David Byrne Tour 2018 ,,,Ummmm Fuck Yeah!

Forums:

Im so down for this,

http://davidbyrne.com/shows

Looks like just a few international fests and a couple east coast dates so far.

is that it?

what's the project?

is there a new album coming?

for the love of God, man, what??!!!

What kind of music?

All Whitney Houston covers?

He's in Waterbury March 9th (10 min away from me) I'll be in Cali for a Batmitzvah Aighhhhhh!

I'm assuming more shows,

last week only the 4 internationals were listed.

Argentina with Red Hot Chillies is calling me.

No Idea about Project, it's still showing "Love this Giant tour" but that would be w St Vincent

Hoping for a Afro-cuban Brass n Percussion band but that's probably not just me.

Album...who knows? I haven't heard a peep

At least his wacky website is vague as hell.

with Byrne, this tour could b anything, from a band like u described to a virtual reality lecture about bicycles.

freakin psycho genius, this guy.

sure would b unusual if there was no new album and he was actually just gonna play stuff from his already existing giant catalog like a normal aging rock star, but there's a first time for everything.

Buffalo?! ha

Yeah, it's some odd locations so far

Saw DB at the Count Basie in Red Bank probably 7-8 years ago.  He had a multi-piece ensemble onstage,  and performed an eclectic variety of music.  I'd go again,  without knowing what he has in store beforehand.

Unlike speculating on a Phil & Friends lineup,  I'm sure that it will be interesting, and he doesn't get out on the road all that often.  So I might take a ride out to Red Bank on Friday,  bring the Dog and get a few tixx.

Only if I can save TicketBastard fees,  of course.

No Idea about Project, it's still showing "Love this Giant tour" but that would be w St Vincent

No idea what music or style Mr. Byrne will be touring but I have heard that there is a island getaway festie co-curated by Byrne and St. Vincent coming up next season.

I think the last time I saw him was the Rei Momo Tour.

>>>I have heard that there is a island getaway festie co-curated by Byrne and St. Vincent coming up next season.

Where people dressed in eccentric clothing listening to progressive world best music ride bikes while throwing ducks at balloons and nothing is as it seems?

And He's playing super close to Me.

Bonus smiley

Where people dressed in eccentric clothing listening to progressive world best music ride bikes while throwing ducks at balloons and nothing is as it seems?

One would hope.

Guess I better make an addition to my Xmas list

hmmmm....

that week in March looking up...7-8 w bob and phil, and waterbury on 9 with db....

album due in March...

From FB:

East coast shows
Some months ago I went to Clair Bothers in Manheim, PA to test out tech for some new live shows. I had an idea that everyone in the band might be mobile… so there would be no risers, drum platform or any of that stuff. I’d experienced a taste of this on the tour I did with St. Vincent, where all the brass players were mobile.
With everyone mobile, I realized the stage could be completely clear. If we could have the monitors in our ears, the amps off-stage and the lights up high, then we had the possibility of a completely empty space.
The problem was that there are always a lot of people and gear around the periphery of a music show—amps, monitor mixers, stage hands looking bored, road cases, etc., which would be completely distracting—how to hide that stuff? A curtain or drape obviously, but as I might be doing outdoor venues then there arose the issue of wind and drapes or curtains. A relatively light wind can play havoc with cloth, and if you try and anchor it, you end up having made yourself a very large sail—big enough to pull down the entire rig.
In Vegas and some other places, lightweight chains have been used instead of curtains… so we looked at a sample. It seemed promising, so we tested it at scale, to see if it took light (it seemed possible that the light might go right through) and to make sure it didn’t interfere with the wireless transmissions—or the whole mobile idea would be impossible.
It worked. It takes color beautifully.
Not only does it take color, one can cast shadows on the chain.
The band and I will be testing all of this in front of a live audience during a small number of shows in the beginning of March. We’ll be doing some new songs… and many others that will, I assume, be familiar. I’m excited. This is the most ambitious show I’ve done since the shows that were filmed for Stop Making Sense, so fingers crossed.

Fire up the anti-gravity chamber

well this is cool

Easties (and Croats) get all the shows.

Interested to hear the new album.

thought the last one he did with eno was a masterpiece, even though I guess this next one is supposed to b nothing like it.

y'all hear that track eno made with the my bloody valentine guy a couple months ago?

it's pretty headphones, dark ambient fantastic: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=N2TB6GRdC6k

Will the brunette back up singer from last tour be back?

