Today In Rock Trivia

Forums:

Jim Peterik , founder of Survivor and co-writer of Eye of The Tiger, was guitarist/vocalist and song writer of another number hit with a completely different band, can you name either the song and/or band? Fabulous no prize to the winner

I'll play.

That Macarena (sp) song. I have zero idea but those two hit songs interest me about the same amount.

No kidding, had no idea he wrote that ( not the macarena)

Much better tune than eye of the tiger.

I looked it up, so i won't spoil it for someone else.

As did I, good tune...

And a good question

Should I offer a hint ?

The Final Countdown?

Further back than that

Was he part of the band that sang the tuneabout the lion sleeping tonight.

Ayoooobumdaheeyyyy.

No, not one of The Tokens

I'm your Vehicle, baby.

^^^

we have a winner of the fabulous no prize

This single, released in 1973 featured an ad hoc band of all star musicians; George Harrison, Klaus Voorman, Billy Preston, Tom Scott, Nicky Hopkins, JIm Keltner, Carol King and Michelle Phillips.  It reached number 15 on the Billboard.  It is the only spoof song that peaked higher than the original.  The song inspired a short film and has been covered and featured in other movies and the Simpsons.

No ideas???

i asked this a few years ago and i don't believe anyone guessed correctly, so i'll ask again:

How is Bill Graham's intro of the Grateful Dead on March 1st 1969 factually incorrect?

I have no idea on the previous 2 questions, but I'll add an easy one,

Who produced This Diamond Ring by Gary Lewis and the Playboys?

Who is Al Kooper?

DJ : Grateful Dead were not a seven piece ?

Who is Al Kooper?

correct

>>>  DJ : Grateful Dead were not a seven piece ?

Incorrect:  Jerry, Bob, Pigpen, Phil, Billy, Mickey, Tom

The George Harrison, carole king q above^ ....is that in ref to Basketball Jones?? The list of musicians above adds up for that song, but i dont understand the short film part of question...im either wrong, or unaware of said film etc

There were numerous groups of California juveniles older than the Greatful Dead in 1969.

Goddammit. I misspelled "Grateful Dead."

>>>> There were numerous groups of California juveniles older than the Greatful Dead in 1969.

you're getting colder.

^^^ that's kind of a hint (based on the 1st response)

>>>How is Bill Graham's intro of the Grateful Dead on March 1st 1969 factually incorrect?

The Magnificent Seven isn't a Japanese film...he meant the Seven Samurai. But...its a cool intro so Im ok with it.

winner

But that movie was a remake of the Japanese film.

Another easy one to start the weekend,

This singer / keyboard player sang lead on 3 number 1 hits with 3 different bands, Squeeze, Ace, and Mike and the Mechanics, who is he?

Who was the original drummer for The Turtles and what band 60's SF Icon band did he join ?

Billy Joel?

John Barbata, Jefferson Airplane

>>> But that movie was a remake of the Japanese film.

the Japanese film is called "the Seven Samurai". The American remake was called "the Magnificent Seven".

the grateful dead should be called the American version of the Japanese film "the Seven Samurai".

it's simple.

The keyboardist above is Paul Carrack.

I saw him play with Clapton a couple of years ago.

This famous Rod Stewart song (later covered by Paris Hilton) was co-written by a member of a semi-popular late-'60's psychedelic rock band. Name the song, the co-writer and the band he was in.

"Da Ya Think I'm Sexy", Carmine Appice, Vanilla Fudge

Name 17 musicians in the Rock and Roll Hall o' Fame.
