all the centrists that are already running? Show yourself out.

Booker-Harris is the ticket for 2020!

"From the start, Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard has denounced Russia's attempts to muddle (sic) in our elections and will continue to do so." She noted that Gabbard had cosponsored legislation calling for an independent investigation of Russian interference in the 2016 election, cosponsored a bill prohibiting foreign influence in the election process, and sponsored a bill to protect election infrastructure from hackers."

Say it isn't so Nancy.

2020 DEMOCRATIC PRIMARY

Is Tulsi Gabbard the Jill Stein of 2020?

The Democratic candidate’s perplexing, Bannonesque foreign policy and passivity toward Assad may make her radioactive. And then there is the homophobia.

>Gabbard’s foreign-policy heterodoxy might be surmountable if not for a multitude of other original sins. In late 2016, amid rumors that she was being considered for a Trump administration position, Gabbard took a Trump Tower meeting brokered by Steve Bannon, who praised the Democrat for embracing the term “radical Islamic terrorism.” Outside of U.S. politics, Gabbard has offered vociferous support for India’s staunchly nationalist prime minister, Narendra Modi, who, as chief minister of Gujarat, was accused of complicity in a 2002 religious riot against Muslims that killed more than 1,000 people. (Barack Obama, for what it’s worth, had an “unlikely friendship” with Modi, himself.)

Fears that Gabbard might play the Jill Stein–esque spoiler, then, are likely overblown—if only because Gabbard’s presidential aspirations are probably dead on arrival. Over the weekend, the photogenic 37-year-old congresswoman was forced to apologize for working for her father’s anti-gay organization in the early 2000s, which, per CNN, actively opposed same-sex marriage in Hawaii and supported conversion therapy. (As a state representative, Gabbard was not quiet about her beliefs, testifying on a committee in 2004 against “homosexual extremists” pushing for civil unions.) For today’s Democratic Party, no love of surfing, millennial élan, or fondness for leis will be enough to overcome past homophobia or a Trumpian foreign policy. As R.N.C. spokesman Michael Ahrens told Axios: “Liberals think she’s too conservative, conservatives think she’s too liberal, and just about everyone thinks her coziness with Bashar al-Assad is disturbing.” That doesn’t leave many constituents in Gabbard’s corner—except, perhaps, RT.

Gabbard is a Democrat so hard to imagine by any stretch she'd be a third party spoiler. So far she's the only Democrat running I'd vote for (Warren, maybe if she ran with Gabbard as VP).

That said, if the DNC is only in need of 'real Dems' and Independents are "possers" then they probably don't want Independent votes? Fine by me, my CA votes never count anyhow.

FWIW I think it's silly to take a piss over Warren's stupid DNA test, but I'm not seeking perfection, just someone who isn't essentially a kind of left leaning fiscal republican in blue. Having dug deeper into Gabbard's record, I see no alarming flaws in her congressional voting record, and her military career has most of the republicans in my family who sat out 2016 willing to break party lines to vote for a veteran the dems hate lol.

Tulsi, Tulsi, Tulsi...

Everything you didn't know about Tulsi Gabbard and the Cult she comes from.

Hey I can always vote Independent if Democrats run a centrist again. I'm with Tulsi for now until I see something better from Democrats than the same 2016 losing pattern reruns as "options" and TOD's limp-wristed, racist trolling lol.

You wanna ignore facts?

I don't give a fuck who you vote for.

Trolling?

Nope, but the derp that runs out the side of your mouth is pretty funny...

Good to see you grasp it with both hands.

You folks in Cali were wishy washy on whether Trump was a good idea or not.

Half of you changed handles and 2 years later, don't really recall this.

Tulsi is cute, but fairly stupid. I know her work well.

She is a solid flake..

Senator Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota just announced she is running.

Don't know much about her other than she might position herself as a moderate and has a reputation as being one of the meanest bosses on Capitol Hill, running her office “controlled by fear, anger, and shame.”

Tulsi Gabbard:

"Namaste and As-Salaam-Alaikum! Aloha is a recognition that we are all family. We must speak out with one voice to condemn bigotry and violence. We must speak out for the freedom that allows us each to worship as we choose and to live in peace, with respect for one another.

We are a nation founded on the principle of religious freedom and our continued alliance with Saudi Arabia is abhorrent. Last night I met with Al-Baqee Organization. I stand with them to condemn the destruction of Islamic heritage sites in Mecca and Medina by the Saudi government as a continuation of the Saudi's extremist/exclusivist ideology."

https://www.cnn.com/2019/02/06/politics/cnn-poll-2020-biden-democrats-tr...

