So, Trumps choice for Interior seems to respect the concept of public lands, but the rest of his party doesn't. It has begun, rules that allow them to transfer lands to states without having to consider this any loss to the federal government.
Congress moves one step closer to selling your National Parks and other public lands.

Thanks for posting this Alias
Thanks for posting this, Alias.
That's Utah's Congressman Rob Bishop in action. He's the Chair of the House Natural Resources Committee. Wrong man in the wrong place.
Especially when he thinks our public lands are worth NOTHING.
93% of his campaign funding comes from out of state. Mostly oil and gas companies.
66% of Utah is land administered by the federal gov'mt.

If you have a minute, will you please email Senator mike lee, and tell him to suck it!
Senator Mike Lee <[email protected]>To
When I questioned Interior Secretary Sally Jewel at her confirmation hearing, she promised me President Obama would not designate a national monument unless there was widespread support from the local population.
Unfortunately President Obama ignored that promise and designated a monument in San Juan County yesterday.
But this is no time despair. This is a time to double our efforts and make San Juan County Great Again.
I pledge to you today that I will do everything I can to work with Congress and the incoming Trump administration to undo this monument designation.
But I am not going to stop there. I am then going to do what I can to repeal the Antiquities Act so that future President Obamas can not do this to rural communities ever again.
But I am not going to stop there. I am then going to continue our fight to return power back to the American people. Everyone suffers when we allow power to accumulate in the hands of the few.
This is not the end. This is just the beginning. We will fight this battle together, and we will win.

I think, too, that we've got
I think, too, that we've got to recognize that where the preservation of a natural resource like the redwoods is concerned, that there is a common sense limit. I mean, if you've looked at a hundred thousand acres or so of trees — you know, a tree is a tree, how many more do you need to look at?

Doesn't matter if you can
Doesn't matter if you can look at them or not - all natural "resources" are essential parts of the ecosystem. An ecosystem that is under increasing assault as our numbers grow, our standard of living grows, and the number of boneheads we put in charge grows.
If you didn't plant it, don't cut it!

He couldn't even grow hair.
So, sounds like Sen. Lee will allow some more NWRs to get "re-taken" by real Americans...like me.
I just might have to pick one out.

I took over a local duck pond last January to make fun of the Malheur patriot actors
News guy asked me how long we'd be occupying the duck pond.
I replied, "Oh about another half-hour. I've got to get back to the football game."

Well, we have another story
Well, we have another story on public lands in Utah today.
I thanked Alias for posting originally, because frankly, there ain't a day that goes by when some stupid shit ISN'T happening on the public lands/environmental front here in Utah.
And since we're 66% public lands in Utah, it's a big deal. And since these lands are owned by ALL OF US, I will often post stuff here. But I know it gets old and many on this board couldn't give a shit.
Understood, so I post less frequently on these issues. But this new one is a great example of what will happen if our nation's public lands are sold to the highest bidders.
Check out the story. http://www.sltrib.com/news/4784759-155/new-private-owners-block-road-to
If you seem to recognize the name Lyman in the story, it's because San Juan County Commissioner Philip Lyman is the purchaser of the property that is now locking the public out. He's the guy that led an illegal ATV ride through Recapture Canyon a few years back with the Bundy clan. So people are asking local law enforcement to stand up against a local county commissioner with little regard for the rule of law.
Regarding these people in San Juan County who are demanding control - Utah has about 3 million people, less than 1% of the country's population. San Juan County is home to about 15,000 of those. So 15,000 people should make the call for the 330 million who own this land? And many of those 15,000 are FOR the monument.
Oh yeah - It was federal land all along, so there's no land grab. Just a change in designation. A "zoning" change if you will.

I am with you, Slickrock. The
I am with you, Slickrock. The UT delegation in particular and their backwards viewpoints and antics are about to go more so National, obviously in a bad way....and putting Mike Lee on the Supreme Court would be a grand mistake at best. US House Rep Rob Bishop's latest effort to assume land values to 'zero' before transferring said lands to private ownership is a pretty good example of his overall goals too. What a douche - despite some of the super creative redistricting efforts buy GOP over the last several years, it is still pretty amazing that these complete knuckle-dragging idiots keep on getting re-elected....but it is clear that some/apparently enough of the local voter population is glazed over by their overzealous spoon-fed religious affiliations and "R'" (GOP) fixations.
Everyone should care and at least be somewhat informed on the public lands debate and try to understand the evolving and degrading political landscape surrounding it.