U mean st. Vincent?

probably not

Noice.

Will go to feel the byrne.

I also looked at the DB website attempting to decipher any clues toward the tour Pattern...

He mentioned that all of the Gigantic Stages are now built near Amish Country,  and gave a brief history of all that heading back to Franky Valli and the Four Seasons,  go check it for yourself.

So that is all we can tell for now.  Good enough for me.

I'll buy a ticket or two knowing that I'm part of a test run.

Jerseyland show is also about the first one in the Eastern run,  so it's totally a Sound Check.

Maybe we get Free  Ice Cream,  or Pie laugh

I'm sort of Jealous of the political Grooooupies  // Cultists who(m) are not really aware of David Byrne,  Talking Heads,  or any of that stuff.

It must be nice to have your head up the asss of a permanent talk show,  with bad music,  if any.  There must be Velour Hoodwinks,  and Glittery stuff they put on Circus Monkees,  Horses,  Rhinoceroses.

They probably give you free Valium and what's that other stuff,  Prozak.  That's what buys  "Votes"  in this day and age,  I suppose.

But then again,  I'd rather go see David Byrne  &  Band.

Hopefully they'll announce more dates and this will end up being the first time I see Byrne.

i did attend his interactive Neurosociety art exhibition earlier this year in Palo Alto that he concocted with a computer science guru lady with somewhat disastrous consequences.

At least I managed to convince the paramedics not to take me to the hospital.

true story.

E, did you try to sneak in?

I thought it was only jazz shows that you & hoover don't pay for anymore.

Security at all the interactive neurosociety art exhibitions I've attended have been pretty unforgiving.

Glad you survived.

E, my bad it was the tour before st vincent.

ANyone Redbank Pre-sale code?

Try CITY5

I'm looking for Palace Theatre promo code

Palace Theatre Promo code:  FEELINGS

Thank you MFN!

CITY5 no worky for Red Bank.

Anybody ??

Anyone,,,,? Red Bank

>>This is the most ambitious show I’ve done since the shows that were filmed for Stop Making Sense, so fingers crossed<<

would love to go if possible.

still one of the most powerful shows attended was 9/14/01...everything was so uncertain and it was the perfect place to be that night.

in 2004, drove straight home from The Dead run at Red Rocks and went to Navy Pier for David Byrne.

Red bank= Talking

Presale for Kirby center just started. Password is ROCK107

Thanks for the presale code in Red Bank.  Got a pair in the Balcony this AM;  there were no Loge seats at all.  Not sure if those sold out quick,  or there were none in the presale basket.

Seemed like an auspicious day to get DB tixx as 'Pink Talking Fish'  plays tonight at the Stoney Pony in Asbury.

They are a cover band from New England who play Pink Floyd,  Talking Heads,  and Phish tunes with segues and jams.  Never seen 'em before.  Best thing is that the ticket price is about the same as TicketBastard 'service fee' or about 15 bucks.

Hmm. imma try for red bank on my bday

And maybe PA~ this over Phil?

Hah! Our beloved Shakedown14 was just praising pink talking fishes this day

Got a tix to Palace Th W-Bury 3/9, have been wanting to go to this theatre since they renovated it like 10 years ago, they hardly ever have anything I'd want to see, & when they did, something else always came up.

Pink Talking Fish were good,  and played two nice long sets.  Go check 'em out on archive or wherever.

Just took a peek at TicketBastard site to see if the loges popped up,  they (red Bank) are all sold out.

Good thing I got in yesterday.

The PTF's lead guitar looks like Hugh Jackman,

so they got the Wolverine, X-Men thing going on, that's cool

And his fan keeps his hair blowing and flowing all night.

Other than that, their your basic professional cover band.

A good time

I'm in for the Hershey show, that's closest to me.

BOA you in??

If u guys like talking pink fish, u should definitely check out this underground band from Sacramento called psycho genius.

All they play besides their own original material is Byrne and zevon covers but they jam them in out in the collective improvisational style of the gd:

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=gjmSsF55GJA

Spaced on tix. Waterbury now sold out. Dangs.

Phil / Shapro should take notes on this,  re: how to sell out the Cap with an unknown lineup.

Just say David Byrne will be there.

So stoked to hear the next Byrne/Eno collaboration!

image_199.jpeg

which half of this music is good?

I'm super excited that he's touring this year. Hopefully more dates will be added. I saw him in 2009 and 2013 and both shows were so, so good. Hope he comes back to Red Butte this summer!

