First show of the epic 5 year run at the Silver Bowl- yikes!   ..has it been THIRTY years?

I recall heading south on I-15 in the girlfriends new Hyundai- a chilly crisp snowcapped spring day in Utah.

Arrived at the Excalibur and proceeded to get into a marital SPAT- can't remember what for - thank god.

Hooked up with a couple of friends from Denver the next day and headed down Tropicana to the show.

Twas windy, which didn't sit well with me and my D-5/ Naks. A great second set that day capped off by a stupendous "Peter".

Many great memories of the next 4 years down there- although 94 & 95 fizzled a bit.  My final GD show was the Sunday show in 95 and it satisfied.

Man those were good times.

Beautiful picture.  Some of my favorite things in the subject matter.

i concur about the picture and the sentiments - all that being said, it was post Brent and i never cottoned to Vince....i saw some shoes but it wasnt like before...

Did Vegas 91-93.   Stayed in town only once (first night of the first run).   The rest of the time, camped on the shore of Lake Mead.   Good times and weird lightning and other weather phenomena

Glad you had fun. I concur with MikePA. I was having more fun thousands of miles and worlds away.

And cool pic!

I thought the second show was a bit better than the first, but share your enthusiasm about that Black Peter! That was something else!

Pretty hot Might As Well to close out the windy first set too.  Great great photo.

I had a lot of fun at the Vegas shows. We skipped 94 and went to Shoreline instead. I think the shows were in mid June in 94.

Speaking of Vegas....

these were good shows.

I did '92 and '95. Quite a party.

First year Vegoose was also in the stadium. A great venue.

I'm gonna give the Santana birdsong a spin

I was there with my future wife, 30 years ago today.

That's pretty much the same view that we had, up high and in the back of the stadium.

Drove from Claremont to the show and back.  Waved to Bill Graham as he drove an ATV around the dusty parking lot.

Wow, how time flies.  Good times

A friend who had the inside info told me at the beginning of '91 that they were going to play Vegas.

I was so psyched, it was like "Fuck yes, the Dead are finally playing Vegas again at the Alladin!!!!"

He goes, "no dude, they are playing at UNLV's football stadium."

Talk about letting the air out of the room.

All my friends had a great time all those years but I was ok with missing those and doing Cal-Expo and Shoreline.

The rest of the time, camped on the shore of Lake Mead<<<

Was actually just there about a week ago camping in my Outback at a free BLM site on the northern part of the lake (Stewart's Point):

It was cool to drive down to the lake itself and have a spot right on the shore.

I went to 3 different years at Vegas in the 90's but too lazy to look up which years; however, I was TOTALLY thinking about it when I was camping the other week.  I camped one year somewhere about an hour and a half north of the city on hwy 93 ... it was quite the haul after the show.   The other two years I stayed at a hotel.

Grateful Dead at the football stadium during the day...

...Radiators, Zero, and Hot Tuna at the Aladdin at night.

It worked out well.

..Radiators, Zero, and Hot Tuna at the Aladdin at night.<<<<<<<<<<

I think that was 95- we did Rads and Tuna also - late night.  Quite burned for the Saturday Dead show the next day.

Much fun. I went to all but one. Always thought the shows should be at night.  Too fucking hot during the day, and we could have done the casinos all night.

Slots O' Fun after party

This was my fave Vegas show from what I attended. The Attics out of Space is sublime.

Did anyone else notice Bob and Same Set Steve doing coordinated Townshend Windmills during Baba O'Riley?

Drove down from Salty Town and met relatives from Phoenix. Damn, this shirt is 30 years old. Weird how it has shrunk just being hung up.

I remember there were people in the parking lot of the relative's hotel, where we were trying to sleep in my pickup shell, who weren't interested in sleep and liked to play drums all night. Hmmmmmm.

Always chuckled about the mis-spelling.

>>>Weird how it has shrunk just being hung up.

I like that explanation better than mine: "I'm not as skinny as I used to be..."

Not EXACTLY sure, but I think this photo I took, later autographed by Bob in SLC, may have been taken there. There or Park West, but I think it was Vegas.

Anybody have any other photos of Bob from that weekend to confirm?

^Yes, he's wearing the same outfit in this fuzzy video from 04/27/1991:

You'll see him in the first few seconds...

Or maybe he wore the same outfit in SLC?

Cool. THANK YOU so much, Johnny.

Fucking Raiders don't Get how the Draft works. Aighhhhhhh!
