Sending Peter Rowan {{{Healing Vibes}}}

Forums:

Not sure what it is, but just learned he's apparently going through some health issues and has canceled a bunch of shows.

https://bluegrasstoday.com/peter-rowan-off-the-road-for-a-few-months/

I jammed bluegrass with Peter (& Maria Muldaur) at a Christmas Party in Mill Valley the Saturday Night before the recent holiday.
He sounded fine but he looked bloated and sort of "out of sorts."
It may have been the sofa he was sitting on but after a while, he simply slid onto the floor and just kept pickin' and singing, but he didn't look hale and hardy.

To me, another artist of concern who's health seems compromised is Taj Mahal.
I caught him with Keb Mo at the UC Theater in Berkeley last year and he also looked oddly bloated, and needed assistance to get on and off stage.

(((Stay healthy and strong, Peter Rowan)))

the article states that Peter expects to be touring and performing again later this year, which is GREAT news

beaming healing vibes & positive energy for a speedy recovery

he hasn't looked great recently at all.

one of my all time faves.

love and respect to pete rowans.

Best wishes and healing vibes to Peter Rowan. Here he is with Dr. Banjo and Tim O'Brien at Targhee 2012. I believe that's Charles Sawtelle's guitar.

I'm so sorry to here this. Hope its temporary. The guy is a living musical great and has played with the best (looking at you treble!).  Old and in the Way made a huge impact on my life. Watch that liver mister!  vibes and all that

Be well, Peter Rowan  heart . He was sublime and humorous at Roy's Hall in Blairstown, NJ last October...

((( Healthy and vibrant Peter Rowan )))

Hugs and health Peter Rowan

Loved it when he warmed up for the dead at Veneta Oregon back in 82 (Oregon Country Fairsite).  I never got to see Old and in the Way, but the Rowan Brothers were a blast!

Skudebro, we are going to that and need someone else to buy a ticket for the 4th seat at the table so we don't have to sit with some square.  You should come.  redneck has the seat info.

I just picked up tickets, what a great line up! I hope Peter is doing well....

This is the last time I saw Peter, November 2015.

Here is old Pete Rowan up on the side of Mt. Hood:

I had noticed that he seemed to have slowed down the last few times I saw him, but really glad he is back at it.  An American treasure for sure.

Poor squares.

Great news that he is getting out and about.  Keep on healin.

Great to hear! Seeing him in April.

Lance, you can sit at the cool kids table if you want.

Great to see Peter up and playing. Psyched to see him next month.

Nice to have some good news.  Thanks.

>>Great to hear! Seeing him in April.

Did you go? How as the show Foxy?

Can anyone provide an update as to how Peter Rowan is doing, and or what he's up to?

My PCs are locked up for the rest of the day & Viva is the only site I can be at. Can't surf until like 2am.

Thanks

I saw Peter do a number of sets very well at Merlefest the last weekend in April.

I saw a great set with Donna the Buffalo - Pete and his songs work well with them.

He did a short set called Merlefest Veterans Jam with Sam Bush, Jerry Douglas, Jack Lawrence and Joe Smothers.  That was great, but too short.

Also saw him do set with his current band in the Traditional Tent sitting ten feet away.

I missed it, but heard his Carter Stanley's Eyes set was great.  He's doing this again at RockyGrass and he's also doing an Old & In the Way thing at RockyGrass with Dawg and Sam Bush playing the Vassar role (Sam Grisman on bass and Bill Keith on banjo).  That should be GRATE!!!

He's older than he once was and younger than he'll be.  Seemed fine.  Here's a closeup from the Donna the Buffalo set.

Awesome. Thank you very much!

He's so happy in that photograph.

He no longer looks like Cap'n Crunch, but good to see him back on stage!

Jerry Garcia Band did the ultimate kick ass tour in the North East in November of 1981.

Jerry & Parrish flew in Peter Rowan to open for a few of these shows, &  as part of the JGB Panama Red  / MidNight Moonlight show closer encores.

All of these encores with Peter happened at close to 2am or later. Being part of the Late show's finale

Take my fuzzy first hand account of these encores - I never saw Jerry Garcia so happy, when he introduced Peter and he comes running in from the audience with that big cowboy hat on.

My PC is still locked up, but I don't think I have access to these encores with Rowan.

>>another artist of concern who's health seems compromised is Taj Mahal.

Ya know I had given up on being able to ever see Taj, but he just booked a show out on eastern Long Island

Take my fuzzy first hand account of these encores - I never saw Jerry Garcia so happy, when he introduced Peter and he comes running in from the audience with that big cowboy hat on.<<<<

I can see why, he always delivers and is constantly re-inventing himself.  Seeing him play with Jack Casady last year was a treat to say the least! (even in spite of getting into it with someone for 20 minutes who wanted me to stop dancing and sit down).  Easily my favorite "regular" @ TBF - by far.

great Photo Eddie, thanks

Hmmmm-saw Rowan open for JGB a few times but don't recall any musical interaction?

If you haven't checked out his album My Aloha I highly recommend it.  It couldn't be more Hawaiian or more Peter Rowan.  It's just exactly perfect.

>>Hmmmm-saw Rowan open for JGB a few times but don't recall any musical interaction?

??

Peter Rowan didn't open for Jerry Garcia in November of 1981, he was part of Jerry's Band (as a special guest) and played a 2 song encore at about 4-5 of the shows.

Who are you..what region? What shows did you attend where Peter sat on the bench?

Here is one my playbills from that tour.  Pretty sure I can round up the encores too.

... kind of buried in the mix, but he's still with us - on the stage - making music!

Just saw your post Bluelight-saw alot of east Coast JGB and never heard of any sit ins dude.

Peter Rowan seemed good when I saw him play live in Vermont on Aug. 18.

Enjoyed his set at HSBG, which leaned heavily on the Old & In The Way catalog.  He looked to be in good health and spirits.
