I can sympathize -- after many years of Good back Health,  got smacked in a car wreck and have all these "herniated discs" + "subluxations" whatever that means.

Neurosurgeon did not tell me to have surgery,  but months of Physical Therapy.  The back is getting better,  but I can't actually do my Firewood job.  Starting to walk right again,  after 7 months.

Good luck Rob, hope it goes well. I am going next week to X-ray my back and neck to see how bad things are, numbness in legs and arms is increasing and my arm strength is deteriorating. Going to decide whether I should do something before retiring in the next couple years. Not a lot of pain but I have not played golf in a month

I am so sorry for what both of you guys are going through. I suppose we can be grateful it's not 1920, and may modern medicine apply to fix you both up. 

This "getting old" thing has got some side roads.

I have been exactly where you are at four or five years ago. I still have pains, major pains.

My surgeon told me to expect about a seventy percent reduction in pain. He was /is very accurate. 

Rob, I hope you have similar results. 

Big time game and quality of life changer. Shit man maybe in a couple of years (or less)you'll be able to sit on a board in the surf, bro.

Remember,  be an animal whith the physical therapy.

Worth looking into. My apologies to you for my fucking pathetic incompetence in not being able to talk you out of surgery. Total fail on my part, I suck. Oh no, Rob, so sorry to hear that that's how it's going now. Sounds so bad!!! What does the surgeon say? Or other docs you can ask? Leaking spinal fluid doesn't sound right and the pain sounds like way terrible. What do they say can be done?

Keep your chin up man, you can weather this. How's your off list support team treating you ? They listening ? Before you get involved in initiating a lawsuit, maybe you should put your energy into figuring out what can be done to lessen the pain and start the healing.

I'm sorry it's so bad.

You might want to consider consulting with a pain management doctor.  It is inconvenient and does open up the possibility of dealing with another incompetent medical incompetent/complication.  But it also could afford you and the or another spine doc the ability to concentrate on getting your spine in its new normal state instead of having to deal with both the spine and the pain.

Bump for an update. How's it going PLF?

I'm am not sure how common it is for neurologists to perform lower spine surgeries . My surgeon is an orthopedic specialist. 

I think I meant to type neurosurgeon instead of neurologist. 

So I've been working with neurosurgeon,  Physical Therapists,  Chiropractor and so forth after a car crash,  and fortunately did not need surgery for all the various mashed-up discs.

Actually the latest round of Physical Therapy has been helpful,  and I'm getting better.

Aquatherapy has been great in the process.  Basically a giant hot tub with Treadmill built in.  It's a workout and the Therapists are quite skilled at their job.
