panhandle pandemonium

Forums:

Holy cow, this one came on quickly.

Forcasted to be a category 3 or 4 when it makes landfall.

Be careful folks.

Supposed to be a cat 3-4 up in  Panama City & nearby,  but spreading to Georgia pretty soon...

Time to head for Tennessee.

Crazy.  Turned into a Cat 4 lickity split and will be hitting shore in a few hours.  Most powerful storm to hit the Panhandle in 100 years!

Silly me, I thought you meant this Panhandle:

Sustained winds now at 150 mph - just 7 mph short of Cat 5.    Panama City, Port St. Joe,  Apalachicola - all looking at being seriously fucked in the next few hours.

>Panama City, Port St. Joe,  Apalachicola

And every trailer park on that coast.  Cause we all know god hates trailer parks.

Remembering the storm that hit Galveston, Texas, September 8, 1900, the deadliest natural disaster in United States history.

Landfall is happening now at 919 mb making it the third strongest hurricane to hit USA on record.

Where's Noodler?

Watching CNN just now and all I can think is that one of these days one of those out-in-the-storm reporters is going to get  decapitated and we will all look back at how stupid that was like we look back on driving with out seatbelts.

Watchin news now...wow...

Wind gusts up to 155.....157 makes it a catagory 5, but, as one reporter said..."does it really make a differance at this point?".....

Just making landfall now....gonna be some horrific damage...prayers and thoughts to all in area, or with loved ones in path etc

Any sharknados?

Java Dave once again demonstrating his social challenges by cracking corny jokes in the midst of a genuine tragedy.

Take a lap, dude. My god.

Gawd is spelled with a cap G followed by awd. And I'm not talking all wheel drive...this is messiah territory.

Did you see the one reporter in the batter's helmet?   Who I am really worried about are those self styled "storm chasers" driving around and uploading video to Twitter.  Damn.

Man was James Brown blown up in that pic

Some early pics coming in, my sis lives in Defuniak Springs, Florida...just NW of Panama City and Mexico Beach :(.  Some folks down there in the rural country areas live in very old and poorly built homes, a lot of poverty and they have zero resources avail, most did not leave their homes....very sad !

Haven't heard anything yet, but praying they are ok !

The joke is really on you if you are heartless enough to make "light" of another ones tragedies ....just shows your true character is all !!!!

stay safe all.

^Scary stuff!  I just read that those who didn't evacuate by a certain time were basically stuck.

(((thoughts and prayers))))

It's over?

^the storm doesn't last long, but the recovery/rebuilding takes some time.

Not yet, the eye has passed over landfall and heading NE ...moving fast at least !

Still a Cat 3 heading into Georgia per weather cast....wow !!

Now assessment of the damage and recovery  operations...#'s will come in soon :(.

Lighten up, St. Francis.  Of course I am wishing for safety from all in harm's way.  The two tunes about storms I posted above had already been an expression of my empathy for those facing the storm.   Just interjecting a little light in the darkness.

Some of those pictures of Mexico Beach in total ruin are nuts.  Doesn't look good and I don't know how people could have survived if they didn't evacuate and tried to ride it out in those now smashed and submerged buildings.  That area of "Floribama" is very rural and backwoods and it will probably take sometime to assess the damage and get to everyone in need.

Also nuts that this went from a tropical depression to almost a Cat 5 in less than 48 hours.   Doesn't give much time to prepare.

damn...

Thang's a pretty badass Slammer.  Thoughts & {{Prayers}} for everyone's Safety and Well-Being.

I support Dave. Black humor is valid as long as it's not cruel. I chuckled. A sharknado is at least theoretically possible in this situation. Doods, black humor is the way here and in Australia too, and elsewhere. Why would anyone assume that Dave was being intentionally cruel?

No one did, I'm sure. We have knees a'jerkin here. I'm looking at you, St. Mark.

And wow!!! Best wishes to all involved.

They were showing a freight train toppled over on the weather channel.  That's forceful wind.

Floops, what about me? It was black humor too

You too, Fabes. Below the radar.
