Was it something Shappy said? Phil to play Vegas Hard Rock on 5/4

Forums:

... also can't help but wonder if a non-LVBB show has any relevance as to the lineup?

Grateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh will front his ever-changing Phil Lesh & Friends project in Sin City. Phil Lesh & Friends will play The Joint At Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Las Vegas on May 4.

The lineup for Phil’s Vegas show has yet to be revealed. Lesh’s Sin City visits in recent years have taken place at Brooklyn Bowl Las Vegas. The May show will be the bassist’s The Joint At Hard Rock Hotel & Casino debut. Tickets go on sale this Friday, February 22 at 10 a.m. PT via Ticketmaster.

PLF has played the Joint at least 2x before: 2002 and 2005.

Eagerly awaiting the NYT expose on how Phil has been treated by Shappy for the last five years.

I’m glad he has finally escaped!

>> Was it something Shappy said? <<

Maybe it was something Phil didn't do...like sell out the LVBB.

Perhaps, but the The Joint is almost twice the capacity as LVBB.

My point is maybe Shappy fired Phil.

It's certainly possible, but the way I look at it Phil can never be "fired".

More likely he'll fire shabby but a man can dream

fucky can't let go leave politics out of every thread please

If Shappy fired Phil - then why would Phil be doing 3 shows in March at The Cap?

Yeah and why would shappy reserve MSG for Phil’s 80th birthday????

>>>fucky can't let go leave politics out of every thread please

what?

TFB Distress Syndrome.

I suspect this will be a high-profile line-up aka Trey

Why would you think that?

It’s cuatro de Mayo, Santana will be there

I saw the first Phil joint show, lotta Ryan Adams covers.

i'm guessing that won't b the case this time around....

Ryan will be one of the friends.

Could it also be possible that Shappy has been involved in some form of "horse trading"; somehow working his magic behind the scenes of the Vegas concert promotional world?

Will shappy advise the Hard Rock to turn off all water fountains for this show?

I would imagine the Shapster is involved in this.

There's a reason Phil works with him. Yes Shapiro pays big, but much more importantly he does ALL the work while Phil just shows up and plays, and in this world of corporate mega-promoters there isn't anyone else even thinking about doing a thing like that, let alone being willing to put in the time, effort and expense to book & organize little one-off shows with someone like Phil.

It takes a ton of work and upfront expense to do what Shapiro has done with Phil, and while he's put up LOTS of money to get Phil to work with him I'm fairly certain that in the long run it's paid off for Shappy as well.

The guy is a smart promoter in an era where everyone in that business is a 20-something with a marketing degree who have no idea who Phil Lesh is, and who all immediately laughed off the Grateful Dead 50th Anniversary idea as crazy.

That was Shappy's idea, and he ended up taking that crazy all the way to the bank.

With all the talent floating around New Orleans Jazzfest, it irks me Phil chose to play with the TFB there, and waited for Vegas a few days later to do the '& Friends' thing. C'mon, Phil.

I saw the Q at the joint.....get your shit together jambase....geez

Saw Furthur at The Joint too. Pretty good shoe if I recall correctly.

Wasn't the Q at the hard rock?

The Joint is in the Hard Rock Hotel. Saw Dylan there twice, before it went from 1,400 people to who-knows-what.

it went from 1,400 people to who-knows-what<<<

Again, being 2x the size of LVBB, I can't help but wonder if the promoters are expecting this lineup to fill the room?

Still licking my wounds (albeit in a minor way) after having eaten 50% of my costs unloading two SCI Vegas tix for last weekend after bailing ... yet might be wiling to roll the dice on this one ... since can't help but wonder if maybe there's a special lineup?

That Vegoose late night show was a mind blower. Haven't been to the new Joint but would consider this, depending on band.

I suspect that if Phil is willing to work with Shappy, then Shappy has passed the acid test.

Saw  the Allman Bros there in 96 - lousy venue- full of cigar smoking assholes

I suspect that if Phil is willing to work with Shappy, then Shappy has passed the acid test<<<

Did Lenny Hart also pass?

(not suggesting a false equivalence, just questioning "logic" of litmus test)

Was it something Shappy said?>>>>>

Nah, Phil just hasn’t tapped his Vegas hookers in a while.

When does TFB begin its residency in Vegas? I hear Britney Spears just started hers.

>>>>I hear Britney Spears just started hers

you heard wrong she has been there for years

Maybe they can double bill.

I so remember that PLF Vegoose show. Crazy times! Mr. LLOLLO was seeing STS9 at the Hard Rock.... I was at House of Blues seeing Maceo (w/ guest appearance by Prince, who walked right by me after his bodyguards tapped me on the shoulder), then we met up at the Rio for the PLF at around 2am! We also attended a wedding at the Venetian during the day.  What a weekend.

Here's hoping that Phil picks a fresh lineup of friends.

Britney would be pretty cool to check out, for archival purposes only, of course.

yup, Britney, Celine Dion and Phil, LOL.

So back to the important question at hand:   Who the fuck will the Friends be?

(1) GA Seat w/TBastard fees: $66.10

Heady [lsd]Book-maker odds of 'real Friends' vs. TFB?  (I'd fold for TFB)

Less than 3 weeks out and still no lineup?

thank you

Like the turtle

not wild about the rest.   Really / Being honest I'm just not into Jackie anymore and haven't been for years

having him in the lineup turns me off
