that’s cool

Once you get a little..

I’m listening to 2/15/09 right now. This show never gets old. IMO this band’s strongest year.

^^^ Bss, I agree that 2009 was definitely a peak year for DNB... ahhh, those were some FUN times

I believe these upcoming TXR gigs will be the first back-to-back 2-set DNB shows since David returned to the stage in late October 2017 following his untimely shoulder injury (and the subsequent discovery of other health issues) which happened in Sept. 2016

IMO, David definitely showed more stamina at the recent DNB gig at TXR (on 3/10) than at any time during his "comeback" ... he charged right through the setlists, played with renewed focus and energy, resurrected a couple rarely played DNB songs (and nailed 'em!), and played a double encore without taking a long break!

David. is. BACK.

High Adventure ahead, folks.

Bring it back East please.

High Adventure Come Soon !!!

Fomo...

Seeing the boys with the rustlers tonight. Shabazzz and a possible gdad appearance.

Great news, we are so lucky!

It would be great to see everyone and hear some quality drug Nelson band musics...

Yeah BSS, I was lucky to get several great birthday shows.

20140216_024255.jpg

Turts and Googs, would be great to see you at the shows.  Turts, plan on staying here and riding with us. You too BSS.   Will be coming home after each show.

hmmm :)

i thought the band was smoke in '14 before the fall.

Very kind of you mark, I appreciate it. Coming down from Oregon though, it’s just way too much car time in two days. I’ve got to stay in walking distance. We’ll sesh it up & I’ll supply all the live rosin y’all can smoke. Much love

Got tix on Sun. when I found out about the shows on the Zone, 5 days after they went on sale (don't read the Zone every day these daze). Surprised they were still available. Now gotta fig. out where to stay and how to get there - train, plane, or automobile, Anyone driving from/through Oregon that I can go with? Or, conversely, anyone need a ride from OR and wants to share my car? Bss, do you need a ride or rider? I got gas $$$. My Email is:  justrich "at" casco.net.

Why these DNB shows don't sell out immediately is a mystery to me.

Their recent 3/10 TXR show had David in better form than I've seen him in a few years. His guitar playing was spot-on, and vocals were confident and clear. Pete sang Lazy River Road as good as a person can. Molo was also perfect and fun. Sless was Sless, of course.

See you there in April!

>>>Why these DNB shows don't sell out immediately is a mystery to me.

https://vivalazone.org/other-stuff/pretty-much

....because I'd have to take 2 days off of work and fly down, perhaps? if the shows were Fri / Sat, different story.

Bump for DNB.

Paging Bss - any room in your car? See E-mail in my last post above if so.

Otherwise I'll drive my car or fly. Hope to see a bunch of you DNB freaks there.

Excited for these shows. Will be tons of fun.

This is just so extremely exciting for me! I've been waiting for them to announce more than one show in a row (because of the distance). Haven't been in California since the Chinese New Years/Mardi Gras/Valentine's Day shows, 33 years ago. My daughter is even coming with me! Woo hoo!!!

It's also going to be my first time at TXR. I know Phil will be in NOLA, but so what. Maybe it's sacrilegious to say it on this board, but at this point, I'd rather see my current favorite band, the mighty DNB!!!!!!!

Sure it's three thousand plus miles away from my home.

Well I might take a train
I might take a plane
But even if I have to walk
I'm goin' just the same
I'm going to TXR

Thursday DNB shoe here I come.

Looking forward 2 seeing left coast zoners.  & DNB.

smiley

Dunno how many more trips left on the merry-go-round....

I will see you there, my brothers and sisters.

Love hearing that east coasters are traveling for this! Have a great time.

Welcome, all interlopers!  smiley

Just checking in here, it’s been a minute! Surfdead, as of right now I am a passenger with some other folks. I am so glad to see so many folks coming out for these gigs.

I’m consciously trying not to have to miss any more David Nelson band shows if at all possible. Logistically, it can be difficult and obviously costly. Just been thinking hard lately about holding summer 95 tickets and the music that never was, and how something I loved so much can just *disappear* so quickly. Life is too short, and this is the music that moves me on a cellular level. How many drinks from the cup does a man get?

shoulda

coulda

woulda

Besides, Jerry and Walt will be there in spirit.

anyone record the last show?

not on the archive...

Surfdead are you still looking for a rider / driver?

I can go, I found a boat cabin to rent 5 min walk from TXR too.

