Jerry Garcia, Robert Hunter Songs to Anchor New NYC Musical

'Red Roses, Green Gold' will also feature contributions from Phil Lesh, Bob Weir, Mickey Hart, Greg Anton

Keyboardist and longtime Grateful Dead touring member Jeff Chimenti serves as the music supervisor and arranger for Red Roses, Green Gold.

RED ROSES, GREEN GOLD brings the music and lyrics of Jerry Garcia and Robert Hunter to the stage. This new musical set in 1920s Maryland tells the fantastical and comical tale of Jackson Jones and his family of swindlers as they gamble their way to love and riches.

Please God, make it stop.

More corpse humping....YAY!

Gangbanging the corpse

I don't like all these "corpse humping" references. Do people say that about Shakespeare's work, or Mozart's? If art has lasting value it can be reworked and interpreted for centuries. Jerry's work, along with Robert Hunter's will be reflected back to society down the eons. I think that kind of terminology is actually  disrespectful to an artist whom, some people may adore, but I suspect some of whom never saw him action themselves. Lighten up, people. It's art, it is meant to be "handed down" and re-interpreted, if it stands the test of time.

That said, I don't know if a Broadway Musical treatment of Grateful Dead music can succeed, I've seen a few attempts come and go, but I, for one, hope the best for this Production, because the actors and Producers are most likely putting their all into it. I hope it's good!  smiley

>>>> Keyboardist and longtime Grateful Dead touring member Jeff Chimenti...

interesting.

Chimenti toured with the GD? News to me.

Most Zoners toured with the Grateful Dead too.

Damn.  Those investors could have helped fund my Richard Thompson musical, The Open Wrist.

It's not the simulated GD show with strings & horns & Rockette dancers, as I understand it

The script has nothing to do with GD. Most likely that a couple of DeadHead film students found a DeadHead producer and found a way to plug the music that they love into a play.

The script has nothing to do with GD.<<

Did you think anyone thought otherwise?

Also, more likely "a couple of DeadHead theatre majors" [. . . ]

Like the GershwinHeads and KernHeads before them.smiley

It may sound corny, but the music from Working Man's Dead & American Beauty lends well to this type of Broadway musical.

Check this out during the day, have a nice dinner, visit the X-Mas tree in Rockefeller Plaza, and Phish/MSG at night.

The show cost less then the poster of the show.

WBAI is offering 5 Pairs of Tix to Red Roses, Green Gold to new or renewing members. They aren't really cheaper cuz we are fundraising this month. But you can break up your payments into 12 month's installments, it's easier on the cash flow...

You can hear details here...

One of my kid's school friends has an internship with the lighting designer for the show. Katie thought I would be very excited to hear about it, and was dissappointed that it wasn't a surprise to me.

“...longtime Grateful Dead touring member Jeff Chimenti...”

As previously noted by surf, I don’t think so.

I hear the segment where the Harvey Weinstein based character chases cast members around the stage during Feel Like A Stranger is high comedy.

>>>They aren't really cheaper cuz we are fundraising this month.

They want the tickets to remain cheap; that's why it's "off Broadway"
