It was NRPS' first record with Skip Battin, who replaced Dave Torbert, who'd split to form Kingfish. Battin always was showing up late to the party, having already been in latter-era versions of The Byrds and Flying Burrito Brothers before joining the Riders. He wrote a bunch of songs for that album, a couple that he shares credit with Kim Fowley on. The better songs are the Hunter/Nelson Crooked Judge, the cover of Dylan's You Angel You, and John Dawson's Instant Armadillo Blues.
The Riders records get spottier than this one. It's kind of grown on me. Give it a couple more spins before you ditch it.
You're thinking, "yeah, Gregg Rolie, he had some jams, he was in the original Santana Band, that's him singing on Black Magic Woman, Journey didn't totally blow choads"...
Do not think that. Avoid this album like the drum programmed 80's nightmare it is.
Another 80's synth & electronic drum laden miscarriage. There may be some decent songs underneath the awful 1986 production values, and the videos are pretty funny, but this album is hurtin' sonically.

String Cheese Incident : Outside Inside.
Up until recently, I had been very careful as to what album I add to my collection, since Phil Lesh's There & Back again.
An album does not gain entry to my audio library unless I understand every musical aspect of it & forgive who ever tried to engineer it.