Could train or bus to a meeting place south of Portland?

LLOLLO - just sent you an Email.

Thanks Surfdead!

Got my 2-day pass, wheeeee!

YAY!!

Wow, this 2-day run is shaping up to be a BIG rockin' zoner par-tay

if somebody were to plan and organize a pre-game get-together on Thursday, I'll bet at least a dozen Maniacs would show up... maybe reserve a table for 15 at 5 pm??

looking forward to connecting with new and old interlopers, as well as the usual NorCal freaks

High Adventure ahead!

looking forward.

thanks BB!

Maybe, but salmon season just opened the 13th and it closes may 1-17th.  Got to get that pink meat.  I'm going again Thursday.  Who knows, maybe a salmon bbq pre-party in the lot or somewhere.  My fish will be better than anything they serve at TXR I guarantee.   Maybe use my carcasses to catch some crab too.   I could dig some clams this afternoon and make a big chowder.

This was the salmon opener in Shelter Cove saturday in 7ft seas.  Only 5 kayakers launched 3 got 1 fish and I had the biggest ofcourse.  :)

Garyfish, I like your idea. Where should we meet?

Fish on!

You fish murdering bastard !!

Oops sorry, I channeled jonas for a second there.

I would join! Are you reserving the long table(s) at TXR?

Let's get a roll call going!

I'm kinda nostalglic for a pre-game tailgate.  How about the carpet store back lot?

It looks like my mom in San Rafael is dying imminently so I will most likely be there for these shows. I’ve been at TXR for DNB shows at some other meaningful times (thank you all again for that beautiful birthday dinner/Greg memorial with DNB). Some of you met my mom there. So, I guess this is another example of the joys of DNB and TXR when I least expect them.

MATANASKA -- Are you coming to one or both of the shows? Sounds like you're offering to provide some of your world-famous salmon and other seafood delicacies! Please check in here with your plans for these shows, so we can really move ahead with some pre-gaming action.

I kinda like Walstib's suggestion about doing our own pre-game feed-fest in the lot. Anybody know if tailgating and BBQ is frowned upon or prohibited in the TXR valet lot? If so, I suppose the carpet store back lot would work if we got started early enough.

Judit, it made my day to see you on the roll call.... music got me through similar family passages, to be sure.

Garyfish! Here’s an opinion from a regular about pre-show lot activities :

“The lot there is weird.  They sometimes won’t let you in unless you’re there for dinner and have a reservation. Then other times no problem.  They do have security roaming around.  So doubt you could stand out there drinking.  Jill wants you inside drinking her expensive drinks. But you can sit out back at the tables.  But honestly don’t really know.  Never tried it.  They don’t bother you standing on the side smoking.”

...and a follow-up comment: “I can’t say for sure since I’ve never tried it.  But I seriously doubt that would fly at any bar and restaurant.   But especially one as uptight as TXR.   Although there is a park next door and parking there that’s not part of TXR. Not sure how that works.”

hope this helps w/ decision making!

The Park Lot might be the answer... anyone know more about that?

How many beers do y'all need to slam before the show?

you're supplying? awesome! ;)

2 boont ambers, please.

>How many beers do y'all need to slam before the show? <

3-4...

if you get there suuuuper early you don't have to deal with the valet bullshit. can hang in the car or around fine before the main security gets there.

the parking is a fucking shit show. i don't understand why they don't put up a lot full sign at the edge of the road, instead you have to make a dangerous left on a busy street, only to find out its full.

there's not very many places to actually park. i think last time we were like 2 hrs before the show and ended up walking a mile...pretty unaccepatble, being many people are older and can't walk a damned mile.

also, they double book shit. some dumb 70's bar night is going on while there is a show booked in the grate room. where are the people that paid $45 for the show supposed to park?

Someone I met told me that if you make a dinner reservation at terrapin, there also becomes a reserved parking spot with your name on it.

This same person once parked, went to the bar for a drink, and this immediate drunkenness caused him to forget all about his dinner reservation. And so he just went to the show instead. YMMV.

The park "lot" isn't a lot, it's just parking along one side of the dead-end road behind the Grate Room leading to the yacht club. There's room for about 15 - 20 cars, but those can be hard to get as many are taken by the Toyota & Nissan workers and various local miscreants.

If you do get one of those spots I've never seen any hassle at all for any sort of debauchery that goes on back there. Folks will also end up parking on the other side of that road along the edge of the berm, but the police occasionally ticket those. That's seems to be totally random, but who wants to take a chance on that?