WASHINGTON (CNN) More than six in 10 Democratic and Democratic-leaning voters say former Vice President Joe Biden should make a run for president, according to a new CNN poll conducted by SSRS, and half of all Americans say they would be at least somewhat likely to back him should he run for the White House.

At the same time, 52% of Americans say they are not at all likely to support President Donald Trump for re-election in the coming 2020 contest.

biden running guarantees a 2020 trump presidency.

>>>>biden running guarantees a 2020 trump presidency

If Biden had Harris or one of the other well qualified, younger contenders as a running mate, they would do quite well.  Biden brings stability and the Obama legacy (he name drops Barack ever chance he gets) and couple that with a young, progressive firebrand as VP and you got a good formula to win back the swing state voters while keeping the progressive base energized and active.

I agree Ken, but am reluctant to get into political discussions on the Zone, especially this early.

My feeling is Biden brings a stability and past relationships with world leaders that no one else possesses. We need someone who can fix the blunders in foreign policy. The current office holder talks about "setting the table", and I think Biden has done that well with his appearances the last few years. He's viewed as likable, his relationship with the McCain's exhibits bipartisanship, his public image is good, and when half the country says they'd be somewhat likely to support him, that's a damned good approval rating. His pairing with Harris would cover both sides of the country demographically, add a minority woman to the ticket, and I think Harris is not viewed as a screaming liberal who the middle couldn't support. They both could hold their own in a debate. Add Michelle Obama (and Meghan  McCain?) campaigning for them around the country, and 2020 could see a change.

But it is so early, who knows what could happen? Could Kasich beat the idiot at the convention? Different ballgame then. But that ticket would still be a good one. We'll see. Over and out.

Kamala Harris’ A.G. Office Tried to Keep Inmates Locked Up for Cheap Labor

Lawyers for California also argued that allowing certain inmates to be paroled early would deplete a program that allowed prisons to fight wildfires.

Ordered to reduce the population of California’s overcrowded prisons, lawyers from then-California Attorney General Kamala Harris’s office made the case that some non-violent offenders needed to stay incarcerated or else the prison system would lose a source of cheap labor.

biden/harris won’t get progressives to vote

I feel like Biden would an admission that there is no new blood in the democratic party, and that's not even the case, there is.  For the first time in maybe....ever....there seems to be some room for real progressives.  It's been a long time, courtesy of Clinton I.   I don't know that we'll be able to get a true progressive past the primary, but more ideas I like seem to be taking purchase, even amongst the centrists like Harris.

And anyway, we all know that there is a double standard when it comes to Trump and everyone else and if anyone thinks that Biden hasn't been handsy somewhere along the line, they are nuts.  Also, as a person old enough to remember law and order war on drugs joe biden, I don't really trust him.  I'd like to hang out with him, but at the end of the day he's a less sleazy Bill Clinton.  He'd have beaten Trump with a stick if he ran last time, but the world has moved on.  The whole reason Obama picked him was to appease the old white people who were a little afraid of a black President.

Kamala Harris Packed California Prisons for Peddling Pot

At least 1,560 people were sent to state prisons for marijuana-related offenses between 2011 and 2016

Sen. Kamala Harris (D., Calif.) admitted in an interview this week to using marijuana, an act that landed thousands in prison while she was California's Attorney General and opposed legalization of the drug.

The drug use admission to the "Breakfast Club" came as part of Harris' attempt to erase the reputation she earned as a California prosecutor. She is now calling for legalizing marijuana as a first step to end the War on Drugs, but opposed marijuana legalization during both her 2010 campaign for Attorney General and 2014 re-election campaign, when she notably lost support from the marijuana industry after she laughed at her Republican opponent for supporting legalization.

Under Harris's six-year tenure, hundreds were sent to state prisons for marijuana-related offenses, crime records show.

Recently, Barack Obama offered a perspective that progressive democrats may want to heed.

“The way we structure democracy requires you to take into account people who don’t agree with you... And that by definition means you’re not going to get 100 percent of what you want... One of the things I do worry about sometimes among progressives, we start sometimes creating what’s called a ‘circular firing squad’ where you start shooting at your allies because one of them has strayed from purity on the issues.”

As for how the republican base is doing, he offered this:

“Nationalism, particularly from the far right, has re-emerged and we know where that leads. Europe knows better than anyone where that leads.”

lol, obama isn’t a progressive. that’s hilarious.

democratic nominee front runner bernie sanders leading in Mass. new poll.

dude raised 18mil first 3 months of ‘19...blowing away the corporate dems w/ small donations.

