I still have a yogurt in the fridge from a hotel I stayed at on Saturday night. Are you supposed to consume food at either hotel "restaurant" or in one's room? What's the limit?
I think it is okay to take a bottle of water, or take some muffins or something to your room. But don’t stock up for the week off one night at a cheap motel.
A handfull of years ago we were staying at a Holiday Inn in Daytona and I was eating my egg sandwich and there was a full room with a very large 3 family eating breakfast and having a good ole time.
The manager came over with the breakfast lady and asked for their room number and or key. 2 men got up and wandered off. The other adults were hemmin and hawing around and grabbing jackets and purses. It was taking a lil wile and all of a sudden big mamma screams "LETS GO" and 5 or 6 adults and about 10-12 kids get up and run out the front door and load up in 2 vans and race off.

The company I work for will occasionally put us up in a nearby hotel (Spring Hill Suites by Marriott) during inclement weather because they need us at work even if the most of the building is closed. The last time I stayed there, as I was checking out the lady at the front desk told me about the breakfast buffet. When I told her I didn't have time, she got me a plastic container & told me to help myself to whatever I could fit in it. I thought it was nice & figured it's because of the business my company sends their way.
Then I always stop at a restaurant for a full breakfast when I'm on the road.
The hotel crap nevers fills me up<<<<<
Might as well make a waffle if you're going to eat a muffin ... at least it'd be "fresh".
But I agree with you, Carb Central Station doesn't have much staying power. I had grabbed the yogurt to hold me over in the car, but made it to Idaho Springs without eating it and ate a breakfast wrap at the Two Brother's Deli by 10:45 ... which held me over through snowboarding at A-Basin from about noon - 2pm.
Some hotels offer a "grab and go" breakfast if you ask. They usually have yogurt, granola bar, fruit, juice or water, all brown bagged to go for guests.
Touring with P-Funk in Europe we;d have breakfast at the hotel. Hotels in Europe do it up right. Eggs, fresh omlettes, waffles, muffins, buns, breads, bacon, sausage, mushrooms, tomatoes, porridge, an assortment of coldcuts.
We'd eat breakfast, take a couple sandwiches for lunch and get on the bus to the next city or to the airport if it was a fly date. Then the venue would feed us dinner. Only food have to be bought would be after show food and off day dinners.
Sometimes the venue would have a nice spread for the cre and I traveled with the crew.
FOM, I think that the hotel management does not want their rooms messed up with food. It happened a couple of times during my recent trip to the South. Honestly, I think those were in the trashier places that we stayed in.
I have always brought food back to the room, and yes occasionally the yogurts don't get eaten, but for the most part they do. Bread and jam for sandwiches as well. I am thrifty what can I say.
At Phish in 2012 in Worcester after the show the mrs and I found a leftover Ice cream sunday bar from a HS graduation party that had been in one of the convention center rooms in the hotel we were staying at. We took the whipped cream, chocolate sauce, and cherries back upstairs and made an awesome mess on the bed (ice cream was melted already so we left that behind). About a month later I had a $500 smoking charge in addition to the room charge on my cc. Called up the manager, threatened small claims court, and had the charges rescinded within the hour. True story.

You'd think they'd have more to worry about than food re: what people "leave" in the rooms.
Now That I Think About It ________It's STUPID Eat There at the Hotel and Be On Your Way. JFC !<<<<
I wouldn't make a waffle and take it on the road, nor any "breakfast product" that's been heated up (except maybe oatmeal in a mug).
But what about these, are you saying it's not ok to take one or more of: yogurt, fruit, small boxes of cereal, pastries, etc.?
The New Riders played New Years' Eve a few years in a row at "The Silo" in Reading Pa. Everyone stayed at the Holiday Inn Express nearby. There was late-night after-show music and keg-party there. The overnight manager was a swell fellow and let everyone party to their hearts' content.
Anyway, about 5 AM his last job was to prepare the Complimentary Breakfast foods. The poor guy had eaten a dosed cupcake, and it took every bit of remaining focus to complete the Breakfast tasks correctly. Of course, having done that job hundreds of times helped a lot.