Looks like there is plenty of room in April and May for a more full-blown Tour.  These small-theater dates can't be all that profitable after all the expenses:  pay the band,  roadies,  fuel,  promoters,  hotels...  Plus the new stage equipment.

Count Basie holds about 1500,  Hershey 1900 seats,  Wilkes-Barre around 2000.  Kingston is about 1500.  Actually, I like that he's taking the show to all these beautiful theatres with cushy seats and ornate architecture.  Wish I could catch a few more of these,  just to see the vintage halls.

I can't believe that I saw Talking Heads 40 years ago (in a small Theatre,  Trenton War Memorial.)

pink talking fish, kung fu at Toads Place tmrw pm...toys for tots show...

He just announced coachella, hopefully more west coast dates to follow

I'm confident he will be at all major festies and have an extensive tour this spring/summer

Just added Camden 7/27 presale-Wednesday ( Code Anybody? ) public - Friday

All small venues Sold Out

Also Website has the new single to check out "Everybodys Coming to My House" sounds Nice!

http://davidbyrne.com

Horns n Percussion Oooohh Yeahhhh!!! I might not come back from this Tour,,,

I guess it was a busy night on the zone, bread recipes and all

Camden Password ?? Anybody??

Not too crazy about the new track but still can't wait to hear the rest of the album.

anybody catch any of that reasons to b cheerful lecture/presentation yesterday?

^^^The new song Live is gunna be FIRE!

The new tune is terrible. Still would go see him if he played within a 30 minute drive, but Red Bank sold out.

Passwords - you might want to sign up at the website above for possible presale passwords

>>>>the new tune is terrible

it's no 'burning down the house', hell it's not even 'daft punk is playing at my house'

^my 10 year old said it sounds like Panic at the Disco

I'm trying to  figure out the Camden NJ show,  looks like it is part of the WXPN Summer festival,  with some opening techno duo.

My guess is if you called up WXPN they might have more presale info but since it is their 'Exponential Music' deal they would know all about it.

Probably won't work too hard for this one,  as I'm not all that crazy for that venue.

Tickets go on sale this Friday at 10:00 am.

>>>6/22-23 Prague, Czech Republic Metronome Festival
6/25 Zagreb, Croatia INmusic Festival

We have tentative plans on being in Eastern Europe around then.  Never been to a European music fest before.

8/5 Canandaigua is a possibility for us.

Fuckin psyched

When do the 8/16 Fox theater oakland tickets go on sale?

Probably Friday

How bout codes... anyone got em for CMAC

 8/1 in Vermont ???

Hmmmmmmm....

Bet the VT show gets cancelled just like Furthur in 2010.

That is a freaking relentless schedule

cant get tired or sick - man oh man

Hi Fitzman,

How much are you betting ?

Bet the VT show gets cancelled just like Furthur in 2010.

How much are you betting ?

I want in on this action. :-)

>>>Bet the VT show gets cancelled just like Furthur in 2010.

...and you would be correct.

http://www.burlingtonfreepress.com/story/entertainment/2018/01/18/david-...

No biggy --

DB can find a suitable venue in Montréal  and satisfy the Vermont fans as well (Big City / Great Poutine)

He's  crossing the Border anyway to hit Toronto.

Wow.

That must be some stage set up to not be able to be handled at Shelburne. David Byrne has performed there a few times before so I figured there wouldn't be an problems.

I was wrong.

Maybe it's an excuse from the Shelburne Museum staff who,  perhaps,  just don't like David Byrne.

Like some Bake Shoppe saying "We would love to bake this Trisexual Wedding Cake for you,  but we're booked through Next Autumn already..."

Damn.

There goes the air out of that balloon.

I did a little checking and the cancelation was caused by production concerns only. Town and museum were all for it. My guess is with the multi-media presentation there was not enough juice to power everything. I also know that Shelburne Museum limits the amount of stand alone generation to limit the environmental impact to the grounds and flora. Put those things together and you have a cancellation because there is not enough electricity.

Thanks Furious E for the Heads-up.

The PDX and Eugene tixx go on sale Friday 10 AM & Noon.

I called people who might be interested and told them.  Judging from the Rapid eastern small venue sales,  they will go quick.

Told you so.

Wild Wild Life, Asheville 6/2013 w/ St Vincent

Here is what Byrne is talking about in terms of his idea of an open stage.  Not sure how he is going to handle the drums set up but it will make for a real interesting and exciting way to play for a crowd.  The interaction between the band members seems much more natural and intimate.

