If you're going from Targhee
If you're going from Targhee to Utah (or vice versa), I'd recommend the drive down 26 and 34 through Wyoming and southern Idaho that takes you past Palisades Reservoir and through the towns of Freedom and Soda Spings and past Lava Hot Springs.
It comes out at I-15 150 miles north of Salt Lake. Some of the prettiest danged country. Only adds about 20 minutes on to the drive vs. the interstate and Idaho Falls.

I used to go that route when I lived up there. Good drive. How is camping scene at that fest?

Camping is good. Used to be included in the festival admission and the vehicle was $20. Now it's $40 to camp and $30 if you want to bring in a vehicle. $70 and $40 for a couple with a car.
They do run a shuttle every 20-30 minutes from the bottom of this hill to the fest.
Giant fields to camp in. Above is the view looking toward the resort. Long walk to the stage if you camp out this far. Dense tree camping to the left and around the corner but closer. Tough call, sun or shade. That mountain weather is always tricky. Last year was the best weather yet, but plan for an afternoon shower. The one year we did a room it rained much of the weekend. Cold too, at 8000 feet.
Plenty of pickin' and grinnin' to be had in the campgrounds. Bring the earplugs if you want to sleep.
Looking the other way in pic below. That's my set up a couple of years ago.
The top pic is Monday AM after everyone is leaving. Pic below is during the fest. They're packing more and more people in there but it's usually pretty friendly.
This was back in 2008 before it got huge. They open that whole back field now.
The trees in background of the pic above are the trees way out in the middle of the pic below.
