Has someone hit your car w/o leaving a note b4?

Forums:

A little less than a month ago my neighbor backed into my car and didn't leave a note. The paint from the fender of my car had transferred to her bumper so while I didn't see her hit my car personally it was obvious someone hit my car with her car. lol.I took pictures of the damage to my car as well as my car's paint on her bumper. She's since scrubbed the paint off of her car and not said a WORD about making it right. I just texted her and asked if she knew she hit my car and gave her the hit and run police report I filled out for my insurance provider and nicely asked for her insurance info. No reply yet...

Has something like this ever happened to you and if so, what did you do about it?

Yep, dude in a huge ole sedan did a Uturn on our street and sideswiped my truck in the process. I happened to see it and chased him down the street like the t2000 from Terminator to no avail and he got away. I got a good look at him and guessed which neighborhhod he lived in and hunted him down the next day.  Found his car parked in a nearby apartment complex, parked behind it and started blasting Here Comes Sunshine until people came out and I asked who rhe owner of the car was.  I was pointed in the right direction, knocked on his door and told him I needed his conract info and insurance policy number.  He was caught offguard and knew he was busted and gave me all the info sheepishly. I got my car paid for.

Nice! The chick that hit my car is denying it so I offered to send her the photos of the paint from my car on her bumper and she went silent. Probably not going to get any insurance info out of her but at least she's not walking around thinking she got away with it entirely.

We live near the end of of a one-lane dead end.  As you might imagine, dipshits who manage to miss a dead-end sign are the same kind of folks who are likely to leave some paint behind.

Mitigating (but no excuse, dipshits!) factors:

The owners of the last house before the dead end keep cones at the end of their driveway to keep dipshits off it, which makes the k-turn tougher.

Opposite that driveway is sparse brush and five or six ft drop into a creek (there's actually more room to work with there than opposite us, where there's a guardrail).  I could make popcorn while the first dipshit of the day struggles to turn around, then eat it all day while the rest of them do the same.   And that's just cars.  First-time Amazon, UPS or short-bus drivers have garnered both laughs and pity.

Naturally, I wasn't watching when our driver's side rear QP caught some paint.  But I assume it happened here.

Twice: Summer '81, drove 3000 miles for the Long Beach shows, neighbor of my friend in Los Angeles told him she had accidently hit another car, he told her the owner's sleeping on my sofa.

About 10 years later at work, co-worker said nothing, but her car's paint was on my fender.

Yeah, some guy destroyed the side of my wife's car pulling out of an Auto Zone. A utility truck with a big heavy steel bumper - raked the entire driver's side. Must've forgot he had his steering wheel cranked when he pulled out. They left. I went into the store asked about the guys in the truck. They said they didn't have their part so they sent them to NAPA down the street. I went to NAPA. They were not parked in the lot, but on the side street around the corner (hiding?). I blocked the guys truck in and asked the mechanic in the shop across the street to call the cops. He did. But the cop didn't arrive by the time they came out, they denied it, we argued a bit and they took off. Talked to the cop. He said I had to go back to the place it happened 4 blocks away because it was a different jurisdiction (seriously) and call those cops to report it. I did. They traced the plate to a local business. I visited the business and the owner was skeptical of my story. He asked the employees, they denied it. I insisted it happened. Three supervisors and I met at the NAPA store and pulled his truck next to the damage. As soon as we did, the one supervisor said "Yep, he did it." Color and height matched perfectly. They agreed to pay privately if I didn't go through the company insurance. They tried to get me to go to one of their friends for a repair, but I refused and got it fixed at a body shop we chose.

I smile every time I pass that NAPA store.

no, they just door ding the fuck out of it though.

Flip side:  Got a surprise $500 check from our former town's insurer for minor damage we never even noticed on a car we rarely parked on the street.  Never got a phone call/letter; doorbell never rang.

Opened the check.  Huh?  Walked outside and noticed a minor ding/scratches.

"Oh, yeah...look at that.  Let's go deposit this and grab some lunch."

Good stories, y'all. I don't think this chick is going to own up but we both know she did it, that paint didn't scrub itself off. Thankfully my insurance adjuster verified that my car looked like it was parked when it was hit and they're not holding me responsible for the damage - as in it won't go against my driving record since I wasn't driving when the car was hit, but that $150 copay sucks.

New normal.

I don't think people bailing on leaving a note is anything new. Some people have integrity but a lot don't. Not new.

No. But I've hit a few cars in my lifetime and didn't leave notes. I'm sure other zoner's have too but won't admit it.

No, but I've had a few notes left on my cars not about hitting my car. I drove a '62 Mercury Custom Comet wagon (a sweet ride) in the '80s that had stickers all over the back of it. Got some interesting GD-related notes and treats.
