Obama faces blowback on UN-Israel vote
President Obama’s fumbling of a crucial anti-settlement resolution making its way through the United Nations shows how his administration is “sticking” it to Israel as his his days at the White House come to an end, critics charged Friday.
“Obama is sticking it to the Jewish state of Israel’ if the US. abstains or supports the resolution,” Morton Klein, president of the Zionists Organization of America, the country’s oldest pro-Israel organization, told the Post on Friday.
The UN Security is poised to vote Friday afternoon on a resolution, first introduced by Egypt, that would condemn Israel “settlement building” in East Jerusalem and the occupied West Bank as a “flagrant violation under international law.”
Sen. Charles Schumer said he is urging the White House to veto the resolution.
“Whatever one’s views are on settlements, anyone who cares about the future of Israel and peace in the region knows that the UN, with its one-sidedness, is exactly the wrong forum to bring about peace,” the New York Democrat said in a statement.