Here is one of my Favorite Byrne Boots - Denver 2001 (Sounds Great)

Keep yer ear open for one of his best rarities, track 4 Soft Seduction - intense ballad

Mauro Refosco master of percussion on the job

Enjoy!

Shut out of Red Rocks this morning. Fhuck.

No Florida dates, boo hisssss

Dang!

As soon as 10AM rolled along, my computer started buffering for what seemed forever (perhaps 5 minutes).

Feeling lucky that I got two balcony tix in Row U Balcony at the FOX.  Nosebleeds, but at least I'm in.

Another bucket-list gig for me.

I snagged some balcony seats for the Schnitzer.  Its a relatively small venue and no real bad seats in the house.  Glad I got what I got.  Was ready to hit "buy" when the clock struck 10:00, but then it was all lagging with the high demand and I was put in a virtual waiting room for a bit.  My original choice of seats was already sold out.

That was tough, but in for San Diego.

I could not pull a decent pair, but got a single in Orchestra Row J and then a single in Orchestra Row AA!

Ticket buying has only got worst these days.  Twice now for Robert Plant and David Byrne @ Fox Oakland.  Fucking bullshit!!!

Keep trying, Rob.

I just hit refresh a few times and the last available ticket I saw was a single for Row P, Seat 8. Way better than the 2 that I got, but I didn't pull the trigger.

I got nice upstairs box in Sacto.  At the place where the symphony plays.  Sometimes its good to live in the backwater.

Red Rocks went seemingly instantly with that "waiting Room" feature, I feel lucky to get row 41

My 1st Red Rocks!

Second show added at the Fox on sale at 11:00 - today - 5 minute warning

Now I'm in for the Friday 8/17 show at the Fox! This one was easier.

I scored a nice floor seat for the Portland show Memorial Day weekend, never been to Portland or seen Byrne so this has been a long time comin.

would love one of those standing GA tix for the fox if anyone comes across any.

i'm sure everyone that really wants to see a show on this tour will b able.

think I'll check out what tix r available for the Eugene show at noon.

b well, fuzzy freaky zone people

I got a rock...

Got 2nd row Mezzanine for the Hult Center,  woot woot!

Good work, Zooey!

Unfortunately, I was out and about with the next Fox date sale.

Regardless, I'm looking forward to a relatively rare music show date with my Honey.

Have fun, everybody!

Got front row in a mezz box for Eugene, looks like I'm doing Memorial Day weekend Oregon Byrne tour.

somehow it figures that it would come to this.

In for SB Bowl--nice having this toward the end of summer/end of tour.

Hall, did you try for the San Jose show? Tix still available for that one.

I tried for a good hour, Lance (and missed the second Fox show as a result).  AXS seems to be having some technical difficulties... it would let me pick seats, then it would not let me go further with various errors about either not finding my account or not being to create an account when I tried to do that with a different name and email addy  (and I don't think I'm the only one experiencing this since tix are still available).  Very frustrating.

just tried again and lo and behold, it worked (using my original login that it kept locking up on earlier).  Not crazy about this venue, but I've never seen DB so I guess it's now or maybe never.

GOING TO THE SHOW

This is gunna be 1 Hell of a Tour

Not just the number of shows but the Quality as well, really showin the business how its done

I got Red Bank Tour Opener

Camden 7/27

Red Rocks Tour Closer

Probably hit the DC shoe as well

I don't have any David Byrne solo stuff (only a few Heads' albums)... what should I be studying up on and where can I get some live shoes?

It's gonna b all about the new album, hall, which I'm a little nervous about cause I wasn't feeling that single he released from it.

i think his best solo albums are 'my life in the bush of ghosts', 'David Byrne', 'feelings', and 'everything that happens will happen today'.

as far as live post heads goes, this is a fav of mine: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=DUiUx4c6Imk

Thanks E, and thanks for the heads up on these shows.

I picked up tickets for me and King (aka Gilman) for the Red Rock shows. Can't wait!!

Sorry you got shut out, Mark. I went on about 9:15am to see if they had ticket prices listed and it threw me into a line with a count down for the sale. So, I was in about 45 minutes early to get the tickets. I had no clue they did that and lucked out apparently.

In for Rose Music Center outside of Dayton.

This venue gets rave reviews on accessibility.

