Concert Posters

Forums:

I was just regrouping (taking photographs) and inspecting some old concert posters stashed away; that I may re-hang.

If anyone wants for some reason the full digital image of any of these posters, just let me know.

The first one is of the Jerry Garcia Band at C.W. Post College 12/6/1977. I didn't go to the show. I bought from a record store in Massapequa's wall in 1983 or so.

This one I bought from Alton Kelly the poster's artist Alton Kelly at kick-ass Dinosaurs show at the Cotati Cabaret 2/18/1983

Took this off a wall at MSG while waiting in line for ticket a wrist band for the MSG 10/11 & 10/12/83 shows.

Grateful Dead MSG Poster 10111983.jpg

Here is one that I like. It was the last night of the tour and it was signed by the band at intermission. $10

It was a small crowd to start with and by the time they finished playing at 1:50am there was only 12 of us there. Fuck Florida's music scene.IMG_1880_1.JPG

Great poster. The artist looks whoever did Trout Mask Replica for Captain Beefhart

Wrong phone # for West Coast info on that Garden poster....

MSG was always reserved floor, correct? What tickets did you end up with Bluelight?

I've also started try to get things together with my rather large poster collection.

Just framed a Garcia-Saunders poster from the Armadillo in '74. It looks good.

One down, many more to go!

The last tier, the worst seats I ever at MSG. So we went down mid-level and were in a corridor standing when the Dead went into St. Stephen 10/11

I tossed a very expensive Stetson hat in the air, like a Frisbee.  Lost it...

Yes back from '79-83 for sure

another Wolfgang's score....

I actually had this original handed to me the week before these shows- at the coat room at Fillmore West.

Lost it over the years- my first Zeppelin shows.

I just saw these two big ones cruising down Main St...

Back then, they were selling OG posters such as these.

I scored a Cool Alton Kelley Dinosaurs poster too yes

Is that your work above Canyon? Sure does look like it.

RRG - that one above is from the infamous Live Dead sessions at FW ...Feb 69

That's a winner right there. Does a recording exist?

^^^Ron Tutt was not on this tour, Buzzy Buchanan on drums^^^

Good eye, Bart. Sure looks like Canyon's work. I like it!

I really enjoy posters and this thread.

^Thanks Klondike..I never put that Together before !!! yes

That's a winner right there. Does a recording exist?          YES      I have a smoking tape from Jerry Moore some where in my collection

We scored these when My Husband and were newly dating (so we have two) heart

Dinosaurs - Good band, wish they'd toured the east coast

NRPS - Didn't think much of them when I saw them for the 1st time in 1978, but Dave Torbert had already passed by then.

So was not including the Year always "A Thing" with concert poster artists?

These are great!  Go get some mylar and boards. Or frame in UV protection. No tape or tacks. Some of these would fetch a pretty sum. Of course no money is worth the memory! I have collected a few over the years. True art. I did not know Canyon was an artist. Thats cool! RRG- those 2 Relix posters are worth a few hundred a piece. Nice stuff yall

Recently met a neighbor who has the largest and most incredibly stored poster collection I've ever seen. HE had some duplicates that he donated to a fire victim. His pride collection is the beautifully framed Jazz Fest posters, ever single one of them. he did say he was probably going to sell them soon (as a collection) or maybe display them in a gallery since he was running out space to store them all.

My friend assembled a near complete collection of original Boston Tea Party concert posters. They were particularly rare, uncommon compared to the SF Fillmore concert posters from the same era. He sold the entire collection to one single collector, turned down several offers to donate it to the RnR HOF and another NFP museum in Boston. At the end of the day, the sale funded the land buy and build of his home. Not a bad ROI.

I like posters, even have a few myself. Just picked this up; m_bar003_0.jpg

Yes, on 11/11/11 @ 11:11 they played the Eleven.

However there should have been a morning show to actually play during the Eleventh hour.

This has bothered me for years and I think about it daily.

Well done.

"Dinosaurs - Good band, wish they'd toured the east coast"

They did play at The Saint (the old Fillmore East) on 1/15/88.  That was the night I really fell in love with John Cippolina.

Wow. I haven't seen that Palm Ballroom one since, well 2011... Didn't think that one was printed, damn what a good time we had way back in the olden days...Yup Bart, the Theater reached out to us, so Lisa & I did a collaboration  for old times sake...keep the art coming all, it really makes these short days easier...btw RRGs  GD poster up there is one if my all time favs, I had a chance to buy one a few years back but just couldn't let myself peel off $500 for it, so much awesome...

I have the playbills for this Dinosaurs Saint show. They played a few shows there, all produced by Relix. Wavy Gravy was usually there.

Really nice posters folks! You are a real artist Canyon, catering to our tastes!

I seem to remember that Hunter wasn't in the band by that point, and he, like Col Bruce in ARU, was the X Factor that Made the band.

Hey Bluelight, Wanna sell that C.W. Post poster? Email me at [email protected]

It's the artist original (I assume it was banged out of an art class at CW Post) done in black magic marker and one hot-pink silk screen. I am guessing about 5-6 copies were made. One of which I saw on the internet and it's in black & white. It's precious & very delicate. Sorry it's not for sale. Your request is a very nice compliment slipknut.

I had no idea it was that rare.

Lookin' at a Palomino Station original poster on Ebay. Looks fake but it's real, printed by the well known Colby Poster Printing Company in Los Angeles.http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/272958720540?ul_noapp=true

Real. I had that one a few years ago.
