CRB R.I.P.

Forums:

My sources are saying no shows after July.

Chris’ new girlfriend ran Neal and Adam out.

https://youtu.be/dC7aouwt9Aw

What will they sound like without Clavinet?

he was trying to emulate a theremin

a crushing blow to the community

GLR could be better

casal is solid.  Human and player

Bring back the Hard Working Americans!  But it seems a bit strange as they will be releasing their new album Servants of The Sun.......

Seems like Adam is the only one officially out after July.  Have shows scheduled in August and 1 in October.

Not sure on CRB but you won't see the Crowes until Chris parts ways with his gf/manager.  I think he found his soulmate.  They both come across as assholes, it's a perfect fit.

He already split with the gf/manager.  He's got a new Yoko now.

Zoners actual listen to this tool?  CR is laughable.

rustlers have legs.

nice to see the boys tour in a band that's not moonalice.

This just seems very weird to me...

Green Leaf Rustlers is the only CR band I would pay more than $5 to see. Dude is a paradigm of mediocrity

He's a vocalist which usually means jam killer or cliche filler.

You must not have heard, Chris is a guitarist now too.

Maybe his next band should be HBB - Hoes Before Bros

some sweet hot takes in here

last post was a pretty big fail there, bucky.

back to the drawing board with your attempt to be be witty on a dbmb.

if you can get around his annoying patchwork pants vibe, he's actually a decent vocalist.

he's better then grahme on guitar....and supposedly has been taking some lessons from barry sless.

he's a "serviceable" front man.

i think the rustlers are pretty damned good and the 451 engine can continue to run...

Who plays keys in Rustlers?

>>>>last post was a pretty big fail there, bucky.

lol ok shitty arbiter of humor. gtfo of my thread and start your own

are you the one who shits in a hole like a cat?

There are no keys in the normal GLR lineup.

>Who plays keys in Rustlers? <

DNB - mookie, + greg locicano - N + CR

im sure i would enjoy a GLR show, its hard to dislike any band that features a sizeable fraction of the DNB, but i really dont get why the rest of the DNB feels the need to fill in david's spot with other musicians to create new, semi-DNB type bands/one-off configurations.

nobody will ever be able to fill david's shoes, not even close. that california whatever band with the blond girl singing is downright depressing...as they jam you feel that DNB power starting to build, then right as it seems they are going to blast off, she starts singing again and you become painfully aware that david is missing from the situation, instead of just enjoying what should seem more like a new band than a tired replacement.

there are 2 things that make the DNB one of the greats - david; his perspective, and his songs, andthe second thing is the incredible improvisations/jams. nobody will ever replace david, at least nobody who would be willing to form a band with the rest of the guys...so instead of trying to find people to fill the "david slot", why not just focus on the other thing that makes the DNB great? THE JAMS. no new player is going to get in there and be on the level with these guys...they have an intimate group mind thing going that is tough to break into...even when phil guests, im still left feeling that the magic circle has been broken by adding another musician, no matter how great or how well versed in the psychedelic jam.

i think it would be really, really exiting to see a "davidless nelson band"...just barry, pete, mookie and john, playing instrumental DNB songs, instrumental covers, and huge improvisations, peppered with mookie or pete songs from DNB, and a few new covers that mookie or pete could sing...but mostly jams and instrumental DNB...although as i type it out, im not sure how well that would sell...sure im sure it sounds great to most zoners, but would the masses want to digest such a thing? idk, but i think its worth a try.

I sense a 30th anniversary Black Crowes reunion in the offing.

DNB plays a bunch of quick diddys that aren't 42 minute mind fucks. Just a little swing and soul.

Do the Rustlers really stretch out more than the Kind or McNamalice?

rustlers rip.

they don't do long gone sams...but ...

go see a fucking show.

CR seems like the type of guy that asks a couple of musicians to play with him, not the other way around.

but i really dont get why the rest of the DNB feels the need to fill in david's spot with other musicians to create new, semi-DNB type bands/one-off configurations.

Probably to make some money to pay the bills.

Does Barry only play pedal steel in Rustlers?

Yes, which is fantastic!

Love Barry on the steel!

4146A8E1-7486-44AA-AB18-14D9D0B79748.jpeg

He plays a lot of pedal steel with GLR, but not exclusively.

Yes, there are often 3 or more guitars.

Well if Casal is gonna deal with a Prima donna singer...Bring back the Cardinals!