Looking forward to it.laugh

Went down to the Asheville Civic Center box office and stood in line.

Dropped $145 for third row center.

Also Buy Grown Backwards a recent killer album

'Grown backwards' and 'look into the eyeball' r not my favs and I fear the new album might b more in that vein, although both of those releases definitely have their moments.

that vid is a cool live rec though and sigmund certainly deserves more props and credit than I've been receiving for this thread.

Check this out from the Public Theater in NYC the other night.

http://www.brooklynvegan.com/david-byrne-choir-choir-choir-covered-bowie...

They just added a second night for Red Rocks. Tickets go on sale Friday at 10am. I highly recommend getting in line an hour early on their webpage. They throw you in a queue so you just wait until 10am.

Nice gettin my Rocks off

Nice. Thanks for the heads up, Jen!

The bgca?

figured byrne's good taste and love of architecture would have prevented any tour stops at that venue.

i guess good for him for making sure everyone in the Bay Area who wants to see him will b able.

People only play here on the weekdays

I picked up some good tickets for the Chicago show.  I saw him do a set at Bonnaroo about 10 years ago and it was great.  I'm wondering if I should expect a 2 hour set and will it be meat in the seat?

I bet it will be meat in the seat but we are close to an aisle so maybe if the need arises I can spin.

I am right on the aisle.  From watching videos there seems to be a mix. I hate to be one of the only jackasses standing but this seems like a dance show more than a meater in the seater.

Scored front row of the balcony for the Ryman.

Looks like Im headed to Nashville in May for some hot chicken and hot music.

When he played the Flynn in '04 the first couple songs were seated. Someone yelled out 'Dave Shall we Dance?'. He leaned into the microphone and said 'You must' to tremendous applause. I would suggest this, it went over really well and he seemed to really enjoy himself much more from that point forward :)

There was also a second Boston show added it looks like!

Great video of David Byrne singing David Bowie's "Heroes" with choir of total strangers from this month,  https://www.facebook.com/DBtodomundo/videos/773674606160856/

“We have six drummers and percussionists,” says Byrne, 65, who envisions a stage full of musicians in constant, choreographed motion, expanding a concept he and St. Vincent used for the horn section on their joint 2012 tour. “The human beings become the set.”

Buckle Up, Buckaroos!!!

"choreographed motion" = "down in front"

Way Over Hype ! yeah the Talking Heads are Cool but...... SB Bowl prices? and availability .. See ya.

id pay for 5 of these shows before id drop one cent on Deadco.

I heard the new tracks were bad.

My DB tixx for opening night were less costly than deadCo or most of the PLF shows lately.  Could have charged more $$ and still sold out almost immediately, but seems like DB wanted to keep it reasonable.

New track out, much different than the first.

thought provoking and a little dark.

heavier shades of eno.

still not over the moon for it but like it a lot more than the first.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=my2lboGXQ7I

I need a Waterbury ticket. I know one of you have one. PM me.

I just scored a Ticket for Red Bank from a friend! So psyched!!!

Wow, Opening show of a massive US/Euro Tour. How auspicious!!

Any Zoners wanna meet up at Dublin House for pre-game @ 6:00 pm? lmk...

As I feared and suspected, the new album sounds more like 'grown backwards' and 'look into the eyeball'  than my preferred solo efforts of his.

however, I think this album is more consistent overall than either of those.

it's pretty modern sounding, almost futuristic with full range of Byrne's quirky vocals and lyrics  on display.

should b a very trippy experience at concert volume with a theatrical stage show.

it's a little short but at least that means the concerts should b at least 50% older material.

I don't like his vocals.

Then this is not the album for u, like I said, they're in full effect on this one.

Here's an excerpt from Byrne interviewing himself circa stop making sense

Byrne (dressed as an old man): "u don't have a very good voice but you're a singer, how do u do that?

Byrne (dressed as stop making sense era David Byrne): "The better the singer's voice is, the harder it is to believe what they're saying. So I turn my weaknesses into an advantage."

His old vocals aren't bad. It's the way his voice has aged and the more nasally result that happens to some of these old guys.

Female vocals age better.

I will go on record saying that I have never walked away disappointed from a David Byrne show, both with Talking Heads and solo. I'm sure I won't be disappointed once again. This show will be a strange one for me these days as I am not photographing it. I will be watching and taking notes though. That way when I hopefully photograph a show deeper into the tour, I will know the spots when I can get good click.

Red Rocks night 1 =Fuckin Magical
