So there is a show with Phil & Family Band at Convention Hall in Asbury Park, Jerseyland next week. 10-26-17 I believe.
I will probably attend, although I'm not in posesssion of a ticket quite yet. I think the show is scheduled for 7 PM or 7:30.
Anyone who wants to meet up for Beer / Snack, how about Bond St. maybe between 4 PM and 6 PM. Or there is the Korean Taco place nearby.

I hope all those going to the show tonight have a real good time.
Now, if I was down in Asbury Park for the show today and wasn't coming down just before the show, I would keep my ears and eyes open. Since the Preservation Jazz Hall Band loves Asbury Park and are good friends with photographer/harpist, Danny Clinch, if I was a betting man I would lay money that during the afternoon they will stop by the Transparent Clinch exhibit (free) at the Asbury Hotel. Since Danny has sat in with Phil Lesh before, you might be surprised as what unfolds. Maybe I should mention that the gallery has a stage and backline and all sorts of musical people have stopped by to play for free many times before, and even if they don't, it's worth checking out Clinch's photos.

I think the lack of activity on the thread is more a product of the much fewer numbers that post here on VivaZone. Some people are more into enjoying the show than posting about it. I'm sure some reports will show up later today and they will go something like this:
Concert goer: I thought the band was playing well and I had a great night out.
Person who did not attend: This band sucks and I can't believe that Phil is touring with waitstaff. All real Deadheads wouldn't be caught dead, or alive, at the soulless money grab.

Yes, I would not mind if the ticket price was a little more reasonable, even if the band is not that great, i know I would still probably have a good time.
But the price to talent ratio for these gigs does not add up for me, even with Phil.
The shows at TXR make more sense, to see Phil play with multiple musicians in a great intimate venue for around $35, sounds a lot more appealing.

Interesting night in AP. I
Interesting night in AP. I started the evening with some Thai Chile wings at Bond St. and a pint of Sierra. Thought about Korean tacos, but I was full after the Wings (Delicious). On to my favorite free parking Zone on Sunset near the Canal, and I couldn't believe my eyes !! Those free spots are now painted w/ numbers or 'permit only' stencils. So I had to go all the way up to Sunset & Grand for a spot.
Stopped in Asbury Hotel (it's right there) and found the Clinch exhibit. All sorts of rock people are on the walls. Go visit if you're able. As Mr. Skif mentioned, there's a stage with a nice collection of vintage & modern Amps. So I thought I'd go find a ticket for the show and walked over to WonderBar. Did not see anyone I knew in there, no luck with extras on the patio, bar was packed. Went over to the Convention Hall block, wooked around for extra tixx, checked out the Box office. While I'm waiting in line the wook in front cleverly stole the event poster from the display on the wall.
Wish I had thought of that ! Another fellow was picking up his will-call so I asked what the selling price was at the Box Office. I noticed he had a photo pass as well; it turned out to be Bob Minkin the photographer. His tixx were Free ! Not much of a Shakedown going on outside Convention Center. A guy vending large wooden carvings (SYF-themed) had his pet Wolf / Malamute dog which looks like mine, marking wise. I forgot to ask him if he feeds Dog Food or has to go with the Wolf diet. Anyway, I did not see too many extras around, so when I found a cheap GA floor, I grabbed it rather than lurk around in the chilly weather any longer.
So next to the venue entrance is 'Anchors Bend' bar / restaurant which is on the Northeast side of the building. I sat there with a couple of ladies and had a Pint of Anchor Steam, and we looked at each other's Dog pictures on our tele-devices. They hadn't been in there since Furthur way back when. People actually were standing in line waiting for the doors to open, in order to get right up on the rail. We sat comfortably and sipped our beverages until it was time.

Musically, I wasn't disappointed, but rather pleasantly surprised, walking in without high expectations.
I think that the PFB / Preservation Hall horn section combo is one of the freshest & most exploratory ensembles Phil's put together in a while. Sound-wise, I was a few rows off the rail near the left speaker array for some of the first set, and moved to a sweet spot between the SBD and stage (under the disco ball). Thought it sounded better there. End of First set they seemed to get sonically dialed-in.
More novel was the after-show jam at the 'Transparent Clinch' gallery a block or two away.
http://www.greatjerseymusic.com/Pages/Stringbean.aspx
This guy Ken Sorensen, who plays a whole bunch in AP and all over, was on his '58 Gretch hollowbody and played great. He had a Drummer and Bassist. Not a big crowd there, but the music was really fine, and the gallery is a comfortable space with designer furniture to relax upon. They had Yeti coolers with various Beer and soft drinks, and plenty of good Spanish Wine. I had a soda, which was sad, but hey, long drive home.
Danny Clinch joined on Harmonica for several tunes, and later the Trumpet player from Pres. Hall. Also that dude Ross James. I stayed until about 2:30 AM enjoying the Music and cushy atmosphere. Branden Lewis is the trumpet guy, and he is the youngest member of PH Jazz Band. Very personable fellow, I got to chat with him a while regarding the current Tour collaboration and their take on being the Horn Section during Weird spacey Jams.

One thing about the Venue;
They don't have a lot of restrooms. One upstairs, one downstairs, resulting in a long line. Went for a pee break beginning of 'West LA' and didn't make it back until mid 'Scarlet Begonias'.
They have plenty of Beer and cocktail stands, so they ought to work on the restroom scene.

I would definitely have liked some more music with Preservation Hall because they were great. I didn’t pay for my ticket, so that may have made it a little easier, but all in all a good time. As far as my opinions about
As far as my opinions about Family Band or their musical performance, I enjoyed it all pretty well. Go out to archive.org and listen to a recording, then form your own opinion. The Horn section adds a nice, unique element to the mix. Like always, it would be nice if they all practiced together a few days before going out on Tour. I really liked the after-show Jam, with a much more intimate and comfortable scene, beautiful People, and Comfy couch. That all added a nice balance to the 'Main Event'.
At points in this sequence: ...Dear Mr Fantasy, St. Stephen->The Eleven->... there were some bizarre, out-there, spacey Jams. The Brass section was on stage and trying hard to add their musical commentary, but it was obvious they were asking themselves "WTF key signature is this supposed to be in; maybe Phil should write up some Charts for us..."
The real nice feature of this show was the ease in getting there. A simple 35 - mile drive each way lacking in the Bad ones like Parkway, Turnpike or GWB. Once you're in Asbury, there are lots of spots for Food, Beer, or other Music. Also it's a Dog-Friendly town to the extreme, although he probably would not like sitting for three hours in Convention Hall. But the venue is right there on the Beach, and it's a weird old structure with all sorts of architectural detail to stare at. The actual CH 'theatre' is visually ugly; they didn't spend a lot of time dressing it up. 'Paramount Theatre' in same building is smaller, prettier.
Also, a Kool thing is that I never drove over there thinking that I'd meet Ross James, Bob Minkin, Branden Lewis, and Danny Clinch in some art & furniture Gallery. Oh, and I saw the Rainbow too

Glad to hear that those who went had a good time with some good music.
DS ~ The Transparent Clinch gallery is a great place to see music and hang. I admit that I've seen the sun come up with some of those late night jams. One of the things that makes those sessions so fun is that you can sometimes end up seeing great local talent and all of a sudden you look up and have Gary Clark Jr or Eddie Vedder decide to play for a few hours. I also agree that the couches are comfy.
