I'm near Chicago, and have a card. If I've ever gotten anything that was older than 30 days, I don't remember it. In fact, with even fresher products, I've been keeping it in my home-made humidor (A mason jar, a jar that sits inside holding things, and a moist piece of paper cloth. works like a charm.) Most of what I've gotten lately I've felt was crunchy and went straight to powder. Don't care for that.
I just got some Cresco Rocket Fuel with a desiccant pack in it. Alleged to balance the humidity -- not too dry, not too moist. It went straight into the jar, way too dry. No accounting for taste, I guess.
There should never be any sort of humidity control packs in your packaged bud. It's a sign that that it goes out the door way too quickly --- they probably do a high temp dry and package. Most bud has close to or above 20% THC so chances are even with a shit drying process it'll still have dankness.
My go to thought for potency of a smoke -- Water vapor isn't going to get me high so dry that bud out before you roll or pack it.
I'll COVER YOU, most saleable bud will have a moisture content of 12 to 14%. That means you just paid up to 14% of the sale price to smoke water. The drier bud is to your advantage, not the sellers. The growers in IL right now are 3 yrs behind in production when rec hits in Jan. So yes the bud is flying out of the vaults and onto dispensary shelves. The packet you see is a tiny Boveda bag turning the jar into its own humidor.
Since you have a card and Pritzger said we can grow 5 plants at home if you have a medical card, grow your own. Two big trips to the dispensary will cost what you need to get up and running on your own.

Not one bud that you've ever
Not one bud that you've ever smoked has been curing for 6 months. Packed and sealed - sure, cured no.
Fan leaf removal, hang, stem snaps, trim and remove stem, paper bag to even out moisture, glass jars to gather the flavor and cure.

Yeah, but it doesn't taste right or smoke right when it's too dry.

i am still unsure how long
i am still unsure how long proper curing should take
we are doing the thing where you fill the jar 3/4 of the way, and opening it once a day to mix and air out
please and thank you who has a time frame?
read a thing about humidity and ordered a thing you put inside the jar to measure, saying it should be 50%.......

30 days
From what I gather
30 days
Burp jars daily
each day over 30 should improve product
