One Small Step...

Forums:

50 years ago, I was 16 still living in Brooklyn. My mind says it was a Sunday and raining in NY, but ... Have we as a country ever done anything more important ? NASA needs to be refunded as we as a people sure ain't doing anything to save this place.I'll be dead before Miami sinks into the ocean but what about my kid?

A great achievement. Frankly, IMHO, I think it ought to be a national holiday. I'm flying my flag today - right side up even.

Watching the shows on PBS this week made me wish for a time like that again, when this country inspired pride in humanity around the world and what we did unified the world for a spell.

We're so far from that now, and may never see worldwide respect and a moment of unity like that again.

Country Joe hit the stage that night at Fillmore West --- along with Joe Cockeuer!!

Both trotted off to Woodstock and couple weeks later

^^ (I love David Singer's posters and much of his other art, too)

I was 20 in July 1969, living in the Arcata Hotel with my first husband. It was quite grungy and I worked there as a maid to pay our rent. Yuck.

He was way into space exploration (inner and outer) and absolutely needed to see the broadcast so we walked up G St. a few blocks to a coffee shop that had a TV. The coffee wasn't very good but the moon landing and walk was totally thrilling to him. I wondered, how can this be real, and with such a poor picture, too. I guess it was.

We had just moved back from Hong Kong, and my dad had gotten an engineering job at JPL in Pasadena, fond memories!

If you've got a telescope, here's how to find the different landing sites on the moon!