I virtually never park in the main lot so I'm not sure, but if you do get through the "valet bullshit" and park in the main lot I don't think the uniformed security roams around out there, so unless you're shooting guns or fighting I doubt there would be any hassles about hanging out drinking a few beers.

And what's the matter Turtle, people don't have to make left turns where you live? You're complaining about THAT? It seems that folks are getting desperate for things to complain about.

If you can't get a spot behind the venue and you can't get into the main lot there is a lot Gary mentioned just down the main road behind the City Carpets store and a strip mall. I believe that TxR pays for those spaces, it's about a 5 - 7 minute walk to the venue from there.

5 - 7 minutes??? Oh the pain!!!!

And yes, if you're turned away from the venue parking you do have to turn left back onto the busy main road to get to that lot, but there is a suicide lane so it's not THAT difficult.

I have faith in your SoCal driving skills Turtle.

I dunno, the tailgate idea is sounding like too much work. Who is taking charge of getting there early enough to grab a spot and communicate to others where that spot is?

Maybe a backup reservation should be made at TXR? Or somewhere very close by?

I assume you have traversed the area during local rush hour? its a busy area.

my complaint is, they have multiple things going on without adequate parking, signage or directions.

i think its reasonable if you came to see an 8 o'clock show to be able to get there at 7 and park. Between dining reservations...bar room theme nights, and the grate room, it's packed. if the lot is full, there should be signage stating so. if there ARE spots down the road by a carpet place, how does one know this? there isn't anything on the website, and the lot attendant Alex doesn't seem to disseminate that info. Mark has parked down the road by the stores/whole foods or something. Either way, it is unclear. Also, you do not know its full until you pull all the way into the lot. Its a clusterfuck.

while i understand that running a venue is a difficult task, it seems venues rarely look at their situation from the patron's point of view.

Heathen fills in some of the gaps

Occasionally security walks through the lot but that’s usually after a show has started And I have not seen them harassing someone sipping on a beer

My observation is a few small “tailgates“ or hanging out by your car is not a big deal

If someone were raging it’s possible one of the staff members might drop by to influence chilling out a little   And I have observed that happening a total of one time

The lot isn’t that big of a challenge and even less it’s not sold out  Also if You arrive after valet service has begun and the valet parks your car you can go with them and ask for your key at that time - also a perfect time to give them a small two dollar tip or more if you’re so inclined

I also have been known to sip of beer at the carpet city parking lot. Very rarely parking on the berm or in the red zones will garner a ticket. It’s a small crapshoot and I have parked there a few times

Occasionally the nearby workers will leave and open up one of those coveted  spots on the side road Which is right next to the Terrapin Park formally an abandoned lot and now all spruced up by the Proprietors  I prefer the shows there they have a driver but that’s a personal preference perhaps

If it’s super crowded with a popular bar band and great room band at the same time yes it is possible to make a dinner reservation to ensure a parking spot  Either way I suspect some of you Zoner maniacs Will be reserving a table of two so you can enjoy each other’s company   I very infrequently eat there but the food is decent

If you’re making a rare pilgrimage to Mecca from afar you probably should do the full boat

Speaking of boats ....That would be a pretty sweet spot to tailgate right there at the dock by the venue

Sip the nectar of the gods while you can

Long live rock ‘n’ roll

long live maniacs

Okay, who has access to a barge or a boat, LOL?

I'm renting an AIR BnB cabin on a boat at the marina just 5 minutes' walk east of TXR, but I"m definitely not allowed to host a dozen guests...though would love to!

Anyone know anyone?  How cool would it be to tie up at the TXR doc?

From TXR website, sheesh!

BEACH PARK

While Beach Park is not a private event space, it is certainly a wonderful environment to host a causal party for family and/or friends. The kids will enjoy the playhouse and ship play structure, there are three beautiful fire features and three bocce courts. This is a casual atmosphere with laid back service that is perfect for a kids birthday party, a book club gathering, or even just getting friends together fro one more Saturday night!

$350 park picnic table, up to 35 people, $750 park couch area, up to 60 people.

*Beach Park is unavailable for private events November - February

So did the idea of reserving long table(s) get dropped and I just missed that? I haven’t found the food to be that great there but it’s very convenient.

