With Steve Earle at FarmAid.  I first saw her when she opened for Earle at UCLA a long time ago. She was married to him at the time. She is married to Hayes Carll now.   She gets even better with age.

Oh yeah, did I mention she was HOT!!!?  I got such a crush.

I watched a few of them, and watched an interview with her about her family. Man, life can be strange.

I think she's attractive, too, Mark, but I like Hayes Carll's looks better.

Agree with Mark's comments on Allison Moorer. I was a bit saddened when Steve Earle's band went back to The Dukes instead of The Dukes and Dutchesses when she and Steve broke up. Not to negate how good The Dukes are, but she added a little extra to Earle's band, besides her looks.

I think Kelley Swindall is about to break out to a larger audience.

I've also been impressed with Sasha Dobson's new album, Simple Things, which has Don Was and Jay Lane as her band. I'll post one song that has grabbed me since I first heard her doodling it into life. If you want to hear more, it's all on YouTube.

She does a great version of Dylans Not Dark Yet with Shelby Lynne who is her sister

I understand, Judit.

2 good songs from Kellie there Adam. She has got talent. And she plays the harp!

Sasha has that soft sexy voice that has carried others a long way.

Have not heard that Fishcane.  Will look for it.   I also did not know they were sisters. Somehow missed that.

^

LOL. I didn't mention Allison and Shelby being sisters because with all the other stuff you wrote I though for sure you knew their siblinghood.

Kelley is one of those artists that have put in their dues for quite awhile now and has gotten the attention of the right people. Things are afoot and I'm happy for her.

Sasha is another person that has been working at it for a long time. Her father was a big jazz session player in CA and Sasha has been on stage singing since she was 11, I think. The timing of the release of the above album was crappy. She had tours set up, the support of people like Don Was, Bob Weir and Norah Jones (Norah is 1/3 of Puss N' Boots, with Sasha being another 1/3 and Cat Popper being the last) and Covid interrupted all of her plans for support. It's a great album and, unfortunately, it's getting very little exposure. She has been doing some video gigs on the beach with a rotating cast of well know jazz cats that gets broadcast on Instagram and Facebook each week.

Nandi Rose Plunkett

Her band is called Half Waif

She is awesome.  I think I'm in love.

I've seen Margo Price, and think she's pretty good.  Her band is talented.

I haven't really checked her out, but Brandi Carlile gets much love from the general public, and is involved in some worthwhile activities.

The meadowlark and the chim-choo-ree, and the sparrow
Set to the sky in a flying spree, for the sport of the pharaoh
A little while later the Pharisees dragged a comb through the meadow
Do you remember what they called up to you and me in our window?

There is a rusty light on the pines tonight
Some corn wine, Lord, or merlot
Into the bones of the birches
And the spires of the churches
Jutting out from the shadows
And the yoke and the axe and the old smokestacks and the bale and the barrow
And everything sloped like it was dragged from a rope
In the mouth of the south below

We've seen those mountains kneeling, felten and grey
We thought our very hearts would up and melt away
From the snow in the night time
Just going
And going
And the stirring of wind chimes
In the morning
In the morning
Helps me find my way back in
From the place where I have been

And, Emily, I saw you last night by the river
I dreamed you were skipping little stones across the surface of the water
Frowning at the angle where they were lost, and slipped under forever
In a mud-cloud, mica-spangled, like the sky'd been breathing on a mirror

Anyhow, I sat by your side, by the water
You taught me the names of the stars overhead that I wrote down in my ledger
Though all I knew of the rote universe were those Pleiades loosed in December
I promised you I‘d set them to verse so I'd always remember

That the meteorite is a source of the light
And the meteor's just what we see
And the meteoroid is a stone that's devoid of the fire that propelled it to thee

And the meteorite's just what causes the light
And the meteor's how it's perceived
And the meteoroid's a bone thrown from the void that lies quiet in offering to thee

You came and lay a cold compress upon the mess I'm in
Threw the windows wide and cried: Amen! Amen! Amen!
The whole world stopped to hear you hollering
You looked down and saw now what was happening

The lines are fadin' in my kingdom
Though I have never known the way to border 'em in
So the muddy mouths of baboons and sows and the grouse and the horse and the hen
Grope at the gate of the looming lake that was once a tidy pen
And the mail is late and the great estates are not lit from within
The talk in town's becoming downright sickening

In due time we will see the far butte lit by a flare
I've seen your bravery, and I will follow you there
And row through the night time
So healthy
Gone healthy all of a sudden
In search of a midwife
Who can help me
Who can help me
Help me find my way back in
And there are worries where I've been

