Pics from a Sept 24th trip through the Alpine Loop near Mt. Timpanogos, past Bob Redford's Sundance Resort. Colors not near as vibrant this year, and add some smoke, but still a nice getaway. Stopped at Deer Creek Reservoir to watch the kite surfers and then over the mountain through Big Cottonwood Canyon past Brighton Ski Resort. Not much color up that way.
After we checked out some of the sights in DC and Maryland, my son and I met up with my brother on our mountain land in Campbell County, VA, where we camped out for four nights:
Yesterday, we took a field trip to the nearby Blue Ridge Parkway and did some day hikes:
gertrude jeckyll ....very vf, climber and ultra-thorny... all roses are south facing foundation plantngs under kitchen and bedroom windows....good protection for low windows and the combined scents make having your windows open even more of a pleasure
beautiful New England Aster in full bloom....a native prairie flower, this will go until several hard frosts finally kill it...a late nectar source for migrating butterflies

that's Milk Thistle. It's invasive, often spread by cattle grazing. It's a known liver tonic. ----
I'm going with "flower" and also believe it's exactly where it "should" be, but understand the "alternative narrative" :-)