I usually go to Picante on Bellam (east of E. Francisco) for Mexican food before going to TXR but the idea of getting together with a bunch of folks in an easy way sounds good to me.

Hi Judit! I think a TXR reservation is still on the table, but no one (Garyfish?) has taken action yet.  Seems like the idea of a tailgate activity made our discussion go off on a tangent, LOL.

I'm off to acupuncture -- and good with whatever is decided if that happens in the next 45!

That Picante place looks like good food. Beers are probably half as much as TXR.

I virtually never park in the main lot so I'm not sure, but if you do get through the "valet bullshit" and park in the main lot I don't think the uniformed security roams around out there, so unless you're shooting guns or fighting I doubt there would be any hassles about hanging out drinking a few beers.

IME the txr staff and security are actually around the building and in the lot looking for people drinking beers - its a liquor licensing issue however, they are not looking to "clean up the riff raff" or anything like that, they just dont want issues with the city. i dont really drink alcohol but i do smoke cannabis and pull out my little dropper bottle of liquid openly and generally look like an absolute psychedelic trainwreck and i never have any problems - since those things are illegal or largely unregulated, the city isnt coming after them about it and they dont seem to care - but god forbid i walk out the door w a glass of water, lest it be some sort of alcohol and they could incur fines or regulatory penalties.

sorry about your mom judit, peace to you and her.

will be nice to finally meet you :)

looking forward to seeing everyone.

the shared dining deal can be difficult herding groups of cats. i'd suggest a roll call for that if that's what's desired but maybe the biggest group they accommodate is a dozen? i'm not sure.

the open containers on the property makes sense daylight. it is a business and not a gd lot....

and while there are things to complain about as there always is, and i'm good at it....its been a huge blessing having phil open his own music venue. who would have thought 30 yrs ago? love you all.

Herding cats, indeed!

Is anyone interested in a group table reservation at TXR on Thursday at 5:30? I will make a reservation for either the big round table(s) or the long table(s) if there is enough interest.

Turtle, really looking forward to finally meeting you.

I've been at a couple of big dinner gatherings at TXR, like maybe 25+ people... food can be slow with big groups, but 5:30 will work with that in mind.

I sent an email to TXR requesting a big round table for 6 to 8 people, so we can include more than the 3 who have signed up so far.

We can always add more tables if more than 8 want to join us.

Looking forward to seeing you all ❤️

Thanks Zooey, looking forward to meeting everyone.

I finally got a confirmation that my reservation was modified. The TXR reservation system is not too user friendly. You have to talk to a person to make a reservation for more than 6, or to modify or cancel a reservation - and talking to a person is nearly impossible!  You also have to give them a credit card number to hold a large table - supposedly a $50 penalty if we do not show up. I think we will show up!

It does not seem that they are guaranteeing lot parking, but if we get there before 5:30 there should not be a problem.

I made the reservation for 10, but we have space for 12 - so we can add a couple more people.

See you Thursday!

The remaining spots may be taken by a distinguished group of former Zoners. Film at 11:00...

thanks zooey!

Sorry, brightday, but I already promised all the spots at the table. We would love to have you join us if anyone can't make it Thursday.

Would anyone like to start another big table?

Or you can make a reservation for a small table nearby here:

That's OK Zooey, I would probably be late for that anyway.

Also, my daughter will be visiting the area for the first time, & probably wants to see other places besides TXR...

Anyone have suggestions of cool things to do on a short visit?

Or, care to recommend some nice clean vegan food in the city &/or Marin?

Thanks heart

Love to see you BeNice!

MORE = MERRIER! heartyeslaugh

brightday - check out sol food, its only a few min away and they have a good amount of veg/vegan options, although im a meat eater so not sure if there are any hidden animal products or cross contamination type things happening, but if its a hip restaraunt in the bay area chances are they have some truly vegan options.

when i go i usually get a combo plate with meat, beans, rice, salad and plantains - they do have a vegan option wihch replaces meat w/ avocado and lowers the price. tbh the best part is the rice+beans with their vinegar based hot sauce so you are still getting the goods. IME its the freshest and most well prepared, reasonably healthy food for the price in the area - you can get some good stuff at txr or nicer sit down restaraunts, but that sort of thing never fits into my schedule for a concert day - i need something i can grab and GTFO.

its open late and generally easy food to eat when you are tripping balls FWIW. fridays and saturdays they are open late enough to go after most txr shows and it is frequently filled with the heads who just left txr and occasionally the preformers.