RA could use a re-boot right about now!

nice melt bucky.

just try harder was all I was asking.

Too bad if this is true. I'm not a huge Chris Robinson fan, but he can sing a good rock 'n roll song and the CRB is/was a good bar band. Better some nights than others, but a good roots rock band.

I've not seen the GLRs, but I would imagine that band came out of the Robinson Hootenanny Heroes shows he did at TxR in 2017, where for the second show he used Molo, Sears & Sless.

Personally I wish Robinson would play more shows with the first of those TxR Hootenanny bands that had the guitarist from Earthless and some other fine players. THAT show just ripped from start to finish.

It has truly been an amazing thing watching the trajectory of this guy’s entire career from the beginning.

Chris Robinson pays top dollar for ripped jeans.

>>>>just try harder was all I was asking.

ok sorry about the cat thing I’ll try harder

Woah, I didn't hear that about Neal :(, just Adam !    Sounds like a mess in the CRB camp.

We got 20 dollar tics ( including fees) to the CRB show in Delaware at the Queen in a couple of weeks, going to Camp Jam in the Pines festi day before and after, curious to see who shows up to play...;).  Before that we are going to see GLR at Levon's Barn, I am more excited to see Pete,Molo and Barry than Chris ( I really miss DNB band )...but from the vids I have seen it should really be good...add in Levon's magical space and there is sure to be some cosmic activity happening.

Gonna be awkward on the tour bus with Yoko and NC in the summer - vibes to Neal. Neal should consider playing with someone a little more stable than Chris. Maybe put the Cardinals back together.

There's gotta be a band out there that needs a two-chord synth-jam specialist.

Yes Circles Around The Sun uses him still

If the woman who was with Chris Robinson at TXR on 4/25 is who you are calling Yoko, that's interesting. She was quiet, drank white wine, went where she wanted to, hung out and talked with him while DNB was on. I was nearby and wished they had been quieter...

Though I'm not that fond of his music, I thought CR was actually a pretty good guest musician since he obviously knew how to play with the rest of the G L Rustlers.

Chris’ new girlfriend who you called Yoko is in this video, which is for their latest single from what will inevitably be their last album ever

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=szcHiuFd-Tg

I am going to see Circles Around the Sun next week. Looking forward to the show.

I didn't even realize that he was onto another Yoko.  Dudes got the mojo, can't deny that.

My first experience with Chris was on the Crowes first big tour opening for ZZ Top.  Chris got pissed at a security guard and the band walked off the stage.  They were fired from the tour at the next stop.  He still thinks that HE was the Black Crowes. Rich was just kinda glomming onto him -- though Rich wrote all the songs.  No doubt that his vocals, stage presence and general douchery helped bring them to stardom.

I really liked the Black Crowes version with Marc Ford. I’d go see them again if he was with them.

That ZZ Top tour must have been the one where Chris complained from the stage that the tour was being sponsored by Budweiser, which I don’t think went down to well.

Inside sources who cannot be identified due to concerns of retribution are telling me this morning that the animosity in CRB began when Chris stole poster-artist Alan Forbes’ girlfriend (Yoko) away from him. This did not go down well with the Brotherhood.

Alan was instrumental in designing the Black Crowes logo as well as doing the vast majority of the CRB album covers and tour posters. He got jumped coming home one night, went back home with two skull fractures and there were some benefit concerts held to help him out. https://www.nbcbayarea.com/news/local/Alan-Forbes-Benefit-San-Francisco-...

So I guess after he got better, Chris stole his girlfriend, Alan split and now the band is done.

>>Inside sources who cannot be identified due to concerns of retribution are telling me this morning that the animosity in CRB began

Lol, this guy.  Did they ask you to leak it to viva?

That's nuts. Alan Forbes has done so many CR related posters.... friends w him on FB, I have a few of his posters. amazing artist

Though I would never type or speak 'inside sources...'  this sounds about right Bucky.

I played on a gig with Blue Floyd, Mark was supposed to be the guitarist but canceled last minute. Audley flew in, took the loss, filled in & blew away anything Marc could have done.  Marc and Chris should start the Band of Dickheads.

Chris Robinson Brotherhood Part Ways with Adam MacDougall, Cancel NYC Show

Earlier today, Chris Robinson Brotherhood canceled their previously announced appearance at New York’s recently reopened Webster Hall, citing “unforeseen scheduling conflicts,” and the band has now confirmed to Jambands.com that keyboardist Adam MacDougall is leaving the band.

