Bye bye job, I'm going on tour!

Forums:

I am no longer employed at the job I moved down to the Bay Area for....I am happy to be free of the daily stress the bad manager was causing me.

Let's just say I spoke truth to power too many times in the past 5 months and it was clear to me that the manager was building a case against me...she's had 5 people leave her team in the 2 years since she was hired -- but she's well protected because she's good friends with all-white old-boys-network board, some of whom have been on the board for 30+ years, even though they are "publicly elected."

It sounds strange to be micro-managed doing remote work, but that's what she was doing.

Is there really such a thing as muscle memory?  I've been trying to work on job applications, but every time I sit down at the computer to work on those lengthy applications, my body says NO! and I go swim or hike because that's making me happier these days.  Major procrastination issues this week, but best tan year ever, LOL.

If anyone knows of some short-term gig work f until I "go on tour" in October, my email is in profile.
Besides my skills as a Bill Graham wanna-be promoter / connector / planner, editor, writer,  project manager, etc,  I also have excellent skills in interior painting and color consulting (though my equipment for that is in Portland).

Because I have free time, I'm trying to road trip to Oregon Sept 30 - Oct 6ish, too.

Thanks for listening! Writing helps me to process my situation.

One door closes, so many can open up. You'll do well no matter where you land, yer a zoner. Enjoy the days, enjoy the road.

Lot's of jobs out here in the northeast in case the wind pushes you that way.

Well when I was just a little boy
Standin' to my Daddy's knee
My Papa said "Son, don't let the man get you
Do what he done to me
'Cause he'll get you
'Cause he'll get ya now, now"

I support less work and more play!! Don't be a dull boy (like Jack says)....

I've been at 75% capacity, purposefully, for the last year. Feels like I hardly work at all....

water is doing well for the ones touring

I don't know you and it's frankly none of my business but how/why did you move from Portland to Bay Area for "remote work"?

At any rate, yea, enjoy your life. It seems like too many workplaces, organizations, and jobs are really cluttered with $&#@*"& these days too, from people to policies and beyond.

mike you've always been a great color guy

And T.O.D., I've always liked your play-by-play.

I thought this was a Bryen thread

^^^^ LOL Alan ^^^

Thanks all, I knew you'd make me laugh hysterically (Mike) and appreciate your support.
Yep, "dull" is not my goal.  I'm a hard worker when the job is a good fit. This one wasn't, and I made the wrong choice.

Thanks for your question Strawbud: This job was at a public agency in Silicon Valley, and they were supposed to return to the office in Los Altos in early summer -- but Delta variant pushed the return date out to October.  The very odd thing is that their "telecommute policy" does not allow employees to work from outside of the Bay Area -- how ridiculous is that?  I had to get special permission to work from Oregon for 4 days in late May.  I also had motivation to move for personal reasons, and I'm glad I did move.....but don't feel rooted anywhere yet and will apply for jobs in states other than California just to see where the wind takes me.

Don't even get me started about the difficulties experienced when filing an unemployment claim in this state.

Summertime done, come and gone, my, oh, my...

One man gathers with another man spills

I guess we'll be seeing you in Port Chester

^^^ Yep,  I've had CAP planned for months....

And it's one, two, three,

What are we workin' for?

Don't ask me, I don't give a damn,

Next stop is Amsterdam.

^^^ OK.  I adore NL!  If only I had an EU passport....

LLOLLO, if you want to come down south for a few days to do some trimming, I can hook you up with a couple jars of some hetty nugs and all the scissors hash you can smoke.

embassy suites night before dead co deer creek

homie says....

I can get to dillon, you know when I did that one run yadda etc.

do the math

made it

say hi to the O zee

my bagels been toasted for years, good luck!

 LOL Thanks Turts.

...and thanks Mike, that wouldn't be a good form of payment for my situation and it would also make my procrastination problem worse... but I've always thought it would be cool to help trim just for the experience of it... have helped grower friends a little in Oregon but then quickly lost interest, probably because I was doing it for free.

burn it down, burn it down

LLOLLO, I'm happy you made the move away from that miserable situation. Music and a better life lie ahead.

Cool Beans. Change is good, especially if it takes you away from a foul situation. Best Wishes!!

Thanks Judit!   heartheartheart
Let me know if I can shuttle anything from Cali for you on Sept. 30 / Oct. 1!
Would love to meet up... if not this trip, then another one.

Can't think of anything for you to bring, LLOLLO, but thanks. I have medical stuff on 9/30, but nothing on 10/1, so far. If we can figure out an outside meeting place for a short visit, that'll work. My deck will work again if the weather and timing are good.

Oct 1 sounds good! My usual stop is the Fisherman's Market on W. 7th.... I'll be in touch next week.

If you want to/need to stop by you are always welcome.

Aww, thanks Surf, I'll see what I can fit in and will let you know, I have your number.

if only you lived further east and south... I'm looking for a free place to crash and nap in Ashland area, don't think I can make it any farther north on first day..

Bryen  would have to have a job in order to be able to quit one

congrats! will we be seeing you at the DNB this saturday??

i can't handle live shows anymore. there should be rule about no cell phones. it ruined my last experience. i also wasn't on drug band drugs, so there's that.

DickyB>  TXR is a possibility!

Didn't buy a ticket, we'll see.

Free ticket to DNB on the zone!  Grab it!

Hoping all goes well with your future adventures.  Life is short ~ enjoy all the obstacles you get to jump over, roll through, break apart, and re-build.  It sounds like you're still on the right track!

Best of luck to you. It's too bad it didn't work out, but at least you got out of it sooner rather than later.

I'm sure your positive attitude will land you in the right place.

Safe and happy travels!

Darn, just missed that ticket.
thanks for your kind words!

I posted to the ticket filder a bit ago that I'll trade my JRAD Frost ticket for tomorrow's DNB if anyone has an extra.

Your former employer is going to regret treating you like that.   Vibes for your new journeys and let me know if you make it back up here for shows and what not.

Hey Ken!  I'll be in Portland Oct 1-4 for a quick trip, no shows, may go to Goose Hollow.....will text ya once I'm up there...

My old bureau wants to discuss potential temporary remote work while I hunt for other stuff... we'll see.

See you at DNB Llollo...

Just sold my JRAD ticket a minute ago, so now I can justify buying a ticket... see ya'll on the inside!

^^^ Yes, they did play that, followed by Ripple.
It was a fun show..... nice to see everyone having fun.
