It's hard to give the right context for that remark unless you've met her. Janet is one of the most solid, kind, and trustworthy people I've ever met in my life. I'm a fucking dick: people LOVE her. Having this happen has shattered my reality completely. And I'm trying to learn how to be a caregiver for a disabled person on the quick and realizing I have BIG shoes to fill. Believe me: I hope for her safe return more than anyone.<<<

(Just read the last post sounds like she took off. I’d imagine it’s hard to stay out of view these days with the ability to track phones, credit cards and with so many cameras around. Still hope she’s ok)

Sounds like a kind of more complex situation than offered at face, with some twists and turns, but here's hoping everything susses itself out for Janet and for Mike.

FWIW my neighbor went missing for two weeks and it turned out she was in the hospital the whole time, but due to HIPA constraints, the hospital refused to contact authorities even after her immediate family had filed a missing person report. I hope J is ok, after a fashion, too. 

HIPPA laws are serious business.  Normally, you have to put an emergency contact or some such information.  HIPPA does not necessarily prevent loved ones from finding out if a relative has been admitted.

That was what happened with my neighbor, she didn't have anyone on her contact list and even though her family called looking for her they refused to say whether she was there or not. I'm not claiming that's standard protocol, but in that situation, it's what went down.

Anything is possible, Agent 73. Good news is that even though Humbolt county has the highest rate of missing persons, most are found, alive and well. The County is just very good about taking reports of missing persons.

There are so many "missing persons" cases filed in the county they probably don't have time to check out social media postings by those involved. Now if she doesn't turn up soon, that may change.

Thanks for the donations. I updated the page OG (kindly) started to be a little more concise and less emotional. The help is much appreciated but I really want people to focus on finding her. We will survive.

 

I've been in touch with the Deputy (nice Lady) assigned to her case almost daily. I do a lot of research at night after work and I've actually found out some useful info that I've given her. She's also been able to speak directly with some of my wife's friends. I'm going over some financial stuff with her employer tomorrow in the hopes there might be some clues there. I'm fully on board the "just come home and face the music" paradigm for sure. In any case: will keep y'all posted.

Agree that fleeing rarely helps the legal situation, although I get that it must be scary as hell. You have to be REALLY committed to flee far and long enough to make it worth it as long as no one is dead. Not sure if I understood it correctly but if she's confirmed safe I would probably stop helping the cops investigate the crime.  There is a limit to the number of brownie points you can earn for her and it might cause some resentment later no matter what your intentions.
