#3   "Killing Me Softly with His Song"   Roberta Flack

I recently learned this song was written as a homage to Don McClean's 'American Pie'

i don't think 'homage' is the right word.  maybe a response or tribute?

i heard the story from an interview Gilbert Gottfried had with songwriter Charles Fox. He must have conflated 'american pie' with 'empty chairs'.
