Sup Zoners,

I'll be in Sacramento for a night on Monday the 17th.  Staying downtown a few blocks from where I'm working on Tuesday morning.  Any food recommendations for dinner?  Any Zoners out that way that want to grab dinner let me know.

go see mylar's hippie hr.

I second Turtle!

Jay,
Old Ironsides, corner of 10th & S streets.
I'll be playing with Heath Williamson & Friends from 5:30 to 8 PM
No cover. I'll buy you dinner and drinks.

Thanks for the replies ^___^

Sounds good, Mylar.  Looks like Ironsides is 6 minutes from where I'll (most likely) be staying.  I just submitted my travel this afternoon so I should know tomorrow the specifics with my flight and hotel.  I envision myself getting there by evening time but who knows with travel haha.

Not only is mylar a fun show, he buys beers.

Trip advisor 5star

I'll take a diet coke ;)  My drink of choice when I'm letting my proverbial hair down.

Siobud is a wild man.

If you're in range of the Sac Railroad Station,  check out the awesome heated wooden benches.

I think they are Oak.  Really a pretty neato idea !

Clearly Disco Stu is a wild man too.

the best sit down dinner in sac is at ella dining room, but its not cheap. the ONLY good sushi place is sushi kru, and its phenomenal, but also not cheap. i dont have many recommendations outside of fancy dinners, i used to live in the mountians outside of sac and would just drive down when i needed a baller dinner and infusion of some city life.

the ONLY good sushi place is sushi kru, and its phenomenal, but also not cheap. although if you like sushi, and live in an area that does not have anywhere that serves real, traditional japanese nigiri, i would really recommend checking it out. most sushi in the usa is americanized futomaki - big rolls with lots of crap. traditional sushi in japan is typically very simple nigiri - just raw fish, wasabi, soy sauce and rice. your standard american sushi place does not have good enough fish to make this delicious...but when you have great fish, proper rice, and good wasabi, and an expert sushi chef, its like a great slice of pizza where all the ingredients meld into this incredible singular flavor - and it wont happen that way unless everything is on point. the omakase is really nice, as the chef will serve you a mix of hot plates and sushi that is selected based on what is freshest and the best that day.

I'll second that Kru is the best place for Japanese food in Sac. My friends from Japan always go there for "home cooking" when they are in town.
Sactown has many good restaurants, with a few in the downtown area. Depends on what type of cuisine your in the mood for. The only recommendation I would say is to stay away from Paragary group restaurants, which are over priced and over hyped. Some good stuff in the hotels, but, again, over priced.
Mondays at Old I features a different guest chef each week, with a vegan dinner every 2nd Monday. The chefs bring in substantial dinners for just $5. They do this mostly to show off their skills or to introduce their restaurants to a different crowd. Not sure who is cooking on the 17th, but I've never had a bad meal in the past 4.5 years I've been playing there.
Diet coke? Got you covered.
Old Ironsides was the first bar in Sac to get a liquor license after prohibition in 1933. Same family has been running it since before that. My grandfather used to hang out there!
If you can, Jay, at least stop by and say "high". Maybe we can get Redneck and Alias to show up and have a little Zoner party. smiley

So my visit to Sacramento a few years back was just passing through,  from Oakland to Truckee on the Train & Amtrak bus.
It's a very nice train station.

Thanks again for the replies everyone.  I am lucky and thankful to be alive today- I got ploughed by a Fed Ex truck on the interstate this morning on my way to work.  I was at a complete stop and got hit by the truck going about 50 mph.

20181206_090915.jpg

Just left the hospital- I am OK... just have a splitting headache right now.  The truck driver was pinned in his truck and had to be removed by the EMS/firefighters and a third vehicle was involved which I think was totaled as well.  I think the woman driving went to the hospital as well.  Not a good way to start the day.  I hope they're OK- the guy was certainly shooken up and was just repeatedly apologizing and asking if everyone was OK while he was still stuck inside his truck.

^ Kinda weird seeing my car in such shape- I loved that thing.  Everything about it.

Fuck.  Glad you’re okay.

Happy to hear you are alright.

The car is going to need some work though.

Good to see that the Airbags deployed.

>>Siobud is a wild man.

ha.  I'm wild in my own psychonautical ways ;)  This February makes 6 years since I gave up drinking.

Disco Stu,

I stopped by the Truckee Railroad Museum in 2010 when I was on my way to Furthur Festival at Angel's Camp.  That's cool you provided that photo- brought back memories.

Daylight,

Thanks for the dinner tips.  Money isn't a thing as I'll be on company dime.

Mylar,

I should be landing around 5:55... my timing will be tighter than I hoped by I am still planning on meeting up, at least to say Hi and stuff for a bit.  I have to give a big demonstration to hospital execs from 5 area hospitals early in the am and the material isn't really in my wheelhouse so I will need to study a bit before bed.  I then have to fly to Spokane, WA immediately after for demos at Grand Coulee Dam and then drive back west to Newport, WA for another day of demos before coming home for Christmas break.  I'll keep you posted though.. feel free to drop me a line via email: [email protected]

<3

Fuckin christ Jay, glad you're okay. Tanked from behind at full stop? Fuck me.

Where did he tag you? Is that 295? The Pike?

>>Is that 295?

Yea- right where it dumps into 95.  I was stopped for the usual slow down as we dump into 95.