“The CRB and Adam MacDougall have parted ways. It was a great run with Adam and we wish him the best,” a statement from the group reads. “We are looking forward to releasing our new studio album, Servants of the Sun, on June 14 and will continue to tour through the end of July. Following which, the band will take the remainder of 2019 off.”

MacDougall, who has ben with the CRB since their inception in 2011, also played with Robinson in The Black Crowes and has been a member of Phil Lesh & Friends in the past. Along with the canceled NYC show, the end-of-2019 break seems to rule out the CRB’s schedule appearance at Virginia’s LOCKN’ Festival in August.

Robinson and company are set to play a show in Hermosa Beach, CA, this Saturday. See the band’s full schedule here.

The show this Saturday is not CRB, but “Chris Robinson and Friends.”

It follows an As the Crow Flies appearance at Beachlife Festival tomorrow.

Nobody "steals" somebody from somebody else. Regardless of the relationship, you do not own another, so it can't be stolen. Besides, the person that is supposedly stolen is pretty much gone before someone else comes along.

Good point ski, bad choice of words. Maybe Chris stole her heart?

In any event, the band is done and that’s why.

interesting zooey

this might be my first thread that goes to 100 posts

i mean if cr is stealing your lady, i don't know what to tell you...

if he's going to be hanging with pete sears, that should set him straight. he just needs better influencers...

Nobody "steals" somebody from somebody else. Regardless of the relationship, you do not own another, so it can't be stolen<<<

Couldn't the same thing be said about any external "object" (other than a component of one's body)?

What is it to "own" something?

While I don't begrudge him and appreciate him as a musician, I thought AM was the weak link in CRB ... at least in so far as taking the ensemble "sideways" with his style/tones (someone mentioned theramin above).   I'm all for psychedelic exploration, but more times than not he seemed to spin his wheels in the sand vs. propelling the situation into something more meaningful.  This is not to say the latter never happened, or that he didn't do his part to make it happen ... it's just that on average, it didn't always work out as well as it could have.

adam macdougall is one of my favorite keyboardists to hear play with phil...for about 5 minutes.

i thought it was odd he kept a glass bowl and kept hitting it during a show.

like i guess he didn't get enough before the show or at setbreak.

Saw this on FB - can’t vouch for its accuracy:

Pete Sears on keys for the remaining CRB tour in US, Joel from Once and Future Band in Europe

Back in the 60’s the tune Layla was written by E for G’s wife P.

To which G wrote a note saying:

‘E+P God Bless Us All, love from G.’

Those crazy 60’s rockers.

a lot of breaking news in this thread. well done vivva’s

>>>Those crazy 60’s rockers.

yup they were polyamorous

Layla is the worst goddamn song ever recorded.

If Pete Sears is on keyboard for this tour, that's way cool.  Psyched smiley

Joel from Once and Future Band is awesome, he is perfect for that band but still can't save it

"According to the announcement shared by the festival, CRB will no longer perform due to a “scheduling conflict”, and has been replaced on the event schedule by Midnight North. The band did not make any statement of their own, and has yet to share their plans for replacing MacDougall."

https://liveforlivemusic.com/news/chris-robinson-brotherhood-cancels-lockn/

Whoa I didn’t know this about Pete Sears. He played piano on every track except one on Rod Stewart’s killer album “Every Picture Tells a Story”. Wow, I’m impressed!

Got any other Pete facts people should know?

>>> Crowes ZZ Top -  Chris got pissed at a security guard and >>>

I was at that show in New Haven.

That Crowes set was one fucked situation. Was so looking forward to them. A couple overly enthusiastic girls wouldn't return to their seats swooning over the band who just started, and this asshole Coliseum  security guard (not NH police) started dragging one away. Chris saw it got right on the mic and said, ' we dont play in places that beat up girls' , and the band walked off. I was in the 10th row and didn't see any beating take place, just a drunk fan being led away. But WTF.

It was like their 1st or 2nd song. I felt chris could have handled it differently.

He could have defused it, and save a fan from being tossed, but instead he was an all about me putz.

As fucking usual. He's such a primadonna asshole.

I got my revenge when his weak ass brotherhood opened for the mule in Kingston years ago.

I heckled him pretty good, calling his band soft and weak, and constantly asking where Rich was.

Fuck CR

His vocals with Phil at Bonaroo ruined that set.

