Basically along lines of the hourglass, the petrichor "rain" , the pirate ship last year, the gag has basically become phish meets circque sol or broadway etc....the 2016 petrichor was awesome....
I like Phish a lot, but have never "got" the whole gag thing. Likewise, I like Hot Rize, but never even so much as break a smile for "Red Knuckles".
Also not impressed by "big gags" such as latest incarnation with Phish ... in the same light that I wouldn't laugh any harder (or at all) if Gallagher smashed the worlds biggest watermellon
Phish is firing on all cylinders musically these days so they don't need to "rely" on the gags. Its fun and festive and if they have the money and time to pull it off, why not?
^^, exactly, Ken...no one is "relying" on anything...slacker knows that, he s just still tryng to ruffle feathers from under his bridge....
Its all in good fun, entertainment, and all their recent "gags" have been visually fantastic as this band continues to try and peak all your senses...they are on top of their game, and obviously on top of the rock touring game, as we all know...minus the Stones, Bruce, and maybe a dinasuar reunion or two, nobody else is selling out MSG w a 13 night run.
Remember what the Deads back stages looked like at Stadium shows in 90 s? The videos, lights, and huge tapestries? One wonders what "gags" theyd be doing , visually, if still here etc...
Again, its always differant if you are there, and Sundays show was off the hook amazing. Nothing comes close to what CK5 does w the lighting for this band. Tripping without drugs is pretty cool....;)
And that was just a normal show...the "gags" are saved for Halloween and New Years eve, for a cpl songs....not a far cry from another band ringing in the New Year w bill graham riding a huge joint to usher it in

Heck, I can make it to the city in a little over an hour, without traffic. Can't remember that last time I drove to the city without hitting traffic.
