Julia Butterfly Hill

Interesting article about the six month anniversary of her feet not touching the ground, Mickey pulls up in a dark brown Porsche 911 with like some sort of aboriginal pattern custom painted trim, then we all hike onto Pacific Lumber land for about a 2 hour trek to Luna, huge drum circle at the base of the tree, Julia was dancing to the drumming, her silhouette against the sky, it was a beautiful scene.

I don't click links from weirdos. Tell us what you want to say.

Good morning Floops, that's ok...you don't have to click on the link, how are things across the pond?  Not wanting to say much other than it was a cool scene, she's a beautiful person, doing very well...I believe she's 44 now, she does a lot of speaking.  Are people averse to links?  I guess that's a thing.

from the article...

Now two hours later, Mickey Hart and the drummers form a circle near Luna and continue weaving their rhythm songs.

All eyes peer upwards. The main top of Luna had ben blasted away by lightning long ago, perhaps centuries ago, and a crown of big branches had grown outward, then upward from the top of the shattered trunk. Julia's platform is supported on these branches, 180 ft. above the ground.

What follows next is memorable. As the drummers drum, Julia Butterfly climbs from her platform to the very tip of the tallest branch of the ancient tree. Holding on only with her legs and bare feet, she sways her torso, head, and arms, dancing to the rhythm, the cheers, the exuberant wolf-howls of the throng. A brisk and chilly wind blows her long dark hair straight out, giving the impression that she's part of the tree and its foliage.

"When the going gets weird"

I think it's great that you're living in Europe, it must be a great scene over there, especially this time of year

Who are you? Just tell me so I know. You are intelligent, but obtuse. I'm not putting much work into this sock, and I'm not clicking blind links

I don't mind the PNAC talk, but it doesn't fit into your right-wing slant. Wanna clear that up?

who are you?

You're talking like you know me, but you're new. How do you know that I'm in Europe?

Partnership for a New American Century was kind of a mission statement of sorts that many people consider the birth of the neoconservative movement, the thought being that after the fall of the Soviet empire, the United States had a window of opportunity to "run the table" and take over the world once and for all by developing a large footprint in the Middle East and controlling the world's oil supply, tragically this group was allowed start the Iraq war post 9/11.  The point I was trying to make in another thread was most people are stuck in the false dichotomy of republican v. democrat, when the real divide is actually neocon v. aversion to foreign entanglements. People mistakenly think they're voting peace and nonviolence by voting democrat, and until recently they were correct, the last few cycles not so much.  Hillary Clinton was/is a neocon.

I thought you had mentioned you were from Europe, not claiming to know you, I think that must be a wonderful scene though.

Is there a cool music scene over there?

It seems there were rumblings of Phil playing Europe sometime, I thought I had heard that somewhere

.>>>>>I believe she's 44 now, she does a lot of speaking.

Speaks about saving the natural environment.

Trump and his buddies want to log, mine, and develop it.

The way you explain PNAC - a Project, btw - sounds like you just learned about it and don't quite have a grip on it yet. Are you under thirty?

I was there on a field trip in 3rd grade

very good Floops, it was a late night, I had no business typing at that hour

Are you ever going to answer directly, in clear language?

I agree with much of what you say, but not all because it's just not right.

PNAC was nowhere near the start of that movement, which started in the late 60s and early 70s with the generation before.

Also, it's not Neoconservative vs. Peacenik; all government loves military.

Yes, Hillary is a NeoCon.

I spent a couple of years in the 1990s in the Bay Area gathering signatures to restrict/eliminate clear cutting of Redwood Forests. Julia Butterfly's courageous actions probably did more to raise awareness on the issue than anything me and my colleagues ever did. At one point there in the late 1990's, a well-known Dead Freak came into Grateful Dead Night in NIckie's BBQ in the Lower Haight in SF and he handed out stationary to anyone who would write a note of support and encouragement to Julia. I did just that, expressing how proud we activists were of her, but that I felt 2 years was enough, and that it was time for her to come down at that point. I was worried about her.

God Bless Julia Butterfly and all those activists who continue to fight for clean air, water and sustainable forestry and environmental practices...