He also played on country comforts and cut across shortly on Gasoline Alley when rod was on Mercury.

and also legit jammed onstage with Jimi Hendrix (I could count the living ones almost on one hand)

backed freddie king

you know that Whitey Morgan song “bad news”? Pete. Original band he recorded it with was called Stoneground. Off the self titled album.

you know that Alembic “dragon” bass he had out for a while? It was built by Tom Lieber, who originally worked with Doug Irwin. The cocobolo slab it is made from bookmatches tiger. Same stump.

what a chap

Very cool mice elf I didn’t know much of that either

>>>>I heckled him pretty good, calling his band soft and weak

lol that’s funny I haven’t witnessed much heckling at jam band shows

I never could get past the beards. I get 1 or 2 of them, but the entire band just makes it a stupid hippie fashion statement. Posers...

>>>>. I get 1 or 2 of them, but the entire band

Hell of a man a gentleman a sweetheart and amazing musician

He did get that bass back recently after a long hiatus with it living in Germany I believe

I know I saw stoneground in the crackerbox gym at Stanford when I was a lad. I loved the guitar player’s puffed up cheeks

And McDougall it was way less wanky ) last time I saw him play with Phil probably Telstar

So more Circles?.....................nice!

Roger dropped that one and damaged the headstock is why Pete doesn’t trot it out anymore I would figure.

The leather bomber cap isn’t just for dashing good looks, either. Dude used to fly biplanes (open cockpit) as a hobby.

Pete Sears ‎– Watchfire

Label: Redwood Records (3) ‎– RR-8806

Released: 1988

This album represents a triumph of integrity for this journeyman rock & roller (Rod Stewart, Stoneground, and most recently Starship). The whole album is thematized around promoting progressive political and ecological agendas and some of the proceeds will be donated to a wide range of groups working in these areas. The music is mainly in a folk-rock vein, with a stellar cast of supporting musicians, including David Grisman, Jerry Garcia and Mickey Hart, with vocalists Mimi Farina, Holly Near, and Kitty Beethoven helping out his own slightly strained vocals (appealing nonetheless). Andean influences and varied world music styles find their way into this music.

**The sessions are credited for restarting the relationship with Garcia & Grisman that led to their shows and recordings of the early 90's**

>>>>Got any other Pete facts people should know?

Pete Sears had a bit part in a Dracula movie.   In 1972, legendary British film studio Hammer Film Productions attempted to revamp its Gothic horror series by transporting Dracula to modern day London in a film called "Dracula A.D. 1972."  During one scene, a group of fashionable young people (who later resurrect Dracula in an occult ceremony) throw a party featuring Stoneground with Pete Sears on bass:

Stoneground.jpg

Here is a clip from the film of the party scene and Stoneground's groovy music:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=18RKwISa6JM

Robinow should be great too.  He used to play in Howlin Rain.  Pete Sears is one of my favorite people on the planet.

Kinda curious how this all went down. Would be great if we got more GLR.  I hear that Jackie Greene us now playing guitar for Chris' Faux Crowes Band.  Jackie is good on his own, but sucked in TBC.

>>>>Kinda curious how this all went down.

Chris stole Alan Forbes’ girlfriend

lets be real here. mcdoogs was and would be now a part time session musician that no one would have heard of without CR. He pretty much sucked in the BC, chunk a funking Wiser Time and other classic Ed keyboard tunes to also unlistenable depths. I'll admit he was pretty good on the piano tunes though. He was entertaining in CRB mostly because of his mannerisms, acting like some keyboard wizard while making guitar solo orgasm faces while playing.

Does anyone really care about him anyway besides bucky?

His parents were in the grate  room a few weeks back

Circles around the sun

>>>>Does anyone really care about him anyway besides bucky?

how did you get that impression? based on your paragraph up there you know/care more about him than me

lol, you sure have thin skin for a badger.

No...no...no..Portland Ken. While Pete Sears did play bass for Stoneground at a certain point in time, he was not with them when Dracula 1972 was filmed. The bassist in that clip looks nothing like Pete Sears at any age. That is Sal Valentino from the Beau Brummels singing lead though.

Hey at least I’m not whining about the demise of black crowes classic keyboard tunes my feline fecal friend

I'm happy your thread finally got to 100 dude.

no worries, bud. I don't take anything here seriously. I just lol every time at dudes who get riled up by CR. I mean, the guy's been a dick since the late 80s. who cares? take comfort, you're not the only one in this thread.
