Traffic Caution for I-80 in Nevada and California

Forums:

From the Salt Lake Tribune yesterday...

Reno, Nev. • State troopers in California and Nevada are joining forces to step up enforcement this week along more than 600 miles of U.S. Interstate 80 from San Francisco to the Nevada-Utah line.

The Interstate 80 Initiative, scheduled to run from Aug. 27 through Sept. 3, is aimed at reducing distracted and reckless driving through the Labor Day weekend.

It’s in conjunction with several events that attract tens of thousands of people to northern Nevada, including the Burning Man counter-culture festival in the desert 100 miles north of Reno and the Nugget Rib Cook-Off in Sparks.

Motorists should expect to see an increased number of state troopers on the interstate in both California and Nevada.

Flying down on Monday to drive the RV caravan back to Portland, then flying back the following Friday to get the last 3, so thanks for the heads up!

Just heard this this morning on NPR and will be driving from Elko back to Reno in the next few days so will definitely be going a bit slower than normal. Already noticed an uptick in hwy patrol this afternoon around Elko.

I got clipped out there south of lovelock some years back -- course I was doing 93 - blasting Mountain Jam off Eat A Peach

I'll be cruising up that way for a while on Friday evening.

I always drive easy but I'll keep an extra eye on myself, so they won't keep their extra eyes on me.

Thanks for the heads-up.

good looking out.  I *almost* got busted in Elko.  They chased us out of town by sundown, literally.  So pardon me whilst I say F the Elko po-lease.

It also seems like a convenient way to search vehicles.Safe travels all.

Glad the notice is coming in handy for some folks. Legal hassles are never fun.

I'm all for road safety, but this seems simply like a bogus excuse to pull over more people to and from Burning Man.

I bet the Reno area NHP patrol increase is more for whatever rib fest thing people can get drunk at in Sparks.

Drove home this morning and didn't see any police presence from Elko (where NHP is always active) until just west of Reno. Maybe it'll pick up later in the week.
