In a nutshell - we created the situation that exists now. No, we don't belong there. Post 9/11 we should have rooted out the Taliban/Al Qaida camps, as we did, and then turned it over to the most bad-ass anti-Al Qaida warlord we could find, and pay him handsomely to keep the lid on.
But we didn't. Notice what happened when we bugged out of Syria suddenly and without a plan. If we put our mind to it we could prob. get out in a year, minimizing the damage to the civilian population.
