How are you gearing up for the recession?

Forums:

I’ve decided that we can’t go on fall Dead & Co tour, much to the dismay of Miss. BB the 9th, as we have been saving up to go.

ALAS, now is not the time for such semi-frivolous expenditures. THANKS FEDERAL RESERVE CHAIRMAN JEROME POWELL!

So, how are you gearing up for the big recession?

if the resession hits it isn't powell's doing, this correction is long over do and orange man's tariffs have just as much to do with with as the fed, hunker down we will all come out of this , unless the moron gets reelected, which seems more likely every day

I have a large jar of pistachios I couldn't open by hand....now will open by force.

Nice Ned have you tried banging the edge of the lid on a counter first before twisting the top? Sometimes that works

activate zombie apocalyse doomsday plan. maybe learn to be a ham radio operator.

I’m not participating in this one

there are lots of multimillion dollar homes for sale in my hood.

be cool if a small home fell from $900k to $400k.

Not a bad idea.  Satellites are vulnerable if the shit ever hit the fan, and if they were rendered inoperable, all the cell phones and even those fancy, high priced satellite phones would be worthless.   We added old fashion walkie-talkies to our emergency kits last year, but for long range communications and getting news, those ham radio set ups will be invaluable.

what’s in your emergency kit I’m thinking of starting one

Planning a Disneyland trip for next fall.

some of you need to see my wife the shrink, kind of paranoid, it isn't going to be the second great depression, these resessions are normal and the market can't keep going up and up, Bush left it was 8500 Dow, Obama left 23,000, but Trump claims it's him. IMO it will gradually go down until the election, with fingers crossed anyone but Trump gets elected, it will then gradually turn back up. And I was kidding about the shrink but a little truth in there

She's not getting anywhere near my nuts.

if your nuts are bigger than your brain, sorry  :)

My son and I are going to buy a butt load of properties

We have been waiting and watching

Its basically broken into a couple of categories and a large part of it includes normal camping and other outdoor gear which I use throughout the year.  The idea is if the house becomes unlivable because of an earthquake, you can camp out in the yard, or if you need to bug out of town and head to the woods, you got everything you need.   I have my camping stuff organized in plastic totes that I can just pick up and throw in the Subaru on a moment's notice and know I have the basics (including the first aid kit) covered.

However, we also have five gallon buckets of true emergency supplies that we don't use regularly and supplement the already organized camping supplies.   We have things like extra batteries, flashlights, different types of cordage, super glue, zip ties, walkie-talkies, multiple sets of work gloves, utility tape, tarps, plastic trash bags, soap, and fire starting supplies.  Other five gallon buckets are set aside with snap on toilet seat lids and extra bags for sanitation.

I also have food buckets with enough dried stuff to last a couple months, along with cooking oil, seasonings, and hot sauce.   Water is stored in five five-gallon jugs plus three 150 gallon rain barrels.  There is a solar set up, but unfortunately its a net meter set up which is tied to the grid and would shut down in an emergency.   You can get a back up battery system that would allow you to continue using the panels in the event the grid goes down, but that would cost almost as much as the system.   So I need some improvement in that area.

My brother's bug-out cabin in an undisclosed location in the Manzano Mountains in New Mexico has an off the grid solar set up, but that wouldn't do me any good up here in Oregon.

you’re really going for it. TY for the info Ken I’ve never really thought about that stuff.

+1 for the Hot Sauce. I hope it's Tapatia.

does she do any remote therapy like over Skype

if you can afford her and the wire transfer clears , sure she skype's with client all the time. when i say if you can afford her, that;s not about you. remember she is highly regarded and nyc prices are just stupid high for all docs

Because recessions predictably happen every 10 years or so, I've been preparing for a few years now. Payed off lots of debt, saved lots of money, moved into a pretty recession proof career position. I'm ready as anyone can be. No need for paranoia, just be careful and wise. Good luck out there!
