Captain James T. Kirk

Forums:

William Shattner has to wait one more day.

Reports say he is scarred shitless

Typing with left hand, couldn't resist

Just watched the whole thing from lift off to landing.  Seems like a lot of trouble for a few minutes of zero g, put hope Shatner got a kick out of it.  Pretty cool that he is now the oldest dude that has gone to space.

Out of the blue and into the black

he saw the darkness of death

Tons of real astronauts were inspired by Cap'n Kirk. It's pretty badass that he's gone into space for real. It's very moving, in a cheesy kind of way, which is right on par for Shatner.

The only thing cooler would have been if a Klingon Bird Of Prey had uncloaked and zapped him into eternity.

He's looking amazingly fit for a 90 year old.

Couple of things I noticed upon re-entry and yeah Ken >>>Seems like a lot of trouble for a few minutes of zero g     It's freaking amazing they can land that booster like they can. WOW!

When Shattner first started telling Bezos about it, Bezos was attentive, but then got distracted by the champagne stuff and turned the other way. Shattner kinda looked like "WTF? Wasn't I trying to tell you something?'" as Bezos quit paying attention to him. I  thought Shattner looked a bit miffed as I bet doesn't happen very often to him.

Shattener was quite eloquent as he described his feelings, and Bezos paid rapt attention then. That will be replayed many times over.

But friends and family came to greet them, and I wondered where Shattner's were? Seemed like there was no one there to greet him. I thought that was a little odd, but maybe there were logistical things that played a part in that I don't know about.

Amazing events rich folks get to participate in.

Maybe a Dark Star tonight at the Cap.

Or SOTM

Or Mountains of the Moon

Please mr Captain Kirk, I wanna have yuh baby

Congratulations to James Tiberius Kirk for finally getting SPACED...

I noticed it too slickrock ... to the point of it being one of the big takeaways along with a somewhat negative impression of Bezos.  Having said that, I've kinda followed Shatner on Twitter and have noticed how he has gotten into it arguing with people in the autism community ... not just a one off, but an ongoing tit for tat that reminds me of Bob Barker getting into a fight with Happy Gilmore.  So, maybe it's just two ego maniacs in the same "room"?   To me, the whole scene with champaign being "wasted" was emblematic of rich people's playground ... and now curious about the origins of this practice?

I thought Shatner was definitely affected by his experience, but also wondering if there wasn't any sort of pre-planning about a general outline of what he was going to say aftwards?

I hate to say it, but I've been hearing for years (decades?) how much of a jerk Shatner is with fans and people who work around him. I have no first hand experience, other than my mother distantly knew him in university in Montreal in the late 50's, and said he was pretty full of himself, especially when he landed a major role at the prestigious Sratford Shakespeare festival. ("To...be...or not....to...BE!")

He seems an obvious choice to send to the edge of space from a popular culture perspective, but as a person, maybe not so deserving.

I met him at a Star Trek screening a few years ago and thought he seemed genuine, took time to chat.