Sol Foods works for vegans. They usually have at least one vegan special (lentil stew, for example) in addition to the regular menu - black bean/plantains/salad combo good. Heavy garlic dressing on the salad.  Definitely worth the wait, but you can also grab to go next door if you’re in a rush.

We might swing by on Friday before the show, depending on arrival time.

I would love to return to SOL food post-show either night. Love that place.

Yes, sol food is great!  You lucky Zoners and Zoneretts are making me jealous, have a wang dang doodle of a time  devil

Was wondering where to eat on Fri. pre-show. Never been to Sol Foods, but I may give it a try, unless I end up cooking and/or eating with the folks I'm staying with.

Or post-show.

My mom died yesterday evening following a rather rapid decline after steadily deteriorating. She was a true kick-ass mom.

She and my dad liked Picante (San Rafael), I'll most likely go before the show on Friday, good simple Mexican food, no scene, inexpensive.

BeNice, it would great to see you. If you see lyz around GV, you can let her know that you know about our mom.

Love to all.

its the quintessential TXR restaurant, surfdead. last time i was there for DNB the txr bar was still going after the show, but barry and molo were eating ribs and chicken at sol food. the txr dining room is for large pre show dinner reservations, and custies. the wait at sol food is long and seating is minimal so large groups are not doable unless its not very busy. sometimes they have a line halfway down the block.

really sorry to hear about your mom judit. all the best, hope these shows give you what you need!

>>>>sometimes they have a line halfway down the block.

For burritos?

Oh Judit, you,Lyz and your family are in my thoughts and love. You have  been a good friend this past year and I will reach out to Lyz here in town.

I have work guys coming to the house tomorrow and Thursday,so will have to miss seeing you all.

Thanks for the music that keeps us ALL loving humans.

Judit, very sorry to hear the news.  It’s good you will be among friends and music at this time.

I am so sorry, Judit heart

I'm sorry for your loss Judit.

Sol Food is overpriced and overrated imo.

My Dearest Judit. I am so sorry to hear of your Mother's passing. My grieve is for you & your pain. I believe that your Mom has transcended into another plane & is still with us, watching & protecting.

I remain always yours.

My condolences for the loss of your Mom, Judit. Looking forward to seeing you.

That sucks, BeNice. Was hoping to see you.  Friday out also?

Not too late China-Rider.  Get your ass out here.

Anyone know if Todd and Mel are coming from Montana?

This is going to be fun.

So sorry to hear about your mom, Judit. She's at peace now, and I hope you can find some peace in the music.

Sending you hugs, Judit.

Please let me know if I can help in any way up here in Oregon.

heart

Sorry for your loss, J.

((( MOM ))) Fare Thee Well ...

Judit

DNB and Zoners: just what the doctor ordered! Thank you.

I'm in a good place, relieved that her life is over without further pain or weirdness, as are my sisters. Really, I'm fine.

right on judit.

sure you will get some love from the show attendance as well.

i'm close to off the clock, and excited.

It's looking like my yard work is getting done by mid morning tomorrow.

So now I can come!

Zooey, will there be room at the "Kids Table" ?

Looking forward to getting some Zonner hugs.

Good news, Be Nice!

Someone buy BudBoy a brew.

Checking in!  We are almost to Ukiah.

I can recommend Surfdead as a highly entertaining road trip buddy!

Safe travels all.

We're in for tonight.

Just received a TXR email...tickets still available for both nights...

Night won, have fun out there. little jealous here.

Dynamohum? I’m swooning.

Special guest?

Thinking of ya all and enjoying the great vibes from afar. THIS is what make the Zone great. Wish I was there to meet some quality humanoids and enjoy some high times.

That was fun! Seeing so many Zoners/ex-Zoners again or for the first time, lovely. (Be Nice, it was special that you could make it, and I totally get that the music can be too much, open one's heart too far. Sorry you had to leave, you were missed.) Thanks again for wrangling the cats, Zooey, good job!

DNB was DNB, rolling slower first set, rocking second set. Those guys! Special guest Chris Robinson seemed like he was having a good time and the band did, too. Someone else will have to post the set list.

Let's do it again!

First shoe

It made me happy to see everyone’s smiling faces at that enormous dining table...great way to begin the night.

of course, my favs were Portland Women (naturally), Suite @ Mission and Rainmaker.

Fabulous show last night!!!!!!! Go David!