Interesting how you put zero stock in polls until one has Sanders on top. Also interesting that you seem to equate money with power at the polls.

It’s sad that you don’t understand that “progressives” alone won’t win the White House. With brusque, uninformed and myopic supporters like you, all that money is going to be wasted.

Obama is not running.  One can laugh off his advise all one wants to, but what will that accomplish?

Currently Bernie is ahead in most polls of announced democratic contenders.  It is a bit early in the process.

This labeling of any liberal who doesn’t support Bernie as a “Corporate Democrat” is both erroneous and polarizing. It’s just a sophomoric ploy to shame people who don’t agree with you. As “corporate” has negative connotations among the far left, it’s used as a pejorative. It’s just as stupid as labeling every Bernie supporter as a Socialist.

Andrew Yang for President in 2020.

Never got the Bernie appeal. He's a ranting and raving crazy old man with some good ideas but will never have sufficient appeal. He couldn't even beat Hillary who was weakened by 25 years of Republican smear campaigns.....

>He couldn't even beat Hillary<

you mean the DNC choice that was forced upon the party.

they rode a lame horse and wondered why it died.

plus aren't you the guy that said nelson wouldn't paly again?

^right? lol. and, yes, he is.

<<<>>>This labeling of any liberal who doesn’t support Bernie as a “Corporate Democrat” is both erroneous and polarizing.

who's doing that?

corporate dems, like booker, biden, kamala, etc., should be labled/called out as such -- they don't represent us.

I don’t know, you paint “us” with a very broad stroke, as if the progressives are the majority. Sure, they may be in Vermont and some urban and suburban areas, but not the rest of the country. The vast majority of Americans consider themselves to be moderates, who more closely align with those who you call “corporate democrats.”

How do you bring them into the fold, so that a progressive has a hope of beating Trump in 2020? I’ve asked you that numerous times, and you don’t have an answer. I can tell you that the language you use pushes people away rather than invites them in.

Barack must read the Zone! Give me a call Barry, I'd love to chat. LOL

This is what scares me about the Demos. They're good at snatching defeat from the jaws of victory as they try to please the various factions under the tent. Let's hope it doesn't turn into a circular firing squad.

OK so Barak stole this circular firing squad notion from the zone.  Specifically from the zoner above me. ^

I'm far from convinced that the jaws of victory R there to b had.  Still this provable zoner idea about a firing squad may have legitimacy to it.

I share in the hope that this does not happen.

Here are two very different op-ed pieces on Obama's "circular firing squad" comment.  The first is from a right wing Fox News contributor who stunningly says "Obama was right" (that might be a first for Fox News) and that the democrats are setting Trump up for a landslide in 2020 with their infighting and race to the left:

https://www.foxnews.com/opinion/robert-charles-obama-is-right-dems-are-s...

The next is from a left leaning commentator from the Guardian who claims Obama is stuck in the past and doesn't understand the new progressive Democratic party that offers a comprehensive agenda that voters will understand and appreciate:

https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2019/apr/08/barack-obama-democ...

We will see how it all turns out, but its apparent that the Republicans are breaking out the popcorn for the Democratic primary in hopes they eat themselves alive leaving whoever gets the nomination already battered and maligned going into the general election.   Its also clear that the Republican operatives are already taking down everything the Democratic contenders say and do on the campaign trail looking for extreme left wing comments that can be packaged into soundbites come 2020 to make them look too extreme and "socialist" for voters in key Midwest battleground states.

i think bernie never really stopped campaigning since 2016.

taking his town halls to republican/moderate regions and speaking truth to power have landed him

in the position he’s currently in — healthcare and taxes are huge — people want M4A and people

want the mega rich taxed at a reasonable rate. working class americans got fucked by trumps tax cuts, healthcare, everything lol.

his town hall next week on fox news will be great, spread the message to the trumpers in PA, and to the rest of them via the republican state sponsored news network lol.

the midterms saw the dems replace establishment corporatist dems w/ left of center leaning new blood.

bernie crushing it.

somebody like biden or beto just isn’t going to get the votes they need to beat trump, imo.

this is bernie’s time, more than 2016 was.

funny, seems like bernie may have an easier time getting moderate republican votes than loyal corporatist dem votes.

crazy.

If a Democrat wins but the Senate is still a Republican majority, does Trump still get to avoid impeachment?

yes.

>>>>does Trump still get to avoid impeachment?

If Trump is defeated, there would be no reason to impeach him because he is on his way out anyway.  Once he is out of office, however, he could then be prosecuted for obstruction of justice and whatever the Southern District of New York can dig up on him.