*Double post*

The driver is on record stating to the police that his brakes failed and that he's been after his bosses about it for a while now.  A few Fed Ex official-looking dudes showed up immediately to take photos and stuff.  My Dad happened to be out to lunch with his friend who's a lawyer and offered to represent me.  It's a funny anecdote that the lawyer is a Head- caught a Dead&Co show with him and my Dad last summer.  He said I have a very legitimate case that could pay out a bit.

glad you are ok, wow.

That's insane.

Are you in town next week?

>>>Are you in town next week?

I have to be in Kansas Monday - Wednesday.  In town Thursday and Friday   ^__^  You all settled into new spot?

Got it, there's some stuff on the calendar I'm gonna double back and check when and where.

We're there at the new spot, not quite 100% settled but it's getting there. Forgot how much I missed the neighborhood, so great. We'll talk soon.

Definitely just psyched you are alright.

Glad you're OK, sio...that could have been deadly.

So glad you survived that crash. Your photo is incredible. Heal up!

you are not alright you have a massive headache, and your back will probably stiffen up tonight, stop posting as if you are alright.

glad you were not killed, stay safe

Yeah,  be careful.

You really ought to check in w/ Medical professionals and screen for concussion and other injuries.

More often than not,  people in major crashes don't realize how badly they got hurt until later.

Shock and Adrenaline kick in and you can walk away,  but actually got hurt.

Harsh Jay !  glad you are O.K. - I Hate Seeing Any Toyota 4 Runner Get Crunched , I Love 4 Runners.

>>stop posting as if you are alright.

Uhh- so should I just rant and complain and go on about my headache?  I went to the hospital, got scanned in some machine, talked to a doctor and was discharged.  Not sure why I can't say I'm OK and carry on with my OP.  Thanks for the well-wishes though.  I genuinely appreciate them all- from all of you.  I've been reflecting on how impressive it was seeing all the firefighters, police, EMS and tow truck drivers come together with such confidence in their procedures and everything.  Probably just another day in the office for those folks but it was pretty remarkable seeing them all execute their roles and express genuine care and concern for us.  Also appreciative of my daughter's Mom who came and picked me up- fuckin love her and am thankful for our teamwork in raising the kids and being their for each other when shit gets real.

>>Toyota 4 Runner.

It is/was? a Highlander.. I like how they're a littttle smaller than the full 4 runner.  Such a wonderful piece of machinery- a beaut!  "It's a BEAUT, Clark!  a BEAUT!"

Damn, jay, that sounds like a crazy day. Glad you made it through.

Monday, Old Ironsides. Mylar and Heath.

Check.

Se you then. If you have any questions, let me know. I WILL say that The Stagecoach is the best breakfast in town, but may not be close enough for you.

Kru is definitely all that.

Urban Roots has the largest smoker west of the Mississippi and they are very good at the smoking of the meats and general BBQ/Soul food. Also, not too spendy.

I know you don't drink, but the local breweries usually have great food trucks as well.

The dinner at Old Ironsides for the gig has always been delicious and affordable.

See ya then.

Jay, so scary looking and so good to read that you don't feel hurt or damaged beside your headache. I know you have a favored chiropractor, I'd suggest that you get checked out. Please.

It's a big relief for everyone that you made it through that. Special kisses for your daughter.

Love. And have fun in Sacramento!

Hope the medical team has given you a CAT scan! concussion symptoms (i.e. Headache) often does not show up for a few days.

After seeing your car, major whiplash would be the least problem.Regardless of you "think you're okay" the medical documents will be in your favor for any lawsuit.

best Wishes!

Glad you are ok Jay!  Wow, ...tragedy narrowly averted.

>>for any lawsuit.

Lawyer already called me and wants to represent me.  Said the fact the driver was stating his brakes went AND that the company was notified but did not act are very good for me.  We'll see.  I'm really not trying to look at this now as a money grab but I do think some sort of compensation is in order.

Mylar/Heath/Redneck,

What time do the festivities go til on Monday the 17h and what is parking like over there?  I'll land at 6:00 ish, grab my car and head over for a bit.

Wow! Sorry to hear about the car accident. Glad you're OK and hope the other people are, too.
We play until 8 PM. Parking is free on the street with a 2 hour limit, but there is also free Old I parking across the street in the lot next to the restaurant lot.
Restaurant lot is OK, too, since they close after lunch. This is where I usually park.
Looking forward to meeting you.

WOW JAY GLAD YOUR ALRIGHT THAT LOOKS NASTY. Funny we have the same vehicle, I traded my 16 in recently for an 18 hybrid, if you can afford it give it a shot, I love that I get 31 mpg in it. I love it as well. Hope you have a great time in SAC

Mylar and Heath, I hate to bring the bad news but my flights got shuffled around (surprise surprise) and I'm now only getting to Sacramento at 9:00 pm Pacific Time.  As such, I won't be able to meet up as I have such a busy Tue-Wed-Thur.  Ugh.  Sorry for having to bail but, who knows, I'm on the road every week and if my demo goes well on Tuesday I'll likely be back out for follow up demos in the new year.

That's gnarly, glad you didn't get really fucked up, but I would not recommend flying with a concussion....

Stuff happens, Jay. If the fates allow, I'll still be playing at least twice a week. If you hit Sac when I'm not playing, maybe we can still meet for a soda. smiley
Safe travels.

>>flying with a concussion....

I don't think the concussion was really bothering me but my neck was stiff AF after a while.  Bringing one of those neck pillow things on my flight Monday.

>>Safe travels.

Thanks, homie.  I'll let you know if/when I go back to Sacramento.