And say, say, say in the lee of the bay; don't be bothered
Leave your troubles here where the tugboats shear the water from the water
Flanked by furrows, curling back, like a match held up to a newspaper
Emily, they'll follow your lead by the letter
And I make this claim, and I'm not ashamed to say I knew you better
What they've seen is just a beam of your sun that banishes winter

Let us go! Though we know it's a hopeless endeavor
The ties that bind, they are barbed and spined and hold us close forever
Though there is nothing would help me come to grips with a sky that is gaping and yawning
There is a song I woke with on my lips as you sailed your great ship towards the morning

Come on home; the poppies are all grown knee-deep by now
Blossoms all have fallen, and the pollen ruins the plow
Peonies nod in the breeze and while they wetly bow
With hydrocephalitic listlessness ants mop up their brows

And everything with wings is restless, aimless, drunk and dour
Butterflies and birds collide at hot, ungodly hours
And my clay-colored motherlessness rangily reclines
Come on home, now! All my bones are dolorous with vines

Pa pointed out to me, for the hundredth time tonight
The way the ladle leads to a dirt-red bullet of light
Squint skyward and listen
Loving him, we move within his borders
Just asterisms in the stars' set order

We could stand for a century
Starin', with our heads cocked
In the broad daylight at this thing
Joy
Landlocked
In bodies that don't keep
Dumbstruck with the sweetness of being
Till we don't be
Told take this
And eat this

Told the meteorite is the source of the light
And the meteor's just what we see
And the meteoroid is a stone that's devoid of the fire that propelled it to thee

And the meteorite's just what causes the light
And the meteor's how it's perceived
And the meteoroid's a bone thrown from the void that lies quiet in offering to thee

Joanna Newsom - Sadie

This is an old song, these are old blues
And this is not my tune, but it's mine to use
And the seabirds where the fear once grew
Will flock with a fury
And they will bury what'd come for you

And down where I darn with the milk-eyed mender
You and I, and a love so tender
Stretched on a hoop where I stitch this adage:
"Bless our house and its heart so savage."

Joanna Newsom - Monkey & Bear

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=thAunSuinVc

What is now known by the sorrel and the roan?
By the chestnut, and the bay, and the gelding grey?

It is: stay by the gate you are given
And remain in your place, for your season
And had the overfed dead but listened
To that high-fence, horse-sense, wisdom...

Did you hear that, Bear? Said monkey
We'll get out of here, fair and square
They've left the gate open wide!

So
My bride
Here is my hand, where is your paw?
Try and understand my plan, Ursala
My heart is a furnace
Full of love that's just, and earnest
Now; you know that we must unlearn this
Allegiance to a life of service
And no longer answer to that heartless
Hay-monger, nor be his accomplice
(that charlatan, with artless hustling!)
But; Ursala, we've got to eat something
And earn our keep, while still within
The borders of the land that man has girded
(all double-bolted and tight-fisted!)
Until we reach the open country
A-steeped in milk and honey

Will you keep your fancy clothes on, for me?
Can you bear a little longer to wear that leash?
My love, I swear by the air I breathe:
Sooner or later, you'll bare your teeth

FWIW orchestra arrangements on Emily and Monkey & Bear are done by Van Dyke Parks of Brian Wilson/SMiLE fame

That's How It Goes

When I woke up this morning
I saw the sun was shining in my door
I opened up my eyes and saw
I did not have to worry anymore
I'm going to let a little secret slip
It's not the destination, it's the trip
It's the moss you gather while you roll
Don't you know, that's how it goes

You've got to stop, look and listen
The message that you're getting is clear
You can't wait for Christmas
It's Christmas every day of the year
So count your blessings one by one
Welcome every rising sun
'Cause pretty soon your race is run
Don't you know, that's how it goes

I help you and you help me
That's the way the world should be
Tit for tat and give and take
Just be good for goodness sake
I'll pick you up if you should fall
It works both ways if it works at all
Hold in your heart the people you love
Always thank the powers above
Everyone deserves a share
So keep your promise, fair is fair

So gather 'round me people
And help me while I sing this song
I'd rather have you with me
Together as we travel along
It's the feeling of the wind in your face
The sound of the music they play
The friends you make along the way
Don't you know, that's how it goes

Don't you know, that's how it goes
Just so you know, that's how it goes

If you haven't yet listened, go do it now! They give me hope that the millennials might be able to carry the torch of what is good in humanity. Band is fronted by two sisters who are incredibly powerful singers/guitar players.
