2026 Outdoor Grow Season

Forums:

Picked up some fresh soil today, and I'm looking at starting some seeds indoors in a couple of weeks. Need to clean out and set up my closet first though.

I'm going to use 15 gallon pots this years instead of 10 gallon, and will likely only do two plants that'll be mainlined for at least 8 main branches, and maybe even 16 to keep them low.

Got Some Seeds Today From A Couple Friends ~ Going To Start 12 and See which ones sprout ~ using happy frog soil ! more updates later.

Good to see you here, Rob.

I got my grow closet set up today, and will drop some seeds on Friday in celebration of the equinox.

Planted three seeds Friday. Have three sprouts coming up today.

Rob asked me to post this pic for him:

Good going, gents.

If I want to try direct seed planting in my backyard, when would I want to plant?

Mark, if I was going to germinate outdoors, I'd wait until the overnight low temps were 50 or above. Also, you should consider the amount of daylight if you're planting photos. Right now, we get just under 13 hours. I put my plants outside around Mother's Day when we're up to about 14 hours of daylight.

Thanks Mike. Still in the 40's here.

From here on out I'm getting my starts/clones from the dispensary. They are cheap and tend to be better quality than the ones my buddy starts for me.I do need to find a new spot this year because my regular one has too many diseases in the soil.

They are even bigger now ~ been doing some topping all super healthy ~ i have a total of 14 ~ thx to mike posting pics ( still need to learn how to transfer phone pics )

Did my second toppings the last few days, and thinking about getting them outside in the next week or so. Picked up some new traps for the ground squirrels. I had been using wooden rat traps, but they didn't always kill them, which meant I had to finish the job, and that's something I just don't want to do this year. The new ones are supposed to be good for moles, mink, and muskrat.

Moles, mink, and muskrat all start with M. Do you think they'll also work for things that start with G or S (ground squirrels)?

M is like two Vs conjoined and inverted, judit. Varmints.

I need to get one of those. Had to shoot 2 last yr.

I got them from Cabela's for about 9 bucks each, Mark.

Thanks Mike. Just ordered a couple.

OK, so, after last fall, instead of winter planting, I took a break instead. No indoor grow of any kind, no Lion's Mane Mushrooms.  All winter I was lazy and recovering from the summer/ fall.  But I am going full speed now( at least my full speed, which at 72, decreases exponentially every yr). Gonna grab 2 plants from my buddy and grow them out back. I have brown cloth 10 gal bags this time.  I also want to plant one seed outdoors and 2 seeds indoors. Have 5 gal bags for indoor.  Just now finished planting 30 some companion plants all over my back yard(3 kinds of marigolds and 2 kinds of basil.  Several canna companions remain from last yr (echinacea, lavender, dill, mint, sage etc.) So, I am ready to plant one seed outdoors and 2 indoors.  Looking for tips, tricks and other advice on direct planting seeds, both indoor and out. Probably planting both tomorrow. Bags are ready. I have both auto and photo seeds.  Planting only photos right now.  Autos will be next experiment.  Question on autos- when they switch over, do you need to decrease lighting time or can you just leave them on 18 hrs per day?  Also, what  happens when you plant autos outdoors?

I am looking at planting a HogsBreath and an Acapulco Gold indoors and an acapulco outdoors. All are photos.

Then back to Lion's Manes. Might have order more spores etc. But will try with what I have leftover from last yr.

I start my seeds in one-gallon planter pots filled with new soil I've soaked and drained. I plant seeds about 1/4 inch deep, cover them lightly with soil, and see sprouts in about 5 days.

My understanding of autos is they start flowering when their genes tell them to, regardless of the amount of light.

I'll add here too that it's probably best to plant autos in the pots you plan to finish them in. The clock is ticking for them, and you don't want to delay development with things like transplanting or topping.