Agreed that was big fun last night!!  Damn those boys give me a happy workout.  So lovely to mingle with you delightful folks.

GFish.. have any set list requests you'd like to see this evening?  Bring on night two.

Moving right along ... Eagle breeders waltz ... Henry * !!

See everyone in the lot?

The music last night (night 2) was intense, magical, so much fun! Long sets, great songs, long jams. Happy smiling rocking dancing.

Someone else could easily post a more detailed report.

I thank all of you for the support and love I got over the last 2 nights - music also holds us together.

I'm still trying to reconstitute parts of my melted brain.

Good fun!

Some scattered thought:

Fun times for sure and sweet  music. love this band so much, and TXR is a fine venue. probably will be back for the Infamous String Dusters.

What was the the song Mookie sang that sounded like a sea shanty?

Woman next to to me asked

‘who is that guy on guitar?!’

you mean Barry Sless?!, I replied

‘Yes, he’s better than David Nelson!’

No, just different, I said. Barry is like Jerry, David is like Bobby - trying to put it all in context.  Asked her if she’s seen the band before

‘once, 40 years ago’

One person commented that they didn’t have the energy for the show after the previous night - if the old geezers in the band can keep up the high energy 2 nights in a row, so can you.

Anyhow, great to see everyone and especially David Nelson rocking out and sounded as good as ever.

Great fun! Nice being with friends family and zoners new and old.

With out the great community we'd be left with just a kickass Rock & Roll band...

ha

C'mon people bump my thread to 200...

Fine. I’ll help

just don’t ask me to hold your drink devil

^^^ in appreciation for you holding my drink, I offer this:

>>> What was the the song Mookie sang that sounded like a sea shanty?

I believe you're referring to "Tear-Stained Letter," a song infrequently played by DNB

I love everybody I know...

no exceptions

Here's a vid of "Tear Stained Letter" live with Jo-El Sonier and Richard Thompson:

Hello.

I have had the pleasure to attend many DNB shows & many more TRX shows & I believe that Friday night's show was the most pleasurable one I have attended. The music & friendship was overpowering. Literally enough to bring emotion to me. I went to the club on Thursday night just for the pregame activities but did not stay for the show & it was fun but last night was very special for me.

Thank you to all who helped make me so happy. It totally renewed my interest in TXR.

Another David Nelson Band show (Thursday) another pair of broken glasses.

I always wear reading glasses on a lanyard around my neck, and all the hugging at DNB shows destroys them, every damn time.

I'm not normally a big hugger so I forget to take them off, but there are always all these cool people at DNB shows and I feel compelled to hug it out.

Good thing I buy the cheap ones.

It was great seeing so many familiar folks, and I know there were a bunch more there who I didn't see/get the chance to add to the destruction.

I like the band, but more than the music I like the crowd & the party that DNB shows always provide.

Hopefully there will be more soon and I'll need to buy more glasses again.

It's money well spent.

Thanks, Garyfish. And holding the drink was easy, having the self control not to take a sip after 5 minutes was the difficult part. Already had one margarita,  and that’s my limit, unless I’m holding a top shelf margarita and the ice is melting as quick as my willpower.  Much easier  for me to hold a beer or any other cocktail, and not be tempted.

Lovely to see you all. That was some fun, right?

Fun fun fun!

Back home and re-integrating my mind after getting it blown at TXR for two nights in a row. Those boyz can still bring it! Played most of my fav. tunes really well. David looked and sounded great, and he played a lot more guitar than in the recent past. How does Barry play so many beautiful notes and never hit a clam? Pete was a monster - sounded like he was channeling Jack C. at times. Moooookie was his usual soulful self with the keys, and Molo was Molo!

Perhaps even more satisfying was being with all you great folks. It was great road-tripping with LLollo and seeing Benice, Judit, and all the rest of you freaks. DNB  has the Best Audiences Ever! No chatty Cathys. When the music got quiet you could hear a pin drop. Tall folks were letting the more altitudinally challenged stand in front of them.

Time to patch my bones, but already thinkin' about the next ones. Harvest? Hawaii? One can only hope.

Hey all... back at work after this fun quick trip. Wish I could've hung out with ya'll for many more days!

Going to post my photo essay soon after I finish downloading best images.  back later.

Here's my version of DNB weekend. Happy to share hi-res versions of these images -- my email is in my profile.

