I looked at all the photos of the cabin (not the April 1 cabin) and it struck me that the people had to have been in there very recently before the authorities 'discovered' the place. They probably heard the 'Man' coming and hid in the stealth spot nearby.
The reason I say that is because if you leave a little cabin like that for a week or two (maybe less) the rodents get in and fuck around with stuff. They will knock jars off the shelf and gnaw on the bottlecaps of soy sauce bottles.
The kitchen area photos show a nice tidy place. No mouse droppings or chewed-up stuff.
Yeah, it does look too tidy for it not to have been inhabited recently.
There used to all kinds of "done up" shacks in the forests around Telluride and people who lived in them were referred to as "woodsies" ... were probably at least 200+ living in the woods in the 80's and early 90's.
Some of them were built from scratch and others were squatting in some old mining era structures. There's an old mining era shack not too far from where I live where a Vietnam vet used to live with his dog (Arrow) for at least 6 or 7 years and others before him, and he somehow managed to sign a lease with the town of Ophir (which owns the property) for some rediculously cheap amount ... like $25/month. It's pretty secluded in a Deliverance sort of way, but is quickly accessible by a jeep road.
Here's a pic of an outhouse of a shack not too far away from the one I mentioned above.
I lived in remote Lobster Valley, OR briefly around 2000 - 2001. It was an off-grid house with diesel generator and battery banks for AC electricity, propane for Stove & Fridge and water - heater. Actually pretty cozy, but a bit remote. The driveway from main road was about a mile long.
Anyway, on the 37-acre property was an abandoned, roofless log cabin. In there I found a few rusty hand tools, double-bit axe, chisels, like that. I cleaned them up and still have those. Wish I'd had a metal detector !! There were likely all sorts of hatchets, axes, chisels underneath the leafy debris.
Still lots of metal that can be found with just the naked eye around me, there's actually a superfund cleanup going on in the neighborhood. The earth will swallow said "objects", but some might give her indigestion.

Mama won't have any trouble
Mama won't have any trouble with metal or wood, but that plastic gives her a tummy-ache.
