Grateful Dead on Derby Day

Forums:

I saw the Grateful Dead on Derby Day 3 years in a row, '89, '90, '91. (Frost Amp, Carson, CA and Cal-Expo).

They played The Race Is On at each show, only times I saw that song. (After '81 it was only played 6 times).

It was a really fun way to give a nod to Derby Day and hearing something we didn't see at every show.

(and Garcia seemed to enjoy singing backup on it; he was pretty vocally expressive on this).

Frost was great with a ripping, rare (for that time) first-set ending China-->Rider, and a long second set.

At Carson, the show began with Let The Good Times Roll, Race Is On, Help-->Slip-->Franklin's. Woah!!!!

(this show was so packed and oversold that they eventually stopped letting people in, even if they had tickets).

At Cal-Expo we were on the rail between Bob and Jerry, and that was always a blast.

Fun times on the first Saturday of May!

Right on Rob, hope you are feeling well and enjoying the day.

The audience recording that I have of that 2nd set on May 5, 1990 was/is in my longtime favorite lists of CASSETTE listens.

Interesting stuff. I got 3 outta 6 myself with the local Carson show. Being a senior in HS, was super bummed to miss the frost. I believe they were during the week.

Was at Dominguez Hills and CalExpo. At Dominguez Hills(Way fucking HOT!!!)  met a couple young ladies that told me about Cubensis.
