New Quentin Tarantino Movie

Forums:

Saw "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" last night.   No spoilers, but it had a slow buildup, lots of character development, and a classic Tarantino ending.  See it if you can.

Saw it last Friday, really enjoyed the tribute to the late 60's, music, tv, cars and dress. Too bad the ending wasn't how it really turned out. Sharon tates sister said that robeys portrayal of her brought back to life.

Brad Pitt is awful as anything.

I read Bruce Lee's family wasn't too happy with how he was portrayed.

I saw it last night as well and thought it was fantastic! Go see it. Both DiCaprio and Pitt turn in outstanding performances.

Loved it broken heart

Evocative fictionalized meditation on fame and change, set in 1969 Hollywood

Great performances by the three leads, and breakout performances by Margaret Qualley (as one of the Manson family) and Julia Butters (as a child actor)

GTTS

GTTM  :)

It was two hr and thirty mins of absolute trash that was produced extremely well. I mean was there any real point to that movie? Was pretty funny tho. Just made zero sense

Not sure if I'll ever get past "walking out" of The Hateful 8 in the middle ... big western fan & it was also filmed in my backyard.

Maybe it was a bad first Tarantino movie to watch? (never seen Pulp)

You didn't like the door in hateful 8?

Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs are must-see.

FOM reminds me of Mr. Pink.

>>>>You didn't like the door in hateful 8?

We camped in a yurt one night during a violent storm on the Oregon Coast and the door to the yurt became known as the "Hateful 8 door."

"You have to use two pieces.  One isn't enough."

Not sure I'm aware of it ... since I turned it off shortly after they got to the cabin.

Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs are must-see.

Have been meaning to watch Pulp Fiction for a while, but H8 didn't help matters.

What's up with the "switch to 3rd person" mid-stride (as if I left the room)?

It was weird seeing all the h8 crew attend shows in town when they weren't working ... they were easy to spot and very cliquish

> I mean was there any real point to that movie? <

It presented a distinct change in time for Hollywood and America as a whole......innocence, a loss of innocence, aging and change for both an individual, an industry, a culture. There is a lot of depth in that movie if you look for it.....I suppose it's easy to just ride the wave, but it presents the depth of change at that point in time in great detail.

Face on Mars,  check out Inglorious Basterds.

It has a fantastic change in actual history movie ending. I really liked that movie.

^ I second Inglorious Basterds.  Watched again last night.  I love the opening scene!

Thanks ... will add to IB to list.

Maybe I just need to be "primed" to QT first ... and H8 might "make more sense".

Add True Romance to that list. Fucking fantastic movie.

What made you walk out of H8?

^ Because They came to his town and slept with all the womins, drank all the craft beer, increased property values...

What made you walk out of H8?<<<

It was a DVD from the library, so just stopped watching it.

I don't know what it was, but it just never "grabbed" my attention in any way to keep me interested.  It's certainly possible I didn't give it enough of a chance to allow myself to be hooked, but it was a while ago so can't quite remember much in the way of specifics.   Then again, ned might be onto something beyond his typical shtick ... it's possible I was unconsciously setting myself up for high expectations given what I had to "endure" :-)

Just a boring movie. The spinoff with the murder made absolutely no real sense. Hateful eight was a lot worse though. Just unbelievably bad

Hateful 8 was for the hardcore Tarantino purists, IMO. I loved it, but I love everything Tarantino does. It's like Tim Burton, I love everything he puts out, even the bad stuff is at least creatively daring in comparison to most Hollywood fare. Same with Tarantino: you know he's always gonna put a ton of love in great dialogue, interesting gritty characters, cool settings and a whole dollop of general badassery that makes it all fun. At least for me. YMMV

Hateful 8 was brilliant.  Pure Tarantino.

He distilled America down to an isolated snow bound cabin where every character was a symbol.  Tarantino isnt ever just telling one story.

His love of film is infectious.

Not surprised to find out he's a shit human being and a creep to boot; but he makes really great art.

H8 sucked. I like Jackie Brown a lot.

Jackie was one of his weakest imo

Jackie Brown was the weakest and even so I loved it. Great to see Pam Grier and Samuel Jackson on the screen together. Loved the music. Great characters. Loved it.

I think "Hollywood" was great. I loved it. I remember those days well & this remake of it was loads of fun.

Any oft who likes hateful eight has got to be a boring motherfucker. The dialogue was drawn out and not even good. My favorite director is Kubrick and I kcan admit that Barry Lyndon was about as boring as boring can get. Seems that Tarantino could take a shit and people will think it’s brilliant. He had a taste for overdrawn cinematics and boring character development in his last couple. Django was ok but also dragged on for too long. Might just pass on his next flic. I don’t need to see brad Pitt riding around Hollywood for four hrs and Leo decaprio crying in a cowboy accent for two hrs.

i find his stuff contrived, gratuitously violent, and totally overrated.

Turtle, you should have just posted this.

Love Kubrick too. A real master.

I liked Barry Lyndon though.  It tugs at the edges of the themes in Eyes Wide Shut.
