As you well know Jay, many from the younger generations like the Grateful Dead, but still, it is a shame that so many younger folks lack the proper attention span to be able follow baseball.
The league does keep dumbing it down though, specifically for you folks; you should give it another try.
In all seriousness, while much is missing without fans and "home" stadiums, the intensity, glory & overall greatness of playoff baseball still comes through, even in these oh-so weird times.
I've been watching the Sox since Pedro and crew in 1999. I love baseball. I work in marketing and was remarking that the music fits the demographic for who's watching baseball on TV. Last year the age was 56 years old. If I heard the Dead played during an NHL game I'd be more surprised. Again, I love baseball and its OK to criticize things you love; which I've done so tastefully on here. This was not a criticism but an observation from my marketing mind.
"I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve, and I believe in long, slow, deep, soft, wet kisses that last three days"
But what/who exactly were you criticizing? The game itself, because TV "demographics" show that it's older adults who love & follow it? Or should the younger generations who can't stick with it be the ones criticized?
More of the youngster set should learn to love baseball, it really is such a great game.
I hope you're hanging in there Jay. Stay strong, and teach your kid to love baseball.
I've never been a big baseball guy, the game moves to slow and there r so many games in a series I just can't get into the regular season although they're kinda fun in person.
it wasn't till moving to nor cal during a season where the giants went all the way and everyone around seemed to have the fever that I grew to appreciate post season mlb.
everything seems just so much higher stakes than during the regular season and all the lapses in action r filled with so much tension.
i've been hooked on the post season ever since.
didn't start watching this year till the series started because quarantine major league sports weird me out a little bit, but I'm glad this match up has surprised most everyone in terms of quality.
i still hope the ray's can pull it off tonight so we can have one more game but it won't b easy now.
did they blow it by pulling Snell too early, lance?
Playlist matches songs at Dodgers stadium except they haven't played heat stroke yet. Plus Pats vs 49ers had GD & Phish also Fox. Oh shit sports is targeting heads they no we got no concerts!
You're lucky I'm not a mandated child abuse reporter anymore Knot.
>>>I've given up die-harding team sports<<<
And you expose yourself as having NEVER been a true Dodgers fan, so go clean a pool or something and hope your kids learn despite you.
And Furious, I have no idea if it was the right move to pull that guy. I don't know the Rays well enough to say.
And that's also why sports is so much a better experience when you follow a team closely and are emotionally tied to that team.
The thrill of victory, the agony of defeat, the fun of wondering if every little move is right or wrong, the true (if impossible to explain) JOY of victory the true heartbreak of defeat...
Sports played at it's highest level is the human condition on display. It's art.
Teach your kids THAT.
(And a little Grateful Dead along the way never hurts)
I was referring to my past posts here on other baseball related threads where I've been critical of the current iteration of baseball. Strikeouts way up, games longer than ever, time spent between pitches at all time highs and just hearing these guys cry repeatedly about unwritten rules for bat flips, stares, hard slides and other nonsense. All subjective of course but I do like tuning into a sporting event knowing it will be over in 2.5 - 3 hours
Third time there in four years, I guess they deserve to be rewarded. Glad Kershaw got the monkey off his back. Mookie sure made a difference. Nice they got some sort of a season in this year.
I'm on some Facebook Dead Head group. Some other member's brother, who is a Head, is in charge of the music for Fox Sports. A lot of the tunes he plays are real time requests from the group. "I'm talking to my brother. What should he go into the next commercial with?" Three people will say "Franklins," and bam, there it is.
Congratulations Turtle. The plague made it anti-climactic, having to play in a neutral, generic stadium and without the fans, but the Dodgers have been good for quite a while now and a win is a win. That fucker Mookie made the difference. I'm going to get REALLY sick of that guy.
And I hear you Jay. The games are becoming more home run derby's than complex baseball games, with every player now swinging from the heals on every pitch in every situation, and that along with almost every pitcher now throwing 98+ mph is why there are so many strikeouts.
SOs & HRs are fun and all, but it's not very exciting or interesting to watch nine players standing in place while one jogs around the bases, or pitchers & catchers playing catch with umpires making dubious calls. Doubles, triples, steals, sacrifices, hit-&-runs, relays, plays at the plate are what make baseball games exciting, but with the DH and all the money that comes by hitting lots of home runs those things are seen less & less.
It drives me crazy how the shift has become such a routine part of the game. I don't have a problem with the concept, it's the fact that these elite professional hitters stubbornly refuse to beat it by simply slapping a few through the gaps, even with two outs & runners in scoring position. Chicks dig the long ball and that's where the big money is, so everyone wants to be Babe Ruth these days.
But even with all the flaws, it's still baseball, and anyone who watched the end of Game 5 the other night got to see why baseball can still be so great. THAT was wild & crazy and incredibly exciting, and it had nothing to do with a home run.
Great win for the boys in blue and definitely overdue. In a way, makes 2017 and the cheating Astros even worse. Dodgers should be celebrating their second ring with this crew but whatever... plus the Lakers bringing it home, great year for LA sports fans. A silver lining to a horrible year.
BTW, the Fox producer's name is Jake. Very good guy and a head like us. He's been at Fox for about 15 years. Started with NASCAR and worked his way up to MLB and the World Series. Definitely impressive. Plays lots of GD, Phish and yes..even Jessica.
I was quite despondent after that Sat night ninth inning debacle. Felina texted me the next day and told me not to worry. That the better team would win. Thanks Felina. Think Blue!

Either way, it looks like your team might actually finish one of these off.

Even in this shitty year and this not-really-a-season season it's a great accomplishment, and should be a great moment for any Dodgers fan.

took a while for my interest to be spiked again, 10 yrs or so ago. it still IS a great game.
also, not only the shifts, but every damn aspect is so overly scientifically dissected it takes away from the charm.
and yeah, if hitters are that level, they should be able to place it in the gaps, no?
wish the fans at dodger stadium could have rejoiced, as THAT place is special.