I met up with Surfdead in Corvallis... where we took a small winding road to the coast route. These pics are from Port Orford, OR and Crescent City, CA:

1_coast1_0.png2_coast2.png

On show day, Surfdead dropped me off at the San Rafael Marina, where I had booked an AirBnB cabin on a boat -- only 8 min walk from TXR!  Met my boat host, relaxed in the sunshine on the deck, then walked to meet all the Zoners.. first people I ran into were (surprise!) Quinn the Eskimo and Mrs Quinn, and the lovely Zooey is in this shot too. Can't remember the name of the Zoner on the left... anyone?  Looking to the right, I saw Surfdead, Mark D, and Johnny D!

3_QuinnZooey.png       4_SurfMarkJohnny.png

....and here is a shot of the entire table....I had fun sitting on the other side of GaryFish, right in the middle. If someone wants to notate the image w/ all the names, I'd appreciate that. The next image is of our fearless leader Judit, collecting funds at the end of the meal...with Turtle at the right corner...

Now that boat had some issues, so Surfdead rescued me on Friday and I crashed at his brother's house in Pt Richmond, for which I'm very grateful. We took a walk to the top for the amazing views, eucalyptus trees (miss those) and found this message on one of those trees.

Nice review and photos, Llollo - it was great to see you and all the DNB ohana heart

Great to see all you happy people enjoying a time with DNB at TXR!  Nice pictures LLOLLO!

Nice pics Zooey.

Nice pics, Llollo and Zooey. Shows and meet-up were big fun.

Llollo, your package (one of two) should arrive this afternoon.

Hello friends. Back behind the orange curtain. fun seeing all the usual suspects, and finally getting to meet Judit and Quinn! Super cool. Nice dinner with BeNice and the whole gang.

I thought the shows were very good. trying to collect myself from 5 days of subpar sleep. visited a friend after the shows and its always nice being up in the mtns and north coast. rivers were pumping! so gorgeous...weather was glorious as well.

nelson played and sang well. 1st night highlights eagle breeders > snakebit. what pete does out of eagle breeders, i don't know. its gnarly. different level shit. ragged but right was nice to see as well. CR did well sitting in and i love HENRY, both of them.

2nd night, the whole setlist cooked from top to bottom. sweet melinda thru hand jive was hot. as was KICK> armeggedon to open the 2nd set.

nice to see david up to a 2 dayer...i waved as he left the second night being driven home as he looked out the window. god bless david nelson.

special thanks as always to my road buddies and enablers, mr. gfish and mr. markd, i LOVE you people so much.

all kinds of zoners, old and new. even a tore up and and nanc! :)

this band has been for me, almost as influential as the grateful dead. it's been real fun gang. hope there is more down the road.

i love everybody i know.

Thanks Surfdead for the quick mailing!

Thanks Turtle, for the best read on this thread!

nice to meet you as well llollo!

also, as i noted opening of 2nd night, a very appropo lyric of the opening number...six to one, "i woke up this morning went right back to bed"...

i did as well...

It was wonderful seeing everyone on Thursday at TXR.A pleasure to meet you Llolloo! And great photos.Judit and Zooey superb job at the cat  feed herding.

It was a good decision that I bailed on going to show. When I saw that DNB did "Henry" the second set....y'all would have had to get me a wheel chair.

Love, peace and happy trails to everyone.

I'm sorry that I didn't spend as much time with you than I wanted, but I'm glad that you took care of yourself.

Grief is going to do what grief does.

Yes Johnny D,so true.

no worries,I graduated now from Judit's "Grief 101" class .Crying and laughing in equal proportion!

it's Spring and  time for life as it comes and goes.

oooh! thanks BudBoy!

That 4/25 link is a dud.

Last night, it was just a text set list.  Tonight there is a no el worko error message.

4/26 sounds mighty fine, tho'.

Thanks!

More Nelson this Sat @ Warfield opening for Melvin and the JGBs. Also a special tribute to Gloria Jones...

https://www.melvinsealsandjgb.com/

I plan on prowling around the good ol' Warfield Theater on Saturday night.

Should be fun.

Forgot to ask this last weekend: Any buzz on a DNB Hawaii booking?

Will that ever happen again?  I missed out.

Just dropping this here:  David Nelson's guest spot on the Big Steve Hour yesterday :  ftp://ftp.hostedftp.com/~Talesfromthegoldenroad/Tales-2019/Big%20Steve%2...
